Offsite condo rentals

HI everyone. I used to post on this board YEARS ago when we used to take a wdw trip yearly. Well, it has been 9 years since I have visited wdw and I am planning a trip this year thanksgiving week (and my b-day) and I need some info from you all. First of all, I have always stayed on property. This time, though, I am planning to rent a condo and save some money. I know the benefits of staying in the world and I am a little anxious about staying somewhere else. Anyone have any suggestions for a nice, close place to rent for a week? I want to be close to wdw and do not really care for a hotel room. There will be 2 adults and 1 13 yo (possibly an 18 yo as well).

Just wanted to tell you to not be nervous. A lot of people have good experiences staying offsite. The past 2 summers, we have used my aunt's timeshare membership to get a getaway week. We stayed at Cypress Pointe Grandevillas. We were very satisfied. We got a 2 bedroom for well under $100 a night. The space with small kids made it worth staying off property. We were right under a mile from the gate. My youngest son cried last year and asked if we could just live in the condo. Just do your homework and have a good time.

Thanksgiving will be a little tricky to get a good price, but if you start your homework now, you should be able to find something. You might consider renting from an owner---either a whole-ownership condo (as you might find at Windsor Hills) or one of the closer timeshare resorts, like Wyndham Bonnet Creek. You could also get a pretty good deal by renting from a Disney Vacation Club owner---it would be more than these other options, but would let you stay onsite for a fair price.

Check out www.thebigcondolist.com for rentals of condos and townhomes direct from owners. It is a small site and owners have to verify their ownership (by way of utility bill etc) in order to advertise on it.

Windsor Hills. You will find a lot of DIS'ers have stayed here. They have condos and townhouses with good rates. Can't beat spreading out in a townhouse for $100/night. Convenient to the parks with a nice community pool.
