I am about to send off my deposit and contract tomorrow. After reading bad reviews I'm worried. Is Rev. Tim really that bad?

When I asked him about the unity candle he said it was a religious symbol, yes the email had a very quick one word answers, and he never really answered if we could use it in a civil ceremony.

Do you think I should see if anyone else is available before I send him the deposit?

Personally, DH and I had no issues with Rev. Tim. We met with him at our planning session, and while he is not the most warm and fuzzy man around, he got what we wanted for our ceremony so we went ahead with him. DH dealt with him the most, so I can't really comment on his communication. He did give us a lovely ceremony in the end though.

However, after some of the comments I have heard on this board recently, I would probably think twice about hiring him. Especially if you think you are going to want a lot of communcation with him before the ceremony, or if you are going to want to write your own ceremony. Neither of those things were of great concern to me before our wedding (as we met Rev. Tim in person and DH made it known from the beginning there was no way he was writing his own vows/ceremony) I wouldn't have changed a thing. But it may be in your best interest to at least speak to another officiant or two, and see if you click better with them.

As far as the unity candle, we had a civil ceremony and used it.

I didn't post on the other thread but we met with Rev Tim - we found him to be really nice, we had, prior to meeting him, seen him perform various ceremonies from our room at the YC and we thought he was lovely and I've since enjoyed seeing him perform ceremonies on other bride's videos.

However once we did meet with him, I went away with a niggling feeling and personally Paul just said that it was me really wanting to feel that it was all about me and well Rev Tim never asked any questions about us of "who we were" we sat in that lobby talking to him for 45 minutes and to be honest I came away feeling weird, it wasn't until I then contacted Rev Jack to see if he possibly was free that I realised that I, personally, needed more attention and I got that from Rev Jack so I then cancelled Rev Tim - but it wasn't anything to do with his ability at performing ceremonies, because most of them that I had seen had reduced me to tears.

My one issue with Rev. Jack was that I'd seen him kneel at lots of brides' feet after seeing them in all their finery and the first time I saw it, it looked lovely but then when I saw him do it to every other bride it started to annoy me LOL, again this was my personal view - I know it's a lovely touch and he is very sincere and genuine but knowing that he had done it hundreds of times before just made me uncomfortable so my WP had a quiet word with him and sorted it for me.

Sory off track there - if you really like Rev Tim and you would have had him anyway then I would say please do not let others comments and feedback put you off - go with your gut :)

I have been battling back and forth about this decision....my wedding is in 11 days! I actually didn't even consider anyone else but him in the beginning. I found him through these boards a few years back when my sister was getting married in Florida. She was getting married at Leu Gardens and used him.

We thought the ceremony was beautiful, and really liked him. Afterwards my sister said (I forgot this til she recently reminded me) it was great but he didn't do everything she wanted.

So Fast forward I am getting married (again, lol) and I contacted him, he was available and I booked him. Then I start reading the bad reviews--which seem to be worse lately--and the doubts started.

We have decided to stay with my original choice. I think from what I am reading it is a control issue--he likes to have it and doesn't seem to do well with taking direction. We are perfectly happy with him taking control...we haven't written our own ceremony, don't want to write our own vows and I am taking DF's name. The only thing we must have is after the exchanging of the rings DF will present DS with a pocket watch and say something to him. I have emailed Rev Tim with this and DF will tell him again right before the ceremony starts....hopefully he will remember just this one thing!

I'm really not sure what to do now. I have contacted Rev. K Knox and he has sent me a nice e-mail with an information document attached and answered all my questions. He does cost a little more but not much. I will have to ask Darren his opinion tonight.

We originally had Rev Jack, but on the day he couldn't perform the service and Rev Tim stood in. He was such a nice guy, and our ceremony was beautiful. We had a simple ceremony, he added some native indian poetry which added such a nice touch. Go with your gut feel, but our ceremony was wonderful and Rev Tim was a really nice guy.

We just returned from our DFTW and Honeymoon. We used Rev. Tim and were very pleased with him. He made everyone feel at ease and included the sand ceremony wording just as I had emailed it to him. He did wish to keep the actual ceremony a "secret" and wouldn't send it to me, but I was okay with that. He included everything I asked for and was very open and pleasant to everyone there. DH felt like he left rather quickly afterwards, but I thought it was his way of 'getting out of our way' when all was said and done...not to mention it is AUGUST in FL and very warm (we got married at the YC Gazebo) and he is still recovering from his hospital spell, I am sure.

Anyway...I was very pleased with the ceremony. Right now, it is a blur, but I listened very closely at the time for the things I wanted after reading mixed reviews on here, and I have no complaints.
