While I wasn't completely pleased with the discussion at tonight's VP debate on the issue of Gay Marriage, I was so impressed with Joe Biden that I have to jump off the fence and run straight to the Obama camp.

I had been on the fence and jumped down off the fence onto the Obama side when Palin was announced as the VP pick for McCain, but tonight's debate was the clincher for me. I watched the presidental debate a couple of weeks ago and liked what I heard from Obama, but I was waiting for tonight's debate to give myself a bit more of a chance to see if Palin could wow me back to my usual stand on the republican side of the fence.

I wasn't wow'ed at all by Palin, but Biden really made me feel much more certain that Obama was the man for the job the next 4 years. I realize that no matter who takes office, they are going to be handed a big ole crapburger with the economy being in the dumpster and the war lagging on. I feel a bit sorry for whoever takes on the challenges of the job, but I think that Obama has more of a clue than McCain. I like what I am hearing and I think that it's going to take a "fresher" politician to reign it all in.

So, consider me off the fence and soundly in the Obama camp. Who's with me?

I agree the gay marriage question was really a kicker. I mean, everyone is already well aware of Palin's feelings on gay people, and not wanting gay marriage, civl unions, or any other law that recognizes any same sex couple rights. But when directly questioned like that, at least have the fortitude to admit and "own" her position instead of sidestepping it to the best of her ability with cliches like "some of my best friends" crap. :sad2:

I was quite happy with Biden's answer, even if he doesn't want to call it "marriage."

Palin did do better than I expected, but she should do well in interviews and debates, her degree is in communication and journalism.

I am still securely up on that fence. I don't know when or if I will ever come down:rotfl:

OK just catching up on the debate, I am watching it late, and the subject just came up!

I will admit I have been "off the fence" for quite some time.

And I also know that if a candidate come out in favor of gay marriage it would be the kiss of death! One step at a time, even if it is baby steps...

But when I hear the words "tolerance" and "choice" come out of Palins mouth, it makes me sick!

When did we choose this lifestyle? :confused3

The only thing I have chosen is to accept who I am!

And thank you for "tolerating" me, but it's all good, I don't need your tolerance! This woman.....

Well never mind! :sad2:

I was thinking the same thing when she kept saying tolerate, it was really making my skin crawl. and also when she talked about choice, all I could think of is how she would love to take choice away from women

But it's all good! She thinks we should be allowed to get into "contracts" to guarantee the right to see our loved ones in the hospital and all. You know, those lovely contracts where your lawyer makes a ton of money drawing them up!

No cheap shotgun weddings for us! :rotfl2:

Sorry, but the irony of it all is just a little too much!

You just based your choice for President on a typically inconsequential VP candidate? Scary.

Typical doesn't factor into this election. On one side we have a charismatic leader with very little experience, but a very experienced VP to help him out. On the other we have a very experienced leader, but with multiple health issues (not to mention he is the oldest presidential candidate ever), and with a very inexperienced VP (who could easily become Pres. if McCain's health turns).

In this election, the VP matters more than it ever has, even if the position its self doesn't actually require much normally.

The way she kept repeating "tolerate" made my blood boil. And could she have used the term "mavericks" any more often?

We have "early voting", so that tops my to do list for next week.

But ... But... McCain & Palin are mavericks!
Mavericks!I tell you!
That should be enough for you.::yes::

Mavericks! :lmao:

Since I feel more comfortable here posting my political opinion than being ripped apart on the CB......what did I think about the debate. I thought she was nervous, a little too high volume for me, lots of energy but seemed inappropriate energy. I am not fond of Biden, never have been, looking at him last night, I thought I would love the name of his plastic surgeon......he looked great. No flames, I notice those things and would also love the name of Nancy Pelosi's surgeon as well. You know the old Mr. DeMille, I am ready for my close-up is one of my fave lines.

Anyway, I thought Biden handled himself well, respectful calling her governor.. I thought he was strong in his answers, although a couple of times he blatantly said she was speaking untruths.... He looked good, nothing out of place, perfect teeth, lots of good smiling. I was waiting for one of his faux-pas' but I did not notice any....but then of course I missed the last minutes because I fell asleep. Darn I hate when that happens..

I do not know what the answers are.. I will not vote for President based on the VP's, I am watching and listening.. Right now I am leaning towards the side of less spending... and from what I can see it is the McCain side. I do not want more war, but I also lived through the pullout in Vietnam and in my lifetime, I do not want to see that again. I cannot stand that they are not for gay marriage, it makes me insane.. If they were, my vote would be perfect.

I do think that Palin stammered around that question and she did not come off well with her answer. It is not a choice, and if anyone said to me.. well I will just tolerate your lifestyle, I would be mental. Hugs to all here.. these are not great times.

One more thought.. when he and she say Maverick, I think of a young James Garner, sigh, I loved that TV Series when I was much younger.. Please.. Maverick?? Is that suppose to endear them to me?? It does not, I think it is weird.

When I hear Maverick I think of a Roller Coaster at Cedar Point that didn't run correctly the first six months of operation! :lmao:

Well one other little thing-
It might have been nice if she actually answered a few more of the question that she was asked

But I guess that doesn't matter to "Joe six pack".

I am not sure what Joe Six Pack is?? Sorry.. straight woman here.. sometimes I need a little help.

Similar terms for the common family can be Mr. & Mrs. John Q. Public, Mr. & Mrs. John Q. Citizen, or Mr. & Mrs. John Q. Taxpayer

Roughly equivalent, but more pejorative, are the names Joe Six-pack, Joe Blow, and Joe Schmoe, implying a lower-class citizen (from the Yiddish schmo: simpleton, or possibly Hebrew sh'mo: (what's)-his-name).

You know what? I like Palin. Even though her views are totally different than mine, I can see us having a chat over cofee. Do I like her enough to be my VP? He!! no!! I have to go with Biden on this one, I think he's more prepared for the job.
Besides, she even says "nucular"... so no change there. :lmao:

That's actually one of Palin's phrases, meaning the average stay-at-home-guzzling-beer type working class guy.

And whats with people that say...

WAR shinton!

There is no R in Washington!

OK.. well it does matter to me... and my family so I am not in that group. I am in the group that tries to make an intelligent decision based on all the facts and yes I live in MA where I dare to vote how I think.

But she had on some great pumps! :thumbsup2
