I'm curious... Did you already have the 160 resale before getting the 50 points direct.. or did Disney sell you the 50 points direct as a first-time buyer? I'm curious because I've seen reports that Disney is now allowing folks to have an initial 50-point purchase direct. That surprised me since we were required to purchase 160 for our first purchase back in April.

That surprised me since we were required to purchase 160 for our first purchase back in April.

No, actually only in a contract for the 160pts through resale. So, I was a first time buy in. I read on another thread about being able to buy in with only 50 pts and called immediately (a couple of minutes ago). I have heard the same as you have said from many others and actually threatened Disney that I was going resale last month and they still did not offer the 50pt buy in. I am pretty sure that it may have started within the last month.

Wow! Good to know... That puts DVC within the reach of many more young families. While 50 points by itself might not get you many nights, going every other year (like many families with young children) gets these families in the door in a studio. They can then add on over the years as their needs and finances change. Thinking back over our own past trips, I think this is a good thing for Disney to do. We would have been members so much sooner if lower points for direct buy in had been available (like... YEARS earlier).

I have not closed on the 160 pts. I passed ROFR earlier this month and will not close until February (I know I got a crazy contract). So, I was not a DVC member earlier today. Anyone can buy-in now for a 50pt contract.
