Official Worst Room Location Thread

I think I'd take my chances with the Villa side of the WL. Worst case scenario you're looking at a roof..it's better than being in a gator pond, or hearing the delivery trucks. Both times that we've been asigned to the official wooded side of the U shaped resort..we changed rooms. Either because of the noise..or smell of the smoke house. There are a couple of rooms where you can see a smidge of fireworks..but honestly I think the chance of getting that room apppears to be very slim. Just appears to me to be more of an opportunity for a lousy view on the official "woods view" side of the resort..rather than the side facing the villas. Since using the balcony is important to me (and one of the reasons I can't seem to go back to a moderate), I think requesting the Villa side of the resort there is a better shot of a decent room. At least in my experience so far. I do see from what's been written here that there have been changes to what is considered a woods view and courtyard view, and I'm dissappointed as they seem kind of deceptive to me. There is no way looking at the Villas(which I personally don't mind..they're quite nice) is equal to looking at the WL courtyard, or the Villa Pool. To charge the same rate is plain wrong..but on the upside, I guess you won't wind up in the "gator pond"!:rotfl: Also, I do know there is a disabled room right over the main lobby area..as I did ask to see one, and someone from the front desk did show me the room. (my dad is disabled, and I wondered if the rooms would be able to accomodate his needs.) Just in case someone wants to request a disabled room that wasn't near the gator pond! I would agree that the view as I remember it wasn't great, roof area..but not bad, that being said.. I do believe it was a standard view room..

I wonder..I think it was "HugsforEyore"...where did you get the map of the WL?..:confused3 I 'd love to have that site..I think it would help in requesting a room. Thanks!;)

I think maybe it was a map I put together in 2004...I think it's still accurate.

Here's the link.

At that time, the Villa-facing rooms in the "far" wing were considered Courtyard View, but those in the wing closest to the front of the Lodge were definitely Woods View, not Courtyard view...I'm not sure if things have changed.

Thanks so much.. I'm curious to see if the room they first assigned us before we moved was actually a woods view, when in fact we paid for a courtytard view. I've got to dig up that room number, I'm sure I have it somewhere. ;)

No room at Pop Century is more than 750 feet from the center of Classic Hall.

This is 100% incorrect. Sorry, but a quick spin on Google Earth shows that the rooms in the farthest corners of the 80's buildings are 1/3 mile (on the walking path) to Classic Hall. That's more like 1,750 feet. Same as from the farthest corners of the 50's buildings.

You made that map?? THANK YOU!!! Yep, that's the link I got it from! On my recent trip in January at WL, that map single-handedly saved me from getting (again) a king bed handicapped-assessible ground floor room! I brought that map with me to check-in, prepared to fight for a balcony that I requested (which was ignored). I am so glad I had that map! :faint:

When I checked-in and got assigned room 0165 (or 1065 can't remember), I checked the map and instantly knew where it was, and that it did not have a balcony. I started begging right there and then for a room with a balcony, pleading that I was traveling solo and felt more secure up higher (very true). And I simply wanted the privacy of a balcony, not be "on display" to anyone walking by 2 feet away if I had a patio. Fortunately, the CM understood and found me another room (a really nice one!) - I am so thankful the CM didn't pull the old "we're all full" line. :)

If I didn't have that map at check-in, I probably would have been stuck with a ground floor HA room .... again. I feel like balconies are forbidden to me at WL - I can't get one without a fight! :confused3 Least this recent trip was great, and I enjoyed that balcony all I could (I even sat out there in 40 degree weather!). :teeth:

You may be onto something with regard to room assignment at WL...on our first WL stay, DW and I GOT room 1065, and we stayed there! Your description of the room is accurate...and on top of that, the speaker that plays the famous WL music was right next to our patio (great music, but LOUD and repetitive:scared1:) .

Still, we have really fond memories of that room...partly because it was our first experience at WL, which is now our favorite resort, and partly because there were hidden benefits, such as easy access to the beach and boat dock, and easy access to Roaring Forks, diagonally across the gorgeous courtyard.

Ahhh! I'm glad that room worked for you! And thanks for confirming it is a king bed handicapped-assessible room. I think if it were my 1st trip there and it was during warm weather, I may have liked that room for the pool access. But on my recent trip, I know I would have been very upset to get that room, when all I wanted was a balcony (and paid $350 to upgrade to courtyard just to avoid the loading dock). Actually if I stayed in room 1065, I would have been fuming that WL once again tried to place me in unwanted ground floor HA rooms. :sad2:

When you see all the photos of WL and the beautiful courtyard, and to wind up on the ground with no view, for me it would be a huge disappointment. :(

Yea, I think I am done with WL for a long time!

Worst room for us ever was at Saratoga Springs, in the Paddock section just a couple of DAYS after it had opened. :sad2: There was no internal bus yet. The door locks kept breaking. The rain kept flooding the hallways and into the rooms. And every time we had a problem, it was a twenty minute walk back to the front desk to tell them about it! I think we made it to the main building once or twice in ten days. I hated it!

We stayed in the Paddock section last June and although the internal buses were up and running the walk to the main lobby was long. In the two weeks we were there we ate at the foodcourt once it was so far!

How many minutes does it take to walk that on average?

Anyone know? :confused3

We are staying in Villas Wilderness Lodge and Beach Club Villas in June and I was wondering if anyone can give me any tips for what location to request or any locations or room numbers to avoid like the plague?

Thanks

This would be a good question for the DVC board.

I stole this map from HFE.

We stayed at WL. We had an awesome room that looked out on the Courtyard and the Springs with a great view of the pool and the Lake from our balcony. We were on like the 5th floor..don't quite remember. Well we were there a few days and then my elderly parents were going to be joining us. Not knowing a thing about WL I asked the Front Desk to see if they could be near us (I should have said BUT not across from us)....WL said sure. They put M&D across from us. They checked in in the late evening, curtains closed and off to bed everyone goes.

The next morning I go to visit them...they are early risers and I found them sitting out on their balcony enjoying the sun (Dec) and eating some fruit they had brought.....welllllll.....can I just tell you I was  at their view....DUMPSTERS and a LOADING DECK in full swing...trucks backing up and pulling in. I was APPALLED. I wanted to call the FD and complain. M&D said they had absolutely NO problem with it and not to bother calling anyone. :scared1: I just figured for the amount of $$$ for the room I would have expected more and not loading docks and dumpsters and trucks....
