Official Wine and Dine 2017 thread

Yes, it’s the number of minutes:seconds we run followed by the number of seconds (always 30) we walk.

Thanks! I'm curious to try this out and may start with the pacing group to see if I can hang with this. Any idea how much faster than the published pace you are running in order to walk for 30 seconds every 4 minutes?

EDIT I found a run/walk calculator on Runners World's website. The only question is what to input as the walking pace. Any guesses for what the pace per mile is for walking?

I think Galloway often assumes about 20 minute mile walking pace, although it varies a bit by individual pacer. This is at the 2:45 goal; I would guess that the faster times also assume a bit faster walk.

Interesting no pacer for Coral B. I would have thought they'd have pacers for every coral and have more pacers than strictly at 15 minute intervals. There is a HUGE difference between running at an 8:00 pace and a 9:09 pace....

Why would they have more pacers than at 15 minute intervals? Those are the most common time goals people have when running races. If 1:45 is too fast and 2:00 is too slow, you'll need to pace yourself or use the 1:45 group as a guide and keep them within a certain distance.

I was going to the runDisney site to look up the event guide to fianlize a plan to tell DP where to chEar, and noticed that the half marathon still has open spots, offered until ~1:30pm Saturday (as long as they last). There is a $12 late registration fee.

A race that, in 2015, sold out in about 37 minutes.

Kind of defeats the purpose of having people sign up 10 months out...Was it known in 2015 that the race would be the last night Wine and Dine?

I can't remember if there were rumors, but it definitely was not advertised as the last night race or confirmed by any means.

Nope cause that was why my now brother in law & his friends were twisting our arms to sign up last year...race weekend was 2 weeks before the wedding and we only ever did 5ks so it was a hard pass however when they announced moving the half up to daytime and adding the 10k I was in... ironically me and my sister are doing the 10k again this Saturday and he’s not doing Disney this year cause do to personal things (school) he has taken a year hiatus from racing

10 more minutes left of work then I am on vacation!!!

Well to be fair, wine and dine is a totally different race today than it was in 2015. It's still fun but there are major differences. Night vs morning, different course, and I believe they expanded the registration cap. I haven't done wine and dine morning version and I can't wait but if anyone has done the night version they will tell you the wine and dine had a great pre-race atmosphere out in the ESPN area. And the night party after was a big draw especially for the spectators. I am still excited but I think they almost have to be considered different races.

And if my memory serves me I do think there was a ton of speculation that it would be the last year for the Osborne lights. Anyone who has done the wine and dine thru that will say it would motivate a quick registration. It was awesome!

Also I think they opened up more spots lately bc when I registered earlier this year I had to use a travel agent bc registration was full. Perhaps they held spots for the challenge (that was not full) and now are selling the half spots from that? (But not the 10k!!!?)

Well, I'm no veteran runner or anything like you must be, so maybe I'm talking out of school. All I know is that one of the two half marathons I've run so far (both this year) had pacers at more frequent intervals-every five-ten minutes. I didn't realize that was unreasonable to request. So sorry. I assume the pacers are just volunteers who get their entry fee waived or something like that. It can't possibly be a big cost and it helps a lot. I don't know why a 1:55 or a 1:50 runner wouldn't appreciate a pace group on the run. Sheesh.

It’s really just going to depend on the race and who’s doing the pacing. Clif who used to do Disney looks to be doing them every 10 minutes, then as the finish times move up the gap gets bigger. Chart for NYC Marathon show pacers in five minute goal increments. Bigger races may offer more pacers and thus more options maybe. Guess short story is it just depends on where you are. :)

Pacers are decided collectively between the pace group (in this case, the Galloway group that runs out of WWoS/Celebration weekly) and the race director based on the race field. I've only seen what I would deem "aggressive pace" times like 1:45-1:50-1:55 at Disney races at Marathon Weekend.

Also, you'll get more people to converse with you and provide information if you watch your attitude. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, and @FFigawi is one of the most veteran RunDisney competitors we have around these parts.

If you personally have an issue with how pace groups are structured, I would stop by the Galloway Pace Group table at the Expo and relay your experience from your other half marathons and how you'd like to see them change.

I've got my waivers printed and ready to go, the laundry is running so I can pack and I'm sitting here finishing up costumes. Where oh where is the merchandise preview?!

Sorry if this may sound like a silly question, but I was never ware of the pacing groups until now. I've done a few Disney HM's/challenges, and I truly haven't trained for this one since I've had a foot injury, but I' still going to go for it and try my best at doing the challenge. How do the pacing groups work: like, how do we find the pacer in our corral, and do we have to let them know ahead of time? Also, are there any pacing groups for the 10k as well? Thanks in advance!

They're fairly easy to find - they carry signs and balloons to make themselves visible in the corrals and on the course itself. You don't need to let them know you're running with them in advance, but if you want to, you can meet them at the expo. Some or all of them will be there to explain their pacing strategy, let you know exactly where in the corrals they will be, and give you a chance to chat with them.

I am so excited for this weekend! I don't leave until Friday, so still a few days of anticipation to go.

Also, it's weird to me that runDisney still has spaces available to register for the race, and yet they have done absolutely nothing this week so far to promote it on their social media accounts. I mean, it's fine by me if the race is less crowded than it could be. But with the way runDisney seems to be in moneygrab-mode lately, I'm surprised they haven't been posting about Wine & Dine daily. Maybe they'll get on it today. And post that merchandise preview.

23 minutes and then I am on vacation, flying out from sunny Aberdeen first thing tomorrow morning (that's sunny Aberdeen in the North East of Scotland) I'm getting really excited now and please runDisney gods.............can we see that merch????:dogdance:

I know a lot of question about adding your bib number to memory maker have been asked but im still having trouble :(

1. Do you add your bib as a PhotoPass Card
2. If you do it before the race is there any indication on the site that it worked?
3. Should i just revisit this after the race instead of worrying about it now?
