If you walk from OKW, you will be walking to the starting corrals, not to Epcot. The bus picks runners up at the front of the Hospitality House. The distance from HH to the starting corrals to not much different than the distance of the official "walk out".

Good catch... If one walks from OKW, plan on using the cast member parking lot, not the main entrance as you leave OKW and have your bib ready for inspection as you cross Bonnet Creek Dr. You will not have access to the checked bag tents... unless you really want to walk .6 miles against 24000 others going the opposite direction.

I'm just going to keep saying to myself, Mickey Mouse medal, Goofy medal & hoping that'll help me get through the last 10k

Ooh that is a good one. I plan on being festooned with positive sayings and people's names to keep me going. I *really* like the bling though, too!

Good morning!

Can I put in this one shameless plug for fundraising for the Tower of Terror 10 miler? I am fundraising for Autism Speaks - Disney's official charity for the race. If you want to support me in this cause, please visit my Wish Journal for the links:

Or for Canadian donations:

For US donations:

I believe I am following the rules for posting for fundraising as I got clarification from a mod.

I would be very happy and grateful for any donations: 100% goes to Autism Speaks. Thanks for considering. If it's not your thing, no worries. :flower3:

During our training runs (I am totally just starting out and doing the Half), I have to keep telling myself "Donald Duck medal, Donald Duck medal". My DD is in the jogging stroller, and we run to pretend characters and give them high fives before we switch back to a walking interval.

btw, my knee is feeling MUCH better. I'm excited to get back to it on Monday! Interesting thing, I found out my kneecap is shaped oddly--I can't wear an open patella brace because it hooks it when I bend and then straighten again. So I've just been doing an ACE bandage.

I don't think people should judge whether or not someone other then themselves can do something. I do think a Goofy has to be extremely challenging but who am I to say what someone can or can't do? I think the Dopey is pure madness but I guess some people think what's another 5 miles? LOL Personally, I will wait until I have a full marathon under my belt before attempting the Goofy and crossing it off the bucket list, but that's just me.

As long as you put in the work and hours and miles during your training, you'll be physically ready for race day. The hard part is the mental part. Your body will probably want to stop at some point during the last 10k of the race, and that's where the fun begins. You'll need to dig deep and convince yourself that you can stop at the end and tough it out over the next few miles. Whether it's a mantra that you repeat to yourself for motivation or a friendly face along the way, something will trigger your brain to stop noticing the pain and just get on with it. After that, you're fine. :)

This is where I am. I really wanted to go Goofy last year, but I decided that I needed to know that I could finish the marathon first, so I signed up for the marathon only in 2012. Personally, I'm glad I made this decision, but I'm certainly not going to judge anyone who does it differently (i.e. running their first marathon as part of the Goofy Challenge). :confused3 I think that, as FFigawi said, EVERYONE is just going to need to make sure they put in the work during the months beforehand, from those running the 5K to those going Dopey.

Full runners, today is our six month mark!

YAY! :cool1: Everything is booked for me except my ADRs...and I've got an alarm set for tomorrow at 5:45AM to get those. Woohoo!

Just bought my plane ticket. $360 vs the $200 I paid last year and to top it off on a bankrupt airline.

Anyway, there is no backing out now, injured or not injured. The $300 for the race and the $200 for the race retreat guaranteed I wouldn't back out before the plane ticket.

If yiu booked through the I run number and want to add the dining package they can do it starting after noon on the 17th

I myself am being a little nutty as this will be my first marathon AND my first Goofy. I am following the Galloway training plan on the RunDisney website and do have a few half marathons under my belt. With that said, I do understand (somewhat) the mental aspect of doing a marathon & know the dedication to train. Is there any advice you can give me and those that are in my shoes but may be too timid to ask due to the potential backlash?

Train hard. Race easy.

This.

And this.

And one last thing, the advice that was given to me when I first came on the WISH boards and said that I was running my first half *and* my first full with the Goofy - indeed, they were my first races at all. Lily, one of our WISH moderators, said:

Respect the distance.

That became my mantra. (Well, that and "man up.") What it meant, to me, was that I took no shortcuts in my training. If I was in for the Goofy, I was in 100%.

I trained hard (running, XT, strength, flexibility and the importance of rest and nutrition) - mostly because I was both terrified and excited for the challenge. Yeah, it was hard and it took over my life for a while.

But during the Goofy, I found the mental part somewhat easier than expected. The course was entertaining (and all new to me), I had a goal in mind (not time-related), and I had something to prove to myself: that a lifelong couch potato could change her ways. The other athletes, including WISHers, were supportive and entertaining.

So even though the last 10 miles were a bit of a blur, I found that all the training I'd put in during all the miles - where mentally it was tough, not to mention physically - helped make the Goofy far more fun than I could have expected. Tough, but fun.

And you know my only regret? That I didn't start running sooner. :goodvibes

So train hard (and smart), have fun with your new challenge, and welcome to the Goofiness. Oh, and I'm going Goofy in 2013, too.

This is my perspective: I am one of the perhaps foolish folk who signed up for Goofy as my first full. It will be my second half, and I will have done the ToT 10 miler, too. However, I am going to run the half as my goal race and take the full super slow and just try to finish. If it is too much I will DNF the full. I know myself well enough to know that I will respect my body, but I also have the dedication and strength of will to finish if it is possible and safe for me to do so.

I have a lot of training to do between now and then to get there, I realize that. My half in October will give me a really good training experience and I plan to continue from there to the full training. If I can't do it, well, I can't do it. But I tried. I plan to give the Goofy my 100% - what ever that ends up being. I *will* put in the training and I do bring complete dedication.

I'm the only one who will tell me what I am or am not capable of doing. :hippie:

Of course, I am all bravado now only in the 3rd week of my half-marathon training! :rotfl2: We haven't started the hill repeats yet! :lmao:

I think you will do amazing in the Goofy! I am signed up for the Goofy too. I ran the full in 2007 and since then haven't run more than a total of 300 miles in the last 5 years. When I did the full, I had never run before and started training at the 6 month point. This time around I'm less in shape but I'm well prepared mentally. I have just started training, last night I made 5 miles, still a little slow. My training half is in September.

I'm doing the Goofy to enjoy the run through the parks and enjoy a challenge. For me it's go big or go home. :cool1:

Don't let the Facebook page get you down. I've seen a lot of negativity on there. If you want to run the Goofy and put in the time and effort, run the Goofy.

The great thing about running is that it's your efforts that help you cross the finish line and it can be a team sport if you want it to be, but doesn't have to be. If you want encouragement and motivation from friends, family or strangers--then you can listen to those on the sidelines. Otherwise, ignore them and it's an individual experience.

I love that! I pretended to see the castle in the distance... When the runs are tough, I find myself thinking "I hate this @#$!%^* mouse! $@#% you, Mickey!"

Did the 2010 Full

Did the 2011 Half

Did the 2012 Half (was suppose to be Goofy but had to miss Sunday to relocate to new job starting that Monday)

Just signed up for the 2013 GOOFY! Finally. Let's get this sucker off the bucket list.

Hoping Mr. Galloway can get me through this one healthy and happy and able to drink in Epcot on Sunday night. LOL

I do the same thing!! I watch the marathon route video and say "I'm at the Magic Kingdom!!!" It makes the run so much more fun

I need to get the Half route in my head so I can do that, too!

I'm excited--found out about a "Back to Football" 5K that will be held Sept 8th---Champions Square to the 50-yard line in the Superdome. DH and I are signing up tomorrow night! This will be my first race (since I couldn't do the Crescent City Classic 10K when I broke my toe three days prior). :cool1::cool1:
