Wow, we are all over the place. If I can't get my standard deal at S&D we'll either stay at AK or Boardwalk. I might see if my friend still has points left over, I think they roll over in August. I'll text her tomorrow and see what DH wants to do. Is anyone doing the pasta dinner?

*********
When is everyone going down? I'm looking at Wed - Mon. I want to get to the expo early since we've never been before. Trying to decide if we should just get a town car or rent a car. Not sure if we should drive to the expo or just take the bus. DS and I took the bus for the Everest Challenge and it was fine but the lines were super long to get our registration for the race.

I'm making a trip out of it as well. It will be my 40th (eek) birthday. I've always wanted AK so that's why I'm so far out. I ay have to get a car. I took bus to exp last year and it was fine. Oh, nobody has talked about pasta dinner in our group, but I may. I'm headed down thur staying thru following Friday.

Question for you: you said you wear running skirts. What kind do you like? :confused3 I really, REALLY want a running skirt - they're just so darn cute - but they are so expensive! I looked at the sale link you posted in the shopping thread and I'm thinking about trying runningskirts.com but they were out of my size in the one I wanted :sad1: (red with white polka dots...like Minnie! :goodvibes)

If you're worried about blisters I'd suggest investing in new socks. I had issues until I started wearing Balega socks. They're pricey - about $7 per pair - but they are totally worth it! Here are the ones I like:

Isn't it funny all the stuff you end up buying when you run?

I bought mine from sparke skirts. They have red white polka dot one too. Wonderful people too.

Good to know about the socks....I will check em out

Thanks! Actually right after I posted the question I hopped on SparkleSkirts and ordered a plain black one! :goodvibes I hope I like it. I have seen the red/white polka dot one that you're talking about, and I decided if I like the black one I'll get either the red/white or the pink/white polka dot for the full marathon.

Yep, love the socks. To me they (like most running gear, I guess) are pricey, but worth it. I think the difference is that they are not cotton, so they don't rub against the feet as much. :confused3 AND they are a whopping $1 cheaper on RunningWearhouse.com! :lmao: In all seriousness though, at least this way the shipping is free. But I swear I paid more like $7 for them at my local running store, so you may want to check around.

Oh boy. I have ALMOST gathered the nerve to sign up for the full marathon!

Good grief. Why is it so hard to push the button?

I had someone else push it for me when I registered for the Goofy so I could curse them up and down all weekend and then thank them later.

I sat there and looked at the screen for a long time before I could hit the button. Then I just closed my eyes and did it.

This sounds like the way it's going to go down for me too....!! Like others have said, I wonder if this one will fill faster due to the 20th anniversary.

Thanks for the quick responses about checking out on Saturday. My DIL has run several 1/2's (just not at Disney). Now I just have to make the reservations.

I was wondering also about the Pasta party. It sounds like something DH and I could do on Thursday night before the rest of the family gets there (cheaper for two than six).

I have signed up for the Marathon, it will be my first! So far, the longest race I have done is 10 miles, and I have 2 Halfs scheduled for this year. I am SO excited to be doing my first marathon in Disney!
My dd and I are making a Girls' Weekend out of it, and she will be ChEARing me on at the finish, altho she will *not* be there ate the start. She says it is waaaaay too early, lol.
On my way to check out Hal Higdon's plan for the Marathon so I can figure out my strategy. I am considering walking parts of it, but I just *know* that the competitor in me will not allow that! I plan to train as if I am running the whole thing! I will be 3 months shy of 40 when I do it, and have been running since the Fall, so we will see if I am running, or kinda shuffling at the end, lol.
Very very excited! I have an email in to my travel agent about booking the new Animator's Hotel, dd really wants the Little Mermaid room!

Here's my Marathon Weekend wwyd?
The last 2 years we've gone for Marathon Weekend with the 3 kids and my parents. My parents are aging and my mom has emphysema so she uses an ECV. For 2013 my DH has announced that he wants me to go alone so he doesn't have to manage the kids (in 2010 my mom was awful but this year my parents were pretty helpful). I was hoping to bring the kids one last time to do the 5k together and bring my nanny along with my parents.
My kids and I had already talked about the 5k before my DH announced that he doesn't want the kids along. My parents really want to go again and see the kids in the 5k (my mom is training to walk a 5k!). I don't know what to do! I really think with 5 adults and 3 kids we should be good, even if I run 39.3 miles (or 42.4 if I do the 5k) but I don't know how to convince my DH.
Thoughts?
I am going alone for the ToT weekend but we've always been together for the marathon weekend. And it's my 1st Goofy...

Amanda

Excitedly, this will be my first marathon. The ambitousness in me wants to do the Goofy, but maybe next time. Anybody else coming from South Jersey?

Definitely looking forward to this!

I am in Central Jersey, will be flying out of AC or Phillie.

I'm in Point Pleasant. I running the Asbury Park Half on April 21 and hopefully going to sign up for the full after that. I've been nursing a few injuries lately so I want to make sure I can do the half straight through before I sigh up for the full. Just did the Princess as my first half this year. I had such a blast! I stopped at just about every picture spot, so I want to see what my "real" time would be.

I am in Point, too! I am working the JSRC table at the finish line in Asbury Park, lol. My first 2 Halfs will be May 6 and Sept 16 and then I am doing the WDW Marathon!

Hi Kim! Are you in the beach or the boro? We are in the boro. I'll look for you as I cross the finish line in Asbury! What half are you doing in Sept? Is that the one in Seaside? I am hoping to do another half in the fall. I'll PM you if you ever want to meet up.

Thought I would mention I went ahead and started a Pre-Trip Report. Yes its eight months out. Do I really care? Nope! Here's the link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2910090

On a side note for those who were following my Princess trip report, I promise I will be updating that this weekend. Probably on Friday.

I am in the Boro as well :thumbsup2
I am doing the Philadelphia Rock n Roll in September :cool1:

Stop by the booth and say hi after the race if you aren't too tired. It is the Jersey Shore Running Club clothing booth, and from what I understand I will be in the Convention Center!

Amanda, I think if you bring the nanny that would take some of the pressure off your husband. Your kids are also older then they were last year (how old are they?) so as they age it does get better. This year I won't take my kids because DD is only 6 but with DS being 16 1/2 next year and her being 7, I might bring them. Plus it's mine and DH's 20th anniversary in 2013 so we want to do something alone! LOL
How is your mom doing physically? Is your dad helpful? Is there anyone else you can bring to help them or are they pretty independent?
Obviously it's up to your family but I think with a nanny on board, you will be ok.

One of the strategies I use is to walk during the water stops-- that way you're being safe (water stops can be slippery, especially if you're in the middle or back of the pack), getting hydrated, and not pushing your pace too hard if you're worried that will be an issue.

Yes I always walk the water stops too. I try to be careful on the slippery ground and watch out for others. Also, slowing down to drink the water helps to make sure I don't accidentally gulp a bunch of air due to sloshing water, which can cause a stomach pain issue later in the race!
