Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

Don't let the weather deter you from enjoying every moment of the race. Instead, relish it!

Pros:
-comfortable wait time before the start
-enjoyable run in the early hours
-biggest pro--able to use the pool at the resort and overall have a warm, sunny winter vacation!:beach:

The race is a very small (though obviously, important) part of the weekend. Great weather will make the trip more memorable than nasty cold grey January grossness:thumbsup2

I do hope they fix the waiver issue soon. I have to print mine off so dh can go pick up my bib for me due to my work constraints. He is flying in a day before I am. Otherwise I don't know what I am going to do.

Well, count me in with those with knee issues. Grrrrrrr... I felt it on a long run/walk last wk after about 7 miles when we were going down a big hill and I was running. I walked and it was better, but I'd I started running again, it was horrendous. And em ten even after walking a bit, it was still quite uncomfortable. Today it stated after only 2, and it made for a really long 5 miles. It's directly under my patella and I have no idea what to do about it!! I'm so frustrated!!

I get knee 'discomfort' in my right knee so I always wear a knee brace. I don't know why though because my left knee is fine. Once I didn't wear a knee brace for a half marathon because it felt great...until mile 8...by the end of the race my left knee started bothering me (because my right knee was bothering me by the end that the discomfort went to my hips and made its way around my left leg)
So for this race coming up I am wearing a knee brace in my right knee, I will have a left knee brace but keep it around my ankles should I need it - this is for the full.

who says it can't still be magical? Since it's your first marathon, don't worry about a specific time goal and just go out and enjoy the day. Run a little slower as it gets warmer when the sun comes up, take time to look around at all the sights, sounds, and disney magic, thank all the volunteers you encounter, and have a wonderful time accomplishing a goal that you've worked hard for over the past eight months. :thumbsup2

+1

Nothing we can do about the weather.....just make the most of it. You've trained for it!

Hi, Was soooo excited for my first marathon next weekend and know the fear is setting in because of the warm weather. So frustrating after 8 months of training. So wanted it to be as magical as the princess last year.

SIGH!

Warmer than average temperatures cannot out do Disney magic.pixiedust:Don't worry about what you cannot control. It's going to be a great weekend!!:woohoo::woohoo:

I am in the minority looking forward to the projected temps. I run better in the warm as opposed to the cold. And since I started training last June for a race in October and continued for Goofy, I am ok with the temps.

I have however, not been doing much lately due to the cold and life in general. Plus my PF in my left foot was killing me right before the holidays. It is much better now, but I am concerned about not having done much in recent weeks.

I have over 7 months of training (I really started back in April, but wasn't "officially" training until June) so I know that the distance is totally doable for the half. The full is concerning me more, as I DNF'd my marathon in Oct, but both my 20 milers (including my b2b 10/20) were great. I know I can do it, I am just a little nervous since I really cannot take the full 7 hours to finish as we have a ship to catch that afternoon. Pre-race jitters to the max I guess. Plus the stress of travelling, dealing with all the work I need to get squared away before I leave etc.

Thank you again to Coach and everyone else here for making this journey as much fun as it has been. But I can honestly tell you I am really looking forward to it being done!!!

Who all is going to the POP meet on Friday and the Drink Around the World on Monday? I plan on being at both (especially the drinking part).

I am staying at the Boardwalk and will wear my Homer hat, so if you see me say Hi.

I'm solo on this trip, but was planning on doing drink around the world Monday. Any details about when/where folks are starting?

I always seem to get stuck standing in the first porta potty area after bag drop for a solid 15 minutes before everyone seems to start moving. Is there a barricade preventing runners from going to their corrals until a certain time? If so, what time can you start the crawl to the corrals? If I don't drop a bag, is there a different route to take that by- passes the first set of potties since I wait until closer to the corrals to stop?

What type of brace do you use?
A friend of my husbands is an avid runner and started having knee issues right before Boston one year. She went to a certain chiropractor that helped her get thru it, so I'm gonna try to get in to him to see if there is a brace or something to get me thru.

I do seem to recall a no bag section but I don't remember where it is. Maybe in the middle? Although there could be more than one spot too. Hopefully a more experienced person will chime in.
I remember the death march to the corrals for the half in 2011 taking way too long for my liking and having to sprint my corral just for the start to be delayed (I think Al Roker wasn't there yet maybe?). Not fun. I headed in earlier the next day for the full but it was much faster and smoother going (less bodies?)
So my advice is to go in earlier than you think you need to for the half since the corrals are farther from the holding pen than you think they are and there can be delays from the vast number of people trying to get to them.
I did not experience any issues in the bag check tents though, they were super efficient.

There is a no bag line, but it still hits the holding area on the other side of the baggage claim area; that is surrounded by the PoP you cite. There is a gate/fence that drops around 0430. If you head through the tents as soon as you arrive you can swim up the stream and wait for the fence to drop. The easiest way to the gate is to walk through the very last/furtherest bag check tent or by pass if outside of the last bag check tent. It is adjacent to the gate. You can usually walk through the tent without waiting on line if you do not have a bag.

[ADDED] - just looked at this year's plan of the area in the final instructions and see a bypass line at the far end. That is the line you want if not using facilities in the pen.

I'll be there on Monday. My poor DH is putting up with me, our kids, my mom, my sis and her kids. Just search for the bald guy who looks like he's had enough.

What is going on at POP century?
2nd time out for half never heard of this event.

Thanks
Colleen

Too funny!

Have you worked out the sleeping issues? Did you ever try the melatonin?

Is that the last place for porta-potties? I am in Corral B if that matters.
