Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Dark Side 2017

Considering resorts for the weekend and have it narrowed to POFQ and CBR. Anyone have any insight on how they work for race weekends, in general, or specifically for Dark Side Weekend? Never stayed at either. Only resort I've ever stayed at is POR. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide!
French Quarter is my favorite moderate - I haven't stayed at Caribbean Beach yet.

I like the small size of French Quarter and its park-like atmosphere. I have stayed there a couple of times for Wine & Dine and it was great! And bonus - beignets within walking distance!! :lovestruc

this past weekend was the end of week 4. How is everyone's training going?
I'm not really following any plan right now, but managing a case of plantar fasciitis in my left foot (should have paid more attention to the pain back in Oct oops). I just got superfeet green inserts and got in some miles last week (after a week off due to pain and 0 degrees) and I think they are helping. I did get a 5 miler in on Saturday which was the longest in a few weeks with no major shooting heel pain. We have freezing rain all day so no run today. Really hoping for good Feb/Mar weather as I'm so over winter already. I need to hash out a rough plan though as I guess we are only about 3 months out I guess, eek!

I have been pleasantly surprised at how quickly I am getting back up to speed (literally), and am feeling really hopeful about spring PRs!
That's great you're getting back up to what you want so quick.

I know I might have asked this before and I was wondering if I could get help from everybody who's Taken part in this race as far as the registration goes online. ICU registration is on May 23rd which is on a Tuesday at noon. I just started a new job and I have no time that I can take off unfortunately. My question is if I came back later in the day around 5:30 or 6 p.m. when I'm off from work would I be able to still register and get a spot in the 10K for this race for next year? Hopefully someone can help and give me some information because I cannot simply take off from work since I have no vacation time until later in the year. Thanks in advance.

You have to register for the challenge and then there is a form on the website you fill out and email in to them. They then refund the price of the race you were originally signed up for, minus a $45 change fee.

I wish there was an option to just pay the difference because I would have done that months ago. I hate the idea of having to put out that much money right now for the challenge and then have to wait for the refund, which I have heard of people getting it back within the hour or it taking 2 weeks.

Booo... and I just signed up on Friday for the half. I guess I should have thought it through more carefully. It would be a change fee for both me and DH.. the refund process I'd be okay with but the change fee.. yuck. Decisions decisions... another night hotel, plus change fee and the difference... as always...take my money disney.

PLEASE NOOOOOOO. I hate WWOS, lol.

I was expecting to hate that part of the course during the marathon, but @mbwhitti is right. There was some great character spots there and although you're in there for a long time, it was pretty fun. In Anaheim, they have the 501st all over the old downtown area, and it was awesome! (2016) They didn't have nearly enough of that at Dark Side last year, so there is an opportunity to get some good on course support through there.

It's the flights that are killing me. I'm trying to figure out to make this work as a quick weekend visit but small town airport prices and times are making it difficult.

If you are following the rD Galloway training plan, this past weekend was the end of week 4. How is everyone's training going?

I am not following the Galloway plan, but my Hansons plan is also at the end of week 4, and so far, I have completed every run. Let's hope this trend continues throughout the winter!

I don't remember there being much of anything there when I did the marathon in 2015. Then again, I had hurt myself at my first marathon 6 weeks before Disney so I spent most of the race just expecting to get swept, lol. (I didn't end up getting swept though! Still no idea how I managed to get through that race. 2018 will be much redemption on that race!)

Happy Monday everyone!

If you are following the rD Galloway training plan, this past weekend was the end of week 4. How is everyone's training going?

I started at week 2 and am feeling good. I haven't run consistently since the end of 2014; I ran like 200 miles total last year and less in 2015. I burned myself out with too many races (there is such a thing! LOL) in 2014. I have been pleasantly surprised at how quickly I am getting back up to speed (literally), and am feeling really hopeful about spring PRs!

Well, I'm stalled at seven miles. Between weather and illness I haven't been able to get out and try for more. Luckily though, I'm still "ahead" of the rD Galloway plan on my own terms. Looking to get out there tonight, and if my workday keeps going on like it is, I'm looking forward to some peace out there working off the stress of the day.

Yea, Memphis can be difficult sometimes but Southwest sales are the only way we can get to Orlando.

My training is basically nonexistent at this point. Since Wine and Dine in November, I've done 2 runs outside (2 local 5Ks) and a handful of runs on the treadmill, but then work started back after Winter Break and I got a cold with some throat soreness/congestion and it didn't seem like a good idea to try to run. It seems to be starting to clear up so hopefully I can get back at it soon.

I'll be starting my training next Tuesday, picking up on week 5 of the Galloway plan. I always take a couple days off, but running in bad shoes gave me some awesome blisters and the shins are a bit sore, so I'm going to take a week off and let everything rest and recover. Looking forward to better races for the Darkside!

Don't forget Proof of Time is due by Jan. 19, in just a few days.
I'm hesitating on registering until the course map is released. If I register after January 19, does that mean I can't submit POT? It seems harsh to send all late registrants to the last corral. Sorry if it's been answered before; I never paid attention because I usually sign up early.

I'd think you would still be placed accordingly as you would include POT when you register. I just think the 19th is the cut off for updating or changing your POT.

You might want to reconsider holding off that long. Course maps have been released very late for races lately, usually not until the event guides are published. You run the risk of missing out on the races if they close registration prior to that point.

It isn't, lol! I'm still in my 2-week post-Dopey recovery period: no running until next week.

Unfortunately, no one can answer that with any certainty: it may sell out quickly or it may be open for months. If you absolutely cannot register when it opens, best to accept that it may not be available later in the day, and if it is, it'll be a happy surprise!

You can submit your POT but it still has to be from a race that was before January 19.

Thanks, I hadn't thought about that.

That's so helpful. Thank you!
