Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend 2016 Thread (Jan. 14-17, 2016)

Question for the experts...

When the Star Wars registration opens next week, can I log into their site and sign myself up AND sign my husband up? Or would he be required to log himself in and sign himself up? I like doing all our vacation planning and I'd feel most comfortable signing us BOTH up at the SAME time so I'm hoping you guys tell me I can do that. :earsboy:

Thanks!!!

I think each adult will need to be registered separately and that the process will be quicker if adults are already registered with an Active account.

I could be wrong but pretty sure that is what I read.

I planning to register my husband using the account I created for him.

New this time, each adult needs their own Active account. You can open yours in one web browser and his in another web browser and be ready to go right at noon.

I must say, though, that given my experience this time registering myself, DH, my sister and two kids, next time I'll have each adult doing his/her own and I'll take care of the kids. The rebel challenge just went "on hold" way too quickly to get it all done. I ended up getting 7 of 8 things I wanted to register for, so perhaps I shouldn't complain too much... ;)

So do you go directly to the active site or go through run Disney site? Which do I have open to be ready at noon. Thanks!

You go through the rD link, but already being signed into your Active account means you can skip that sign-in step after you hit the Disney link -- you're already signed in and ready to register via Active. :)

Thank you!!!!

I had no idea about the Active accounts so they are set up now.

I assume that once registration opens, there will be a really obvious looking "Register" button on the runDisney page and that'll take me where I need to be? I tried going through the motions on the WDW Marathon event, but it's not really working - I assume it's because I'm on my iPad?

No problem! :)

Yes. Once registration opens, it'll be pretty obvious... if you're in the right spot. :) Take a look at the following link... http://www.rundisney.com/disneyworld-marathon/ ... it's accessed by going to rundisney.com, and selecting the event you want. Then click on the "REGISTRATION" tab. If you try it out by clicking on the Full Marathon link, you'll see that it takes you right to Active to register. There you see the big "REGISTER NOW" button.

They want all adults to register themselves. That means, in reality, we just need to log out of one active account in between registrations.

I found it really easy to log into (even create) the second active account while registering DH. But it's good you have it done, so just do one, click "this isn't me" or whatever it exactly says, and then do the other.

Have your CC info in a Word (or whatever) document so you can just copy and paste. If your CC can get squirrely about two charges right in a row, have TWO CCs in the Word document so you can do your Visa for the first and MC for the second (or whatever). I'm so pleased with our card that it handled 3 charges right in a row like a champ; it's not normal behavior for our CC, so I was very happy.

Don't do ANY of this on your ipad. Computer only.

I might have felt the same way if I was just doing two. Not knowing this was necessary, and needing to create one for DH and one for my sister, plus register for a total of 8 races... Let's just say it was a bit much!

Had I known and had all accounts created and ready to go, I probably would have gotten that last RC.

I still say it's ridiculous that we need to do it this way. For every other race, I can register ALL adults and kids under my Active account. This is a choice Disney has made. All it does is make it less convenient. Next time I'll have DH and my sister do their own. How is this better for Disney or for us? Silly.

image.jpg Just saw this on Twitter... would have been a bit helpful for early registration... think they should mention one active acct per adult registering...

So the registration process has changed a bit? It's nice that they hold your spot for 15 minutes now. I know people complained about getting through the whole process only to find out that the race sold out while they were checking out.

Thanks for the heads up about every adult needing their own active account now.

For those who did early reg, was this process easier? faster? Any tips?

I thought it was easier, plus everyone doing regular registration has the benefit of knowing about the changes. My tip is to not freak out if you are "on hold". I kept checking back and the 5k opened up just long enough to get a spot for my daughter. Good luck!

If you're registering for one person, no big difference really.

If you're registering multiple adults it's worse/slower this year -- need separate Active accounts for each. Knowing this ahead should help some, but it's still worse to have to switch between accounts.

Still doable, I think, unless you're trying to register for 8 things like I was. ;)

Just joining it! I'm hoping to do the Rebel Challange if I can get in on Tuesday.

One question, I hope it hasn't already been answered....My son is a minor, does he need his own Active acct, or can I register him under mine? Will I have to do two separate transactions, or can I add him on during my registration?

You can register a minor under your account. I had to finish my registration, go back to the rD link, and register the kids one at a time. You stay logged into your Active account, so you don't have to repeat that part, but it's not like with other Active races where you can just hit "register another person" without going back to the rD link. Still doable. :)

After the disaster of Wine and Dine registration where there were a lot of people who only got part of their group registered before it sold out because they were trying to register multiple people, this puts the responsibility back on the individuals. My guess is they ended up having to let a number of people out of their registrations since others in their party didn't get in.

I agree that it puts the responsibility on the individuals. I don't think RunDisney ever guaranteed that your entire group of family/friends would get into any race. Offering refunds was a smart PR move, but I am not sure how likely it would be for them to do it again without changing their entire registration policy. No doubt that their registration policies will continue to evolve.
