Official "Not so new mommies" thread

I'd like to join, also! I have two boys: Austin 10 and Tyler 6.5. I hate to admit that we haven't taken them to Disney yet, but we are in the initial stages of planning their first trip this Fall. I joined this group in hopes of getting great Disney info and makeing some new friends! :thumbsup2

Yeah, that's about how long it will take to learn to duck and cover during diaper changes. :rolleyes1

Russ is March 16! I really wanted a St. Patty's baby. (Interestingly, he was conceived on the Fourth of July and originally due on Easter!)

We had a really rough night last night. DH was gone on a short trip and came home Friday evening. Russ went into hyper mode and WOULD NOT GO TO SLEEP. I ended up sleeping on the floor of his room at 12:30 am. Owie. Now I've got to drag the kitties to the vet for their flying health certificates, and wrangling Tycho into the carrier is not something anyone should ever have to do.

That is my DS's birthday as well, just a year later. :)

Can a non-mom, but aunt to 13 join in? I've not been blessed with children of my own, but my nieces & nephews are very special to me. I spend a lot of time with my 2 nieces who live in NY. I watch them when mom & dad go out of town, or when they have a class (they're working on advanced physical therapy degrees, not quite pHDs, but close). In fact, I will be watching them next weekend when mom & dad take a class. I also am a traveling aunt--when my sister in VA needs someone, I'll jump on the train & go there for a few days.

So anyway, because I spend so much time with the kids, they aren't always on their best behavior with me anymore, and I need advice on what to do. So if it's OK with you guys, I'd love to be able to join in. Besides, I must say, just looking at the beautiful pictures here is worth it. You guys have beautiful children!

I have been know to lock myself in the closet for a moments peace. I love the pics of the kids.
Hmm, locking myself in the closet! Now why didn't I think of that. Much easier than trying to cram all four kids in there. :thumbsup2
See this is why we need this thread, for great ideas like that. ;)

I have one DS, Nick, 2.5 but an currently trying for a second with no luck!!!!:sad1: I'm crossing my fingers for this month!!!!
1.gif
Crossing mine for you as well!!! :wizard:

She and I are going to a bridal show today, getting ready for my upcoming wedding. We are having some mom and daughter time!!!!
YAY for mother/daughter time. :cool1: And double YAY for the wedding!! Congrats!

Hi I am a long time lurker on these boards-- can I join? I have 2 kiddos....a dd who is 28 months and a ds who is 10 months. :) Yes, I have my hands full but I love every minute of it! :)
That's great! I have been there so I know how you feel. My son was about 23 months when my daughter was born. I remember how busy it was then!!

Of course, it only got busier when the twins were born and then I had a 5 year old, a 3 year old and two newborns to care for!!! :lmao:
It's was busy and when I wasn't crying along with the twins, lol, I knew how lucky we were. :)

Subscribing here! :goodvibes I'm the proud mom of my 'one and only' ds4 .:thumbsup2 I can't believe he's going to kindergarten this year..:sad2: Wasn't he supposed to be 4 forever?:lmao:
Awww. He may not be 4 forever, but he'll always be your baby.

I'll jump in!! I have five kids:

Caeleh 8
Kayd 6
Cullen 4
Kelton 4
Cian 2
Life is always busy here. Somdays I do not know where up is!!
Cute names!! And up is usually the direction you are looking when you collapse on your bed at the end of the day. Unless you fall face forward, which I wouldn't really recommend. Hurts the nose. :sad2: ;)

Kevin is my 7yo: comedian, cook, cub scout and all around good kid
Neil is my 10yo: he's got his challenges (Asperger's syndrome and an alphabet soup to go along), but underneath, he's got a heart of gold.
Love the first pic! What a great looking family. :)

When in the Fall? I bet they are over the moon happy to finally be going. How exciting for you all. :goodvibes

Not at all! I know how hard you work and how much time you spend with all those neices and nephews!! You are an honorary mom Missy.

Hi! Can I join y'all? I have one DD, Madeline who will be a big three year old in May, and a little boy due in April.

So I am a both a not so new mommy and a new mommy to be!

I'm in!! I have 2 DDs (9 and 7) and DS is 4. No Disney trip planned any time soon, but DD has been invited w/ family friends for a few days during President's Week, and I am horrifically jealous!!

Clarabelle --I didn't (still don't..) understand boys either, but he sure is a
joy:) .

We also have a Golden Retriever (Hugo), and the barn is home to 2 chickens and a cat! Lots of mouths and schedules to keep up w/, so I'm happy to have some moral support!

Are you taking the kittens flying? Have you ever flown with a pet before? How hard is it? If you put a treat in there can you get him to go in better? We left the carrier out for a while and ours would just explore it and didn't mind it so much. Not that we took him out much. He is 13 years old now and is one grumpy old cat.

They're flying to NJ with Russ and me next week - the second time for them! It's not too terribly hard. We fly Alaska and they take really good care of pets. The hardest part is getting them in and out of the carriers. Tycho fights it, even with treats, and Wedge just goes in 16 pounds of dead weight. Last time, we had to take them out in the airport (in a closed room!) to prove we weren't smuggling drugs with them, and Wedge just flat out wouldn't be moved. The airport dude gave up and assumed a woman with two cranky cats and a 7-week old baby wouldn't smuggle drugs. :rolleyes1 It's a lot easier to drive them, but obviously a cross-country car trip isn't in the cards right now!

:rotfl: :lmao: Too funny.

Missy, will you be my sister? My kids could use an aunt like you. :thumbsup2

I was the good aunt to my nieces and nephews before I had kids. I am pretty lucky, because now they help me out with the young kids. They are great with them. They are great kids too.

Speaking of boys, maybe some of you moms can help me out. Why is it little boys have to be constantly "messing with each other". You know what I mean, touching, pushing, hitting, poking, pulling on any other boy with in 2 feet of them. I was helping out in DD's K classroom yesterday and they had a sub for the 1st hour. I was so sick of those boys I was about to put them all in time out.

I was telling 15 year old niece that I don't know what it is about 5 year old boys, she said "not just 5 year old's, boys in general." :rotfl: When does it stop? Shortly after they get married?

I don't know what is is about boys! My neighbors all have little boys, five of them between June 2004-May 2005. The five of them are constantly fighting. (But fighting "well" - no biting or smacking, just, well, being boys.) We cracked up the time one of the dads tried to put his kid in time out and the other two that were there ganged up on the dad until the kid was released from punishment....just so Russ and the other kid could wrestle with the punished kid again. :rotfl:

Wow, cool to see all the kiddos and descriptions of more kiddos.

Missy, I'd LOVE it if my sister would drive down to watch the boys for me. :) Of my 8 siblings, there's only one who I'd ask to watch them (well, 2, but one's legally blind and it'd be hard on her). They're all in NY/NJ.

Katerkat, enjoy that time with the the family. Saw your other thread, it's cool that you'll be able to exchange clothes with your sister.

I suppose I'm lucky, because of Neil's isues, my two don't get very physical with each other, but I do agree that the boys tend to be more on top of each other-witness it weekly with the cub scouts.

Clarabelle, you'll get used to a boy really fast. I'm glad I've got two and realized it was the best thing for me.

Glinda, you've come to the right place to find out about that trip. We'd love details!

The :goodvibes smiley is okay, but the :cloud9: gives me the heebee jeebies. Don't knwo why :confused3

CKmommy, sounds like you've got some Celtic blood coursing through your family! We went with irish names, but DH talked me out of using the more traditional names-he didn't want names mispronounced all their lives.

Ok, those who wonder about boys. Neil's playing Lego Star Wars 2 and came out with this morsel of info "Did you know that Grand Moff Tarkin can show his butt?". Oh the fun!

Taking Neil over to Busch Gardens for a couple of hours while Ed (my DH) and Kevin go see Monster Trucks in Orlando. It's far too noisy for Neil, as he's got sensory issues. This way, everybody wins.

Tampa's got Gasparilla today, kinda like Mardi Gras. That's over on the other side of town, and I expect that Busch will be quieter than normal. The only down side I see right now is that I'm on a new med for pain that I can't drink at all-no free beer for me. I will however, have a coaster buddy. :teeth:

Hello Mommies!!!

I see there are quite a few families like us....we have a 10 year old DS, Kyle, (who turns 11 on March 5TH) And a 15 month old DD, Savannah, princess:

People always ask how far apart are they? 9 1/2 years!! but not for lack of trying on our part. It just took that long!!!! Glad to see others are back in the mommy game. I wouldn't trade it for anything!:thumbsup2

Not a mommy, yet, but look forward to joining once Gianna (or Isabella  ) comes home :goodvibes .

I just had to say to Suzanne - your sons are GORGEOUS!!!! Oh my gosh... absolute heartbreakers

Thank you for the warm welcome! I always read parenting threads because I spend so much time with the kids. In fact, everyone wants me to be an aunt to their kids, I wish I could!

The two who live in NY are Samantha, who just turned 8 & Dana who was 4 in August. Their mom is my baby sister. The VA kids that I watch are Jake, who's 8, Maggie who's 6 & Matt who turns 3 on Feb. 21st. Their mom is my sister, she's the next to youngest. (there are 6 kids in my family, 2 boys, 4 girls.) The others are Sean & Joe, who just turned 16 this week, Mary who was 12 last June (my older brother's 3 kids) & my younger brother's 5 kids: Luke who was 10 last April, Hannah who will be 9 in March, Simon & Jude were 5 last July & Regina was a year old in November. I really don't watch my brother's kids, but I have changed plenty of diapers, given baths & some of the other mommy tasks with my older brother's kids. In fact, I've been to Disney World, Disneyland, Sea World (Orlando & San Diego) & an Alaskan cruise with my older brother & his family. I've been to Disney World with Samantha & Dana.

And there are different kinds of challenges when you're an aunt & not mom. Sometimes they're kind of funny: the 5 youngest love to 'dress' me up. They like to do my hair, put little girl makeup on me, etc. They used to want me to get married so they could go to a party. I told them I didn't have a nice man to marry, so they decided they would find someone for me. Do they find me a nice guy? No, they decide I should 'marry' Dana's stuffed Donkey (from Shrek, this is one of those pillow size stuffed animals). Any time I sat down that weekend, they would put him next to me & say "you may kiss the groom!". I think they watch too much tv.....:rotfl:

Hi everybody! This is a good idea, the not-so-new mom's thread! I have 3 kids... Bryan is 12, Molly is 2, and Abigail is 1. I'll be lurking around once I finish reading what I've missed so far!

So for all of you mommies with more than one...do you find that you had a "practice" child and then a younger child (children?):lmao: I think it's funny how much we change the way we handle more than one....first child, hundreds of pics, second..lucky to get holidays. First child, straight to the doc if they sneeze, second...no loss of conciousness, no blood they'll be fine! First child drops the binkie, it's carefully tucked away until it can be sanitized, second you stick it in your own mouth to get rid of anything too toxic and give it back....

Not a mommy, yet, but look forward to joining once Gianna (or Isabella  ) comes home :goodvibes .

I just had to say to Suzanne - your sons are GORGEOUS!!!! Oh my gosh... absolute heartbreakers

Welcome!

Do you have any estimation or time line when it might be? :cool1:

Kim, thanks for the comments about my boys. They work the cute, trust me! Kevin loves his curls and won't cut them very often. He'll tell you his curls are cute.

I like the name Gianna. I have a nephew Gianni, so I suppose I'm partial to it. :teeth:

lil mermaid, April's a great time to have a baby. Neil's b'day is the 17th and it was nice to be able to take him for walks outside relatively quick. How does Madeline feel about becoming a big sister?

Missy, the bright spot of being an aunt is that you can give them back when they're being pains in the tukkus. I got a lot of practice with tne nieces and nephews. In fact, my eldest sister's kids are only 6 and 7 years younger and more like siblings than she is.

Lara, I had the sibling's kids to be 'practice kids'. My peds told me I didn't act like a first time mom, lol. However, when Kevin came along, I thought he was much easier because I knew what I was doing-we didn't get Neil's diagnosis until 2 years later. So I did have 'practice kids', but they were before my own!

LOL ooooooh yes! I know exactly what you mean. That is totally the way it was with my first 2. It should be interesting what #3 will end up with. The main thing I have noticed is that after the first one you realize that you don't need half the baby stuff that you thought you needed for the first one AND you aren't scared to buy it second hand! I have bought most of #3s stuff (except the car seat) at thrift and consignment shops and on clearance at Gymboree.
