*****Official February 2015 Thread! Come check in and chat!*****

We all bring one large suitcase, two smaller carry on suitcases and two back packs. We also put a soft duffle bag into one of the suitcases just in case we buy too much. We have had to purchase an extra bag on more than one occasion in the past so we have learned to be prepared now. :rotfl2:

We normally have 2 checked bags. But I am worried with all of our son's stuff we'll have to bring 3. Yuck. I am trying to downsize my stuff as much as possible. My husband is better at packing so I am going to put all of my stuff in the guest room and just let him try to get it all packed into 2 bags, if possible. I really don't see it happening though since we need so much stuff for our son.

Yay!

I always try and cram everything into small suitcases but I always give up and remember that as long as they are under the weight limit it does not matter how big our cases are!

Make sure to roll each clothing item - saves room and stops them creasing
Shove knickers, socks and small kids clothes into any shoes you pack - saves even more room
If you pack long boots, you would be surprised how much clothing can be jammed in them - saving more room

MY daughter conned me into buying a larger bag than I needed, so she can put her shopping in mine AND she has already packed one smallish suitcase into her big one, so as to fill that with more shopping.

We are flying Jet Blue so we get a free checked bag. So not cost difference. I just am given a hard time about the amount of luggage we take by our friend who takes us to the airport.

2 years ago we had flown to Michigan in the summer with 2 connections that were fairly close, each way. Luggage was fine.

We then flew direct to SNA from PDX (Portland). Alaska forgot to put my luggage on board. Lucky we had packed extra clothes in Carryond and my dtrs suitcase that made it had the toiletries. The bag arrived by the time I got up the next morning and was at the bell hop.

Couldn't believe the time my luggage doesn't make it was a direct flight.

Our checked bags are free on Southwest, I think. So cost isn't an issue. But we're already lugging so much junk (checked bags, carry-on bags, car seat, stroller) that adding another suitcase just kind of annoys me. Such is life, though.

I always forget that rolling is better. Thanks for the reminder. I'll tell my husband to do things that way.

About the mugs...someone on Instagram (so take that for what it's worth) said that stores were stocking a set amount each day and once they are gone, they're gone. Then they restock the next morning. Not sure if it's true, but just in case, we may look for mugs early in the day.

That's what I had read (you just explained it better than me lol)! Hopefully it's true!

When I was pregnant I had to fly from Canada to South Africa to see my grandmother one more time. It was January so here in Victoria it was around 5-10C and in Cape Town it was close to 40C. I packed two suitcases, one with my clothes and one with gifts for family. Guess which one the airline lost for 4 days? I landed in Cape Town wearing maternity jeans and a long sleeved maternity shirt with no other clothes at all. The only person I knew there who had been pregnant was my cousin who is 5 ft 9 to my 5 ft 2. :rotfl:

A very rapid trip to the mall was in order!

This was after I managed to find the only summer maternity clothes in Victoria. :headache:

I should have said, we all bring one large suitcase EACH. Ours are free on WestJet, so we take full advantage of that.

Wow that sounds rough.

Good luck to all of us on luggage arrival.

I am bringing a Frozen carry on for DD, a regular carry on for myself, a laptop bag (underseat storage) which I will carry my laptop and iPad mini so I can still work as necessary (being self employed, I still have to be able to respond to emails from potential and current clients), and then I will have one large checked bag which I will put in cereal bars, as well as use that to put our winter coats into (taking light jackets for when in CA).

Also going to bring a backpack (in checked bag) for carrying a change of clothes for DD, water bottles and snacks and anything else I see on the boards that I feel would be a good idea to carry in it.

Bought DD new Frozen shoes today with hopes that wearing them around the house between now and departure date will get them comfortable for her to wear at DLP.

When we wake tomorrow, it all gets REAL...with only 29 days until we go.

I am getting excited, and nervous too.

Why nervous?? Well, I have never flown with DD before or traveled anywhere more than a 1.5 hour drive away from home...so...I can see myself overpacking for her especially being a guy and packing for a child and a female child at that, where for me, for the 5 days I probably could get away with just a carry on.

You sound like a very nice and thoughtful daddy. Am sure you both will have a great flight and vacation.
Don't forget to ask for your first visit buttons at DLR.

Hey everybody :wave2:

My mom, DD, and I will be there Feb 25-March 1.

Any recommendations for transport from LGB to DLH?

Thanks so much!!

Hi! We are going to DL for the first time and we are using Lansky's car service from LAX to GCH. I heard rave reviews about them here on the DIS. They will even stop at the grocery store if you want :)

How old is your daughter?

This is our first trip with our son. He's 16 months. The farthest he's gone is a 30 minute car ride. And he's never slept anywhere but our house. So we're stressed.

In glad we hashed out the castle last month. Now that it's happening, I feel much more like oh well, moving on, about it. But if this was my first time hearing about it, that'd be tough to swallow!

We are still going to get a family picture taken in front of the tarp. Anyone else? It's our son's first trip so I think when he's older he will have a good laugh about it.

My daughter is 5yo and very much a little princess. She has done a 3 hour return drive once and with her iPad she was really good. But to be confined to a chair for 3.5 hours??? I am not sure how she will be on the plane, especially after I am getting her up at 4:30 AM for the flight to LAX...and that darn 2 hour hurry up and wait period at the airport before boarding.

Just so many things to think about, and plan for.

Thank you Gisele. I do try to be as much as I can.

Buttons are on our list :)
