Official Disney Geek here and friends don't get it

I think I hear it a lot since my wife I don't have kids yet, and that we live on the opposite side of the country.

So today my friend was visiting (haven't seen her in a while), and I told her about my upcoming trip to Florida. She asked if we were visiting family and I said no we are going to Disney.

She says....

"Haven't you already been to Disney?":scared1:

Well that was the first time that has happened to me

I didn't tell her that I was already planning when a good time for my trip after the upcoming one should be. Or how much I think Disney everyday. I don't think she would understand,

But I know you all would :cloud9: :grouphug:

Been there done that.
I can't even talk about Walt Disney World without hearing,"NO DISNEY,PLEASE." .
My friends don't understand why I love Disney so much.
That's why I keep it to myself.

But to me Disney isn't a place,it's a home<3.
That's why I come here to share my passion with others, but I wish I had friends in real that shared the same passion.

My whole family loves Disney, and my sister is leaving for Disney on Sunday to become a cast member.
We are planning to visit her in the Spring.

Same here, Im on my count down at work. I hold morning meetings and part of my meetings now, is how many days till Im on vacation. Now that Im down to less than 30 days, I add a bit of Disney trivia. Most dont get it. A couple do that have small kids and have been lately.
However, the moment any of them want to go, they seem to come to me for advice. Hmmm.

I have a mickey tattoo on my ankle. When I got it I was what felt like forever being teased by my friends that it was them brainwashing me.
Good times.

I know what you mean about brainwashing. It's not true but few understand. DH says I'm addicted to "Dis-crack" and need an intervention! :rotfl: But he's truly my Prince Charming and indulges my squeals of delight when I encounter something new on Disboards! (I know he could care less) At least DD and close friends of ours are obsessed, so I have a little bit of an outlet, but I don't want to wear them out. When it comes to Disney, I'm seriously intense!!!:yay: So I seek refuge in the boards. I really like the suggestion to remind ridiculers that I don't rib them about their obsession (music, sports, etc.) and my love of Disney is no different. Great suggestion. :thumbsup2 Well, at least we all have eachother! :mickeyjum

I found myself recently grilled by a dad at our school on how crazy I am to go back. It caught me off guard and not sure what to say. I said "Actually, we are going 4 times this year" His eyes bugged out of his head and I walked away.

One of my closest friends questions my sanity daily and just accepts that I am a Disney freak and moves on.

I am self professed Disney Geek and have stopped making apologies for it.

I personally dont understand people who ski. It's cold. It's expensive. It can be dangerous. You have to have special equipment. Etc.

That being said.....it a gabillion dollar industry, an Olympic sport, there are magazines devoted to it, people buy ski chalets....you get the idea.

(if you are a skier feeling the urge to start a letter that begins Dear Kevin......resist the urge. I'm just making a point. It's ok with me if you spend every dollar you earn skiing. Really.)

My point is (ready skiers?) that I dont need to understand your desire to ski any more than you need to understand my desire to ride "it's a small world" for the 5,000th time.

It's what makes me happy and that's what I tell people.

Count me as proud member (since 1971) of the Disney Geek Squad.

5,000th time! :sad2:

.

I know the feeling. I spend 18 months planning our 1st Disney trip. I learned as much as I could. People teased me, including my DH. Now I'm helping 3 people at work plan their first trip. As for DH, after our 1st night in Disney he gave me a hug and said, "Thank you." It was so sweet. He finally appreciated all the hours I had spent planning. I am tearing up now just thinking about it.

people dont seem to understand that its an outlet. i was just watching on youtube opening day to disneyland, and the guy with the mic said how the disneyland railroad encloses the park so you are totally seperate from the world around you, so all that you see and do is disney. that feeling of just relaxation, not being able to worry about anything but what the wait time for splash mountain is or where your next counter service meal is at. disney world is such an escape for me, and so is disney. i get stressed; i turn on my ipod and singalong to the 199 disney songs i have. its my way of letting go of what stresses me out, and what makes me upset. some people like to get wrapped up in a book and forget about the world, well i like to get wrapped up in vacation planning dvds, old passporters and of course disboards! it is really frustrating sometimes how people are so judgemental of my family's disney obsession, but most of the time theyre just jealous that they cant vacation as much as we do. not necessarily disney vacations, but vacations in general. going to disney world twice a year is such a get aaway, esp where i'm from.:dance3:

I guess I'm lucky! My coworkers were actually "Wait! Aren't you going to Disney this year?" Between the Med cruise last year and the hugely expensive ABD this year, I decided to skip the trip to WDW last year. It confused the heck out of them... :goodvibes

Sayhello

My BFF of almost 20 years hates all things Disney. She thinks Disney as a corporation is evil, refuses to see any of the movies, hates the "Fake happiness", etc. She will never go to Disney and she certainly doesn't understand why I like to go. I basically stopped telling her when I plan a trip, because I get the "Why don't you go somewhere else?" question. I tell her when I see everything there that I want to see, I'll stop going. :rotfl:

What I don't get is how people question this when they won't blink an eyelash if someone goes to Vegas at least once a year. What's so different about the vacation destinations you enjoy?

I think what would really blow the minds of the naysayers would be to book golf for them (if they are golf obsessed), the spa, the fishing excursions, or the Richard Petty experiences. Or bring them around the Food and Wine Festival, or Star Wars Weekends, if that floats their boat.

I would also question them, "Have you been to Disney? If so, when?" Mainly because things change over the years, there's plenty of new experiences as well as reliving the "old" ones.

Because I mentioned different times of year, I can use 2010 as a prime example about why it can be a different experience each time. In July, I had Summer Nightastic to enjoy, and the parks were open way later than I'm usually used to. In October, I go for the Food and Wine Festival, and I can be mostly in Epcot and have a good time. And in December, I loved seeing all the bells and whistles at the parks and resorts that I can't experience at other times of the year.

I think the naysayers don't "get" it because they really never experienced it the way we have.

I enjoy the podcast and the boards alot. But would love to have someone around me that was a fanatic. Most of the people around me just don't get it
