Pat Anderson is still the cake lady. I just spoke with her today. I ordered a 6 inch heart shaped, fondant anniversary cake. Its chocolate filled with dark chocolate mousse and fresh rasberries. It's going to have gold stamped mickey headsall over it, topped with white chic Minnie and mickey. She's also haveing 5 tuxedo strawberries and a bottle of the fairytale champagne waiting for us at our table at Narcoossees. Its for our 10th wedding anniversary. Our dinner is Sept 6th.

I ordered a 6 inch cake for after our wedding to be delivered to the Grand Floridian Cafe. I told her I'd like buttercream outside, hints of lime, hot pink and aqua swirls and hidden mickeys, fondant balls rimming the bottom and a mickey hat topper--she's splitting the 4 layers between his choice of yellow cake and dark choc mousse--and my choice of choc cake and pb cup mousse. Her quote was $189... it better be the most amazing cake ever, lol. will post pictures when we have them!!

Oh boy - I am going to order a mini-wedding cake for after our wedding (we're having an intimate wedding) and I hope it's not that much. If it costs that much, I agree, it had better be the best cake ever!

Aha! What a wonderful, informative blog (much easier to read & understand than to try to make it through the couple hundred pages of this thread, lol). Thank you so, so much!!:goodvibes

Glad I could help! :)

Hi! We are staying at the YC in about 3 weeks & I am thinking about ordering a cake for delivery to our room. I could swear a few months ago I read that different cake flavors might be available, specifically red velvet. Now when I follow the link on page 1 & in lurky loo's posts, it only lists chocolate & yellow cakes. So has anyone been able to order a different flavor lately?

I don't want fondant; was hoping for a 6 or 8 inch red velvet with cream cheese or buttercream frosting decorated with frosting type flowers. Planning on calling in the next few days. What do you think my odds are to get red velvet? Thanks!

Slim...? The GF and Contemporary have been known to do red velvet, but usually the other bakeries balk at specialty flavors. Still, you never know til you ask—go for it! :thumbsup2

Ok, ladies, I think I've done my homework. But if you guys could just give me the thumbs up, I'd appreciate it :thumbsup2

We'll be eating lunch at the Grand Floridian Cafe on my parents' 39th wedding anniversary. I'd like to order the mini wedding cake, without the fancy decorations, just piped with Mickey heads would be great! I call the Grand Floridian at 407-824-1951, a couple weeks before our lunch, and order "the mini wedding cake, white cake, chocolate buttercream, piped with Mickey heads."

Sound like a plan? Have I researched enough?! There's too much good info in this thread and I kept getting sidetracked looking at pics!

Sounds good! They might tell you they don't offer "white" cake, but if "vanilla" is OK for you, you're all set.

:cutie: Can't wait to see it!

Mini-cakes range from $25-$45 and serve 1 or 2 people; what LuvLuvLuv ordered is a full-sized, 6-inch cake that serves 6 to 8 people. :thumbsup2

Do you know if the mini-cakes are available in different cake flavors and fillings? DF is picky when it comes to his desserts. :stir: I will be ordering it from the GF as that's where we are staying & dining.

I need to get pics up of my DS's b-day cake.

We came home from the CR on 8/10 and I had ordered a Mad Hatter style Alice in Wonderland themed cake for delievery in our room on our arrival date (8/4) while we were in dinner.

When we walked in the door after supper my son (18th birthday) was absolutely THRILLED to see the cake. Unfortunately, we had problems with the AC in the room, and it was over 82 degrees in there when we got back at around 9:30 p.m.

The white chocolate decorations were....ummm....melting, and had fallen over. When I cut the cake, I managed to get two pieces out and then the whole thing just "self destructed." Completely just fell down. I managed to catch the bulk of it before it hit the carpeting, but it was basically unsalvageable.

I thought the AC issue was fixed when we went to bed, but alas, it went out again while we were sleeping. I went down to the front desk in the morning to request maintenence come up and fix it ASAP as we had only gotten a couple of hours of sleep. Somewhere in the midst of my exhausted rambling, I mentioned in passing about the poor untimely demise of the amazingly beautiful cake thanks to the wonky AC.

The desk clerk immediately got the duty manager, who came out and spoke to me. She was so VERY upset about our sleepless night that she insisted on crediting us for the one night's lodging and for the cost of the cake. I told her it was unnecessary to offer full credit as we actually managed to get two nice sized pieces before the Great Cakeavalanche of 2011. But, she insisted that for the cost of cake, it wasn't unreasonable to expect it to survive for two hours if our AC hadn't cut out on us.

Anyway...the cake was beautiful, and would've been a true work of art if it hadn't melted in the brutal non-AC'd Florida heat....and the flavor was absolutely amazing. I wouldn't hesitate to order a specialty cake from the CR again, and if by some quirk of bad fate, you have an issue like I did...don't hesitate to politely let the front desk staff know. I found them to be wonderful in resolving my problem. Of course, I think the poor duty manager thought I was going to be a raving lunatic...but (1) I was at Disney (2) I was working on about 6 hours of sleep in 48 hours and couldn't work up a good rage, and (3) They resolved my problem in a generous and heartfelt way.

I'll do my best to get pictures up soon.

When I ordered mine at the GF, my only choices were vanilla cake with white chocolate mousse or chocolate cake with chocolate mousse for a mini cake. They may let you do a fruit mousse with one of those kinds of cake, since it's one of their standard options. But be ready to press the issue. :thumbsup2

Well that was my original plan... 2 mini cakes. She told me the mini cakes don't come with filling.... just the outside fondant/buttercream and cake inside :confused3 This wasn't appealing to me which is why I am spending 2 weeks grocery budget on a 6 inch :( I hope you're able to work something out!!!

Does anyone know if they do screen printing @ Yacht/BC? I want to order DH a cake for his 40th bd on our upcoming trip. We are staying @ BC and our first ADR is @ Yachtsman on arrival day. I thought it would be most convenient to have it delivered there so we aren't hiking leftovers all over the place. Plus that would give us the whole week to snack on it.

I am thinking I'd like a cake screen printed with Kermit the Frog, as DH loves the Muppets. I thought having something like "It's not easy being green...or turning 40!" would be cute.

If it's not available @ Yacht/BC, any ideas where I can call. We have ADR's pretty much everywhere including Cali Grill.

Thanks!

I was able to get Muppets screen-printed at DHS. It could have been any restaurant at DHS, but I picked Mama Melrose. It was $32. I asked for a bunch of muppets -- I'm sure you could be more specific. I posted it earlier:

Weird. The minicake I ordered from the Grand Floridian had white chocolate mousse in it!

Maybe she meant that you can't do fancy fillings?:confused3 I would just hate for you to have to spend more than you want to due to confusing info...

All the bakeries can do screen printing. :thumbsup2

That cake looks great for the price. :thumbsup2 The screen print cakes I've see haven't looked that good, but this is the first one I've seen from DHS. Hopefully, all of their cakes look that good.

I just wanted to confirm ... based on lurkyloo's cake FAQ the jedi Mickey cake topper is only available from the Yacht Club/BC bakery? If this is the case it is so frustrating. I don't get why one would have it and none of the others. My DH is a huge SW fan & I want to get him a jedi Mickey cake for his birthday. Our dinner that day is at 'Ohana. We have no other ADR's during our trip that would allow me to get a cake from the YC bakery (it would have to be either GF or CR based on our ADR's). Is there no way the GF bakery would have one sent over? (just grasping at straws here!)

Yes, and it was delicious! :thumbsup2 Mine was all chocolate, but I actually got the idea of ordering at Mama's through a previous posting on this thread. It was a vanilla silk screen. The cakes seem much cheaper at DHS than anywhere else.

I can't find it on the list of cakes (or mine :) ) so here's a copy of the other post ...

In June we celebrated my grandson's 12th birthday at Disney. We had dinner Mama Melrose at DHS during Sar Wars Weekend. I called the cake hotline about 2 week prior to our trip and ordered a custom cake for him. I had my choice of either chocolate or vanilla (I chose the vanilla since it is his favorite). They said they could screen print the top of the cake to decorate it and I told them to use something Star Wars since he is such a big fan. The cake was wonderful - it tasted sooo good and was beautifully decorated. It was vanilla cake and between the tiers was a yummy custard filling. The cake was frosted with what tasted like white chocolate and was then decorated with a screen print of Darth Vader, Mickey sprinkles, and white chocolate shavings. The cost was about $32 and was added to our dinner tab. It was money well spent. They also provided us with a cakebox to take the leftovers back to our resort. My grandson LOVED it! Here is a picture of the cake - the picture doesn't do it justice though!

Location: California Grill
Date: August 2011
Price: $125 (plus Tables in Wonderland discount since the cake was added to the California Grill dinner bill)
8” round, Marble cake with Bailly’s mousse (this what the top layer of our wedding cake)

DH and I had a Disney wedding on 8/9/10 with a reception in the Napa Room so we decided to have dinner on 8/9/11 at California Grill to celebrate. We didn’t save and freeze the top layer of our wedding cake since our wedding was followed by a honeymoon at Disney and transporting a week old cake to freeze for a year didn't seem like a good plan. We did eat our top layer during our honeymoon though.

So I scoured the web for months looking for ideas for an anniversary cake. About 2 weeks before, I called the cake hotline and was given Chef Brian’s email at the Contemporary. We emailed back and forth a few times. I gave some directions and attached a few inspiration photos. I wanted a champagne inspired, celebration cake with some hidden mickey and pink and gold champagne "bubbles" since those were our wedding colors.

Since I didn’t recreate our top layer visually, I did stick with what our top was:
Marble cake and Bailly’s Mousse. There was no extra charge for these flavors.

I was very happy with the entire experience. The cake design was exactly what I wanted (actually even better), had that "wow factor" since it was a surprise design for my hubby and the cake itself was so fresh and wonderful! We ate it for the rest of the week and it was still delicious.

They boxed up the cake, including the topper (which was white chocolate). The topper is currently in our fridge.
