Hi there

I'd like to order a cake for August 29th - we arrive in Orlando on August 11th. Do you think I would be OK going to the Poly and ordering it there, or does it have to be ordered on the 'phone? Its for a dinner at Ohana's.

Also - does anyone know if the buttercream on the cakes contain raw eggs? In America you seem to make buttercream differently to us English folk! And I need to check as I'm pregnant and unable to eat raw eggs!

Thanks!

From what I can tell, the frosting Disney uses doesn't have raw eggs. It's just a regular buttercream and not a Swiss meringue buttercream which uses egg whites.

I'm a baker and food blogger so I thought I'd clarify about frostings. :)

Buttercream doesn't have egg whites. Most cakes use this type of frosting. It's just shortening, butter, powdered sugar, salt, heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract.

Swiss meringue buttercream has egg whites. They're heated and then whipped. It has a softer whipped texture. One poster called it classic buttercream but I've never heard it referred to as classic buttercream. :)

From the cakes I've had from Disney, I can tell that the frosting used is just regular buttercream and doesn't have egg whites.

You're a blogger and baker so you should know that Swiss meringue buttercream or French buttercream is what most bakers and pâtissiers consider traditional, classic buttercream and that is what I was referring to. It can be made with egg whites, yolks or whole eggs depending upon the recipe. Stating that "traditional/classic" buttercream is not made with eggs is wrong and in this instance misleading to a woman who needs to know for sure.

What you called "buttercream" is exactly what I explained in one of my previous posts. This is what most Americans call buttercream. Most trained, real bakers and pâtissiers wouldn't let their creations near that recipe.

As I said earlier, though I doubt Disney uses a traditional buttercream a phone call is probably in order. :)

I can't believe I never shared my photos of my birthday cake from last year. It's a mad hatter style cake with an alice in wonderland theme. It was delivered to my room at the Grand Floridian. I'll share the photos today! :wizard: It was sooooo good!

Here's my Alice in Wonderland cake from my birthday last year! :cool1:

Price: over $200. I caught a glimpse of the receipt (from check out) but my mama wouldn't let me know the exact cost!
Date Received: May 6th, 2010
Location: Grand Floridian room service
Cake info: Mad Hatter style cake with five layers of cake. Yum!
Marble cake with custard filling and vanilla buttercream
My mama requested an Alice in Wonderland themed mad and asked for it to be whimsical.
I LOVED it. Photos don't do this cake justice. It was gorgeous and my mama said Pat was a pleasure to work with.

The flavor was amazing and the characters and background are made of white chocolate.

Will Disney bakeries (specifically, Brian at the Contemporary) do any Star Wars themed cakes that don't feature the Jedi Mickey? I have some ideas for a Star Wars cake, but none of them involve Mickey and all involve replicating the Star Wars logo. I was just wondering if they had any issues with this. I've searched for a couple of hours, and it seems the only references I've seen to Star Wars cakes on the Dis involve Jedi Mickey. It's cute, but not what I have in mind.

I've seen a screen-printed picture of Darth Vadar on one of the cakes sent to a Hollywood Studios restaurant but if you mean something more 3 dimensional, I believe it has to do with copyright and who has the proper molds. Lurkyloo would probably know the best answer:goodvibes

The only Disney-related characters they can't do are Pooh and friends. Just know that the Star Wars elements will probably be screen-printed on the cake or on white chocolate and then cut out and attached to the cake. They can't, like, create Han Solo out of fondant or anything....

They can't? My plans for a Wookie covered anniversary cake are RUINED! :lmao:

We re thinking of getting a cake made at the Boardwalk bakery as we want something we can pick up at either our resort or directly from the bakery.

Was wondering just how creative though are the cake designers at the Boardwalk Bakery? Do they tend to just create the Mickey Head cakes & more standard designs or are they open to creating something unique like Gfs bakery?
Can you also pick from a selection of fillings from BWs bakery or do they tend to just use certain fillings?

We re hoping to get a cake made with Bambi as the theme :thumbsup2

Hi all. Some friends and I are going to WDW in mid-August. One of my friends will have his birthday right before we leave, so I want to surprise him with a cake there.

He loves Star Wars, and I saw a cute Jedi Mickey cake on the thread (and on the WDW website). Where is the best place to order this cake?

Also we'll be staying at the Dolphin Hotel. Does anyone know whether cakes ordered from the hotline can be delivered to the Dolphin hotel?

thank you!

Hmm...We are taking my dad in october, he has never been to disney, so DH & I want to make it special..
Our first night, we have a ressie at California Grill, and are planning on getting dad a super -duper "welcome to disney " cake..

Here's what I am thinking in terms of design..please tell me if this is silly or crazy..:surfweb:
My pop is a musician..(Saxophone).
So we are thinking of a total disneyfied cake, (mickey, donald, goofey, etc...with some sort of saxophone theme that states "welcome to disney dad- Keep on Jamming".....

Thoughts??

I think that sounds great! They could probably do a chocolate sax with the characters! :thumbsup2

I heard back from Chef Brian at the Contemporary: Disney does not use raw eggs in their buttercream frosting due to spoilage concerns with Florida weather.

:thumbsup2

We will be visiting in August and celbrating my daughter's 13th birthday. We will be doing the Birthday Celebration Cruise and leaving from Wilderness Lodge. Will we be able to order a custom cake from here or can we have one delivered? I didn't realize there were so many different options for cakes. Would love to get something special for her. Thanks.

Here's the info on cake availability at Wilderness Lodge: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=40915598#post2413710

Here's an example of a fancy cake made recently by the BoardWalk Bakery: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=41710898&postcount=2640

Their flavors are listed in the BoardWalk Bakery entry of this FAQ: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=40915598#post2413710

Only the Yacht & Beach Club Bakery makes white chocolate Jedi Mickeys, and you must be staying or dining there to order one. Well, they will also deliver to Epcot restaurants. But the Dolphin is not owned by Disney, so the Cake Hotline doesn't apply. You need to contact Yacht & Beach Club Private Dining directly to find out what your options are for delivery. I'm thinking they won't deliver to a non-Disney-owned resort, but you never know: 407-934-3105

I love looking at all these cakes! So many ideas! I have a question though. We are staying at WL in October, and celebrating DD's 3rd birthday. I want to order her a fancy fondant cake, but was wondering what the smallest cake they will decorate is? There will only be 4 of us, 3 adults and my DD, so we really don't need a huge cake. :confused3 Can we order a custom 6" cake?

I want to either order it for our room, or at 1900 Park Fare, CRT, or Akershus. She really loves the princesses! princess:

Also, I know you can order the white chocolate 3d characters, but I was wondering if anyone knew what size they were? Thanks so much for any help!
