The Steamboat Willie cake is fabulous!!!

Thanks! It turned out just as I imagined... better, probably, since I'm no pastry chef!:rotfl2:

That Steamboat Willie cake had me at "peanut butter filling". It looks great too!

Ironically, I hate peanut butter filling (but it's my DHs fave).... let me tell you, this cake almost made me a convert. The cake though was the key, perfect, moist, not too dry or sweet. You could tell they use good chocolate in the mix.

Silly question, but I'm pretty cake-clueless even though we've ordered two on previous trips... Is it possible to bring in really intense colors without using fondant? It doesn't have to be all over, but at least as accents? I'm thinking I'd like to order a skull-and-crossbones themed cake with an orange and black color scheme (the birthday boy's football team logo & colors) but fondant is probably out of the budget.

They probably can as longas you're looking for just the colors and not any specific decorations. They can probably do different colors dyed buttercreme (like orange, w/ black piping. You'll want to call the cake hotline and give them an overview and tell them you want to avoid fondant. HTH.:thumbsup2

jenneth79, I'm sooooo glad your Steamboat Willie cake turned out the polar opposite of the one I got from Chef Brian/CR bakery last November.

Pretty stark contrast, huh? I only asked for a Steamboat Willie cake, make it fabulous, and left the design to the professionals. I gave no budget so the sky was the limit. Boy was I --> and not in a good way when I saw it...because I was expecting awesomeness along the lines of what you had. So congrats to you on your good fortune!

OK, I'm a little disappointed right now. We need our cake for October 17th. I emailed Chef Brian **exactly** two weeks in advance (on Monday, the 3rd) and never got a response. So I decided to call Private Dining instead. Tried Private Dining at the WL where we're staying...and got a busy signal several times yesterday. Call Private Dining again today, got through, and told the woman I'd like to order a cake. She told me I could just order at the restaurant podium. I told her, no, I was calling for a custom cake. And she proceeded to tell me what my options were--white or chocolate, etc. She asked the size. I said 6 inch, she told me that they don't make 6 inch cakes. I told her that "a friend" just had a six inch custom cake made a few weeks ago and so I know I can have one made. She told me they can only do a screen print on an 8 or 10 inch cake. I sat there perplexed, not sure how to proceed, and she finally told me that I could call the Contemporary and gave me the number.

**See, I thought that I could have my order entered into the system by calling WL private dining since that's where I'm staying, but apparently that's not right. If you're ordering from the Contemporary, you apparently have to call there directly, regardless of where you're staying.

So I call the Contemporary...and get voicemail. They finally called back a few hours later and they immediately give me Chef Brian's email, told me to work out the details with him, and said he'd reply either tonight or tomorrow morning. I didn't mention to him that I already sent an email to that address that didn't get responded to.

Anyway, so I sent another email to Chef Brian, this time from a different email account, and I'm waiting for a reply. Didn't get one today so hopefully tomorrow.

Ugh. I didn't expect the process to be so drawn out and difficult. Everyone here makes it seem so easy to order a cake. Boo hoo, pity party, table of 1.

Ok, I need some suggestions. DH and I will be at WDW Jan 7-14, 3 nights at BWI, then 4 nights at BWV. I really want to have a cake for our 10th Anniversary, but don't know when to choose to have it and where.

I want a really small cake, but not one of those fridge generic cakes. I would love chocolate cake with choc mousse or peanut butter mousse with either chocolate or vanilla butter cream or chocolate ganache. DDH doesn't really care for cake and I don't want something huge to go to waste.

We have reservations at: HDDR, Le Cellier (lunch), Biergarten, Rose and Crown, Garden Grill.

Any suggestions??

You can't get a fancy cake or anything with peanut butter at any of the restaurants you've listed except HDDR, which you would do by calling Private Dining at the Contemporary: 407-824-2955

How far in advance is it recommended to place an order for a custom cake?

About 2 weeks, give or take a few days.

Yes. Just make sure they know you want really intense colors. :thumbsup2

I'm so sorry you had this experience! :sad2: The people on this thread who make cake-ordering sound easy are either longtime readers or are using THIS TUTORIAL, which, unfortunately, got moved into the middle of this massive thread when it was first posted, making it impossible to find. I think it would have helped you avoid all this runaround.

All,

I finally have pictures uploaded from our September trip and I wanted to share a few of our Steamboat Willie cake Chef Brian and the Contemporary Bakery put together for us! It was amazing, both gorgeous in person and tasted fantastic. I would order again from them every time we go to Disney, if I could!

Theme: B&W Mickey Mouse Classic Cartoons / 3rd Wedding Anniversary
Cake: Chocolate w/ Peanut Butter filling. Chocolate buttercream under white fondant. 8 inch Cake.
Price: 165

Quick question, were you offered the peanut butter filling. I just ordered a 10 inch cake for myself and would have loved peanut butter filling but they didn't offer it when I called. I spoke to the folks at the Contemporary too. I didn't order a custom cake but would have liked the option for that filling. Maybe I'll call tomorrow and ask

Not the OP, but that's a flavor you usually have to ask for, and not all bakeries will do it. Generally, they just offer standard chocolate, vanilla and fruit flavors, but the Contemporary has been good about accommodating special requests lately.

Oh, lurky, my main frustration really came with emailing on Monday and not hearing anyting in response, and then being told to send an email to the same account today.

I actually did have that tutorial bookmarked, I just have an issue with reading for content, apparently, because I skipped right over to call the Contemporary for a fancy cake. Oh well. Hopefully Brian emails me back tomorrow and this will be a long, whiny vent for nothing.

When I ordered my cake a few weeks ago, it took 2 or 3 days to get a response and it was Brian's Pastry Chef - Ben who got back to me. I'm sure they are tremendously busy...keep trying and check your SPAM folder:goodvibes Sending pixie dust your way:tinker:

Is it possible to order a cake and have it brought to one of the restaurants in EPCOT?

Hoping to order a cake to recreate our wedding night cake at Narcoossee's on our trip in December. Will they just go by my description or will they let me email a pic of our cake from 2007?

I think it might depend on what bakery but I can't think of a reason you wouldn't be able to email a pic. The more specific you can be, especially with pics, the better off you are. I sent a pic and a sketch with diagram to the Y&B private dining when ordering a cake recently. The result was spot-on. :thumbsup2

How about getting something sent to our room at BWI/BWV or BW Bakery?

It will be the same bakery we used in 2007, hehe. We ate at Narcoossee's that night & we're eating there again our 1st night there this time as well.
I know I can't order any earlier than 2 weeks out but now I'm impatient, lol.

I hear ya! I had to sit on my hands to keep from calling too soon to order our cake from Y&B private dining.

All the information you both need is in THIS POST. :thumbsup2

Oh you can order earlier than that, they just recommend not to so that the order doesn't get lost in the shuffle. :goodvibes

I'm going on Day 5 of no return emails from the Contemporary (first email Monday, a call on Wednesday, and a second email Wednesday), so I'd encourage you to order 3 weeks out. This is really, really starting to stress me out.

After four trips we are finally going to be able to splurge on DD and take her to Bippiti Boppiti Boutique then to Cinderella's Royal Table for dinner. I want to order her the chocolate glass slipper with mousse for dinner desert, but i was wondering if there's anything I can do for DS7 around the same price that will be just as special. Do they do any prince or pirate desserts? Or maybe a mini cake that maybe him, DH and I could share? I seem to remember a few years ago a pirate-treasure chest cake? Do they still do that and if so, can we get it at CRT and for how much?

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Disney is so very much about the princesses, I certainly want to make sure my little prince is included in the fun too <3

Thanks!!
-Laura
