Just got back from Disney. I celebrated my birthday there. I ordered the cake from GF bakery and dealt with Pat. Like previous posters mentioned she seemed flighty and rushed. However, I ordered the cake and it was a bit more than I had wanted to spend but I figured I would splurge a bit. Ordered a minnie themed cake 8 inches marble with white chocolate mouse and chocolate buttercream covered in fondant.

I was soo excited to see it. This was gonna be the highlight of my day. Went to our reservation at GF cafe ate a wonderful meal and then waited for my cake. Nothing. Waitress comes out to ask what we want for dessert, I tell her I had ordered a cake. She seemed surprised and said that there is one for the people at the next table but she will double check. She comes back 5 min later and tells me they have nothing there for me but the manager will go check at the bakery. At this point my heart is crushed, I'm thinking my cake isn't there and what I had been expecting to be the highlight of my bday is gone :( 15 min later the manager comes over. They found the cake but something broke off so they were gonna fix it. I was happy but the whole experience left a sour note.

The cake was ok. Taste was mediocre, decorating was ok. I decorate cakes so I think I expected more for the price.

I will post pics once I upload.

Would I order again? No. Not worth the price in my opinion.

I had the same thing at GF cafe. I ordered a cake and never had it appear. We were full so it did not matter. I am thinking of doing just chocolate strawberries and getting a rice crispie cake from the Main street bakery!

I just ordered it from Yachtsman Steakhouse (at the Yacht & Beach Club)...we had our anniversary dinner there and the wait staff brought it out as our dessert. It was chocolate cake, with chocolate mousse & chocolate ganache (as you can tell...I hate chocolate :rolleyes1 :rotfl:)

It is beautiful and looked delicious!!!

It's not a 'real' bakery where you can walk in and pick up a cake. It's the GF private bakery. As far as I know they will only deliver to their guest's rooms and their restaurants.

Some have report luck getting a cake delivered from CR (Brian) to CRT so maybe you can get one delivered to CP. I have no clue if this is always possible or if those guests were just lucky. Good luck.

The only actual bakery where you can walk in and pick up a cake is the Boardwalk Bakery.

Thanks! I knew it wasn't like Boardwalk, but I wasn't sure if they had a desk somewhere that I could go to and say "I am here to pick up my cake" they go to back and get it. But thanks!!!:wizard:

We are going to be staying at BCV, I may just order from Boardwalk. Can you get a lot of the same there as you can GF?

Lurkyloo you out there? I need to know how much the mini two tier wedding cakes are, if they can be decorated anyway (want to do a 21st birthday celebration), and if they can be purchased and made at Contemporary or are they exclusive to the BW Bakery?

Thanks!

So, I went ahead and took a leap and finally ordered my cake after many, many e-mails with Pat at the GF. I ordered an 8 inch chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling and hot pink fondant with a white design that I found here on DIS. It is for Valentine's Day at Narcoosee's and is my boyfriend's Valentine's Day present.

I was hesitant because of some of the reviews and the cost ($77 + tax and gratuity, although what I originally wanted was $100), but decided to go ahead because it's Valentine's Day and it's a chance to get a really fancy cake that I normally wouldn't get. Cross your fingers for a good, correct, tasty cake!

Hi! :wave2:

Let's see... they're about $25, and I know GF Bakery does them too, but you'd have to ask the Contemporary pastry chef if they can do them, and how customized they can be. Just call the Contemporary at 407-824-1000 and ask to be transferred to Private Dining. Then tell them you want to do a custom two-tier miniature cake. :thumbsup2

I wanted a wedding cake replica but we had different favorite layers. I ended up ordering 2 mini cakes. I didn't ask for any specific decorations, just specific flavors. One was chocolate with peanut butter filling, and the other, almond with ameretto. We had them delivered to the room on our first night. I had asked for advice on here as I wanted them during Wishes but our dinner reservations were cutting it close. We arrived at our room at 7:45 and they were set out with a note for which was which. They were delicious. My husband was so surprised.

I called Pat 1 week in advance. I got through on the first try. I told her what I wanted, she didn't tell me there were any restrictions on the mini cakes just asked if I wanted two tier or one with a chocolate castle. She asked if I would like anything written on the plates and that was it. Less than 10 minutes. $30 each which is definitely pricey for a single serving cake but I was pleased that we each had our own flavors without a lot of leftovers (we were on the DDP).

It was a great, easy, experience for me.

I was wondering...We're staying at the GF for our anniversary and would like to try one of the mini cakes. I had a VERY bad experience with Pat with the last cake I ordered. Is there anyone else I can speak with instead of Pat?

My experience with Pat was similar. I think if you call the cake hotline, not private dining, you can speak with someone else. When I originally ordered my DD's b-day cake, I spoke with someone from the cake hotline. My mistake was in asking for Pat after I spoke with that person. Good luck!:goodvibes

Thank you so much! I still have around 6.5 months before I order, but will def. call the cake hotline.

I know this is probably a silly question but can someone give me the number to order a special cake? We were married at the Yacht Club last year and would love to order a small version of our wedding cake, if possible, for our one year anniversary there. Thanks

Welcome to the home of the
Official Cake Chatter Thread

There have been many requests for a cake thread that is more of a gallery and shows photos and cake info only, without any chatter about cakes. Well we want everyone to have that, but what good is food if you can't talk about it too?

So everyone gets their ideal cake experience we've created this chatter thread especially for talking about cakes. Have a headache ordering one? This is the place to vent. Was your cake experience the pixie dust filled adventure that you expected, this is the place to share!

This is ALSO the place to originally post those cake photos. The moderators will move them to the THIS CAKE GALLERY shortly after you post. When you post a picture, please also include:

When posting photos on the chatter thread please include:

Price
Date Received
Location
Cake info - Flavors, special requests, etc
Anything else special about that particular cake

(To those viewing the gallery - Please remember that cakes ordered a long time ago may no longer be relevant, or available, but are still pretty to look at)

Can't wait to see and talk about all of the new cakes!

New "Cake Hotline" for ordering special occassion cakes!
There is a "Cake Hotline" for Guests requesting celebratory cakes at most Table Service dining locations. The Cake Hotline number is 407-827-2253 and requires 48 hours notice.

Can the Contemporary bakery do the white chocolate Cinderella castle?

Would you order from the Contemporary Bakery or the Grand Floridian?

OHHH how much are the characters? I would love to get one for each of my kids if they are not overly expensive. I am sure I can make one of our meals be at CR. We are staying at AKV and from what I've been told its best to go elsewhere for the cake.

Ordering one from In-Room dining is $25.

Hoping someone can please help..will be coming in may and staying at bwv for my boyfriends birthday. How far in advance would I need to plan/buy a cake? What would be the best sized cake if it is only the two of us? I have seen so many amazing cakes and would like a nice one maybe with a goofy theme(that's my boyfriend's favorite) or UP possibly so would I need a larger cake, but would that be too much to eat for just two people?! Also should I order from the Boardwalk Bakery and just walk downstairs to pick it up or have the cake at one of our dinners?(adr's in mk area at chef mickeys, tonys, ohana) Any ideas or info please PLEASE let me know. Greatly appreciate it!

We will be here in July. I have looked at alot of these cakes, but I see none for WL. Eating at WWC. Anyone have any comments or pictures that they can share. I think we want choc. with choc filling. Butter creme icing.
