Just ordered an 8" WALL-E cake for my son's 6th b'day at Chef Mickey's on Oct 17. It will be vanilla with vanilla buttercream and WALL-E will be an edible image. The price was around $50. I am anticipating something similar to the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cake earlier in the thread.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Hey everyone,

I just got off the phone with Pat. She was wonderful but said they only do edible images, particularly the standing white chocolate ones.

While those are great, it is not quite what we are looking for. We are doing a Haunted Mansion themed cake, similar to the one at the CR but also with some of the style of a recent pirate cake at the GF we saw.

I told her I would email her some examples. Is it true they only do edible images? If so, what a bummer! Our budget is $100 and I would hate for it to be something we don't like.

I know that I have seen a Halloween cake on here with a little pumpkin, ghost, some small black cats/bats and it didn't have any edible image. But I can't remember where I saw it or where it was from.

I know.... I'm not help. :) But I did see one.

UPDATE: Found it! It was at the Beach Club and is post #74 HERE

Where to get cake?

We are going in December and will be there on my actual birthday :woohoo: (never works out that way) and are going with some friends that have never been. I really want to get a cake but don't want a cake with just some pretty flowers put on it and I'd like to get it early enough in the trip so that we can eat on it all week. I'm thinking cake for breakfast will work out just fine!

We will be checking into AKV, having breakfast at WCC and dinner at MM so having the cake at one of those places would be ideal. Has anyone had a cake at MM before and if so what were they able to do? Has anyone had a cake from AKL recently? I say recently about AKL because last March the selection was kinda lacking.

I have some time to figure out what I want (would LOVE a Star Wars themed Tinkerbell cake) but I don't want to start calling the cake line asking a bunch of questions of the various places without having some general direction.

TIA

Thanks! I will try and look it up. It just seemed silly to me that she said they only do edible images. I've seen so many GF cakes that don't have a single one on them! With a $100 budget, I would hope I don't just get a standing white chocolate ghost!:scared1:

I hope you have responded to the cake hotline, as well as the oerson you were emailing with at the CR to express your displeasure at the cake. Judging by the past cakes we have seen, the CR CAN make beautiful cakes. Someone seriously mixed up your order and you need to be compensated for it! If you did pay for the cake, you need your money refunded!

I know I'm not the poster you were addressing, but in our case, my husband did attempt to contact Pat at the GF to express our disappointment with the cake. So far, he's received no response. He says it's still annoying him, so he's going to call again. ;)

Definately keep calling! Customer Service is supposed to be one of Disney's finer points! Give them a chance to make it better!

We celebrated DS Birthday during our trip Sept.9th-18th. Maddox had 2 cakes...one at Chef Mickey's and one at 1900 Park Fare. I called the Contemporary 2 months in adavance and asked them if they could make the hand-piped Mickey Head cake like the one that they make at the Grand Floridian and they said it would be no problem! I spoke to a super nice lady named Eadie who spoke to Brian the chef. It turned out wonderful!! It was so cute and tasted great!! The cost was 48.00

The Buzz Lightyear cake was wonderful too but wayyyy too big for just 3 people. It was a 10 inch cake and was huge! It was so good; it was white cake on the inside, frosted in buttercream with fondant accents; cost was 109.00

I debated on whether or not to post this because I know that at least one of the cake decorators at the Contemporary is a DIS'er and I don't want to hurt any one's feelings, but...

We had a not so good experience with our 10th Anniversary cake at the Contemporary resort on 9/11/09. I had exchanged a few emails with the cake person at the Contemporary as well as spoke with someone directly on the Cake Hotline there. I was of the understanding that I was getting a 6" cake with the white chocolate castle with some blue/violet hydrangea and white roses on top. I asked for a chocolate cake with a raspberry mousse filling.

When the cake arrived at our table I was very disappointed. It had no chocolate castle on it, but a gold stamp of a generic castle on the side of the cake. The stamp wasn't even of one of the Disney castles! The icing and detail work was sloppy and the flowers were nothing like had been described. Although the cake was pretty, it was still dissapointing to receive something that was nothing like I had ordered.

Also, it was an 8" instead of 6", which cost me more. The chocolate cake tasted like cardboard and the filling was a custard not a mousse. I wasn't going to say anything, but i think our server sensed our dissapointment because the manager appeared at our table and asked if the cake was to our liking. I explained the issues to him and he was very nice and considerate, but said that it was out of his hands because "none of the custom cakes are made on site here at the Contemporary. They are all made at the Grand Floridian and then sent over." :scared1: WHAT! That is one question I specifically asked, if the cake was made on site at the California Grill and I was told yes. I asked when the cake had arrived and he said Wednesday morning. WHAT! (again) That means my cake was frozen for two days before being thawed out on Friday morning to be served Fri. evening. Dissapointing to say the least.
I will post a picture soon.

Did you still pay for the cake?? I can't believe the manager was aware that you were disappointed with the cake and it was not what your order, but you still had to pay for the cake!

It is completely unacceptable for these cakes to come out less than fresh and not tasting absolutely 100% amazing!! Personal preferreances of fondant vs ganach or mousse filling vs buttercream filling aside, your cake should be fresh and moist! dry and cracked fondant or condensation ruining the decoration on your cake is simply not acceptable!! If Disney can not offer the level of service and detail to these cakes as is necissary, than they need to stop offering them/accepting orders! There is no way i would pay $100 for a cake that tasted like cardboard!

and the elaborate decorating is no excuse for the cake to be stale or frozen! The flowers are made ahead of time, not the cake. You don't need to have the cake sitting next to you for 2 days while you make flowers, castles, dinosaurs, or haunted mansion show pieces! Decorations first, THEN you make the cake!

Yes, the manager did say that he still had to charge us for the cake. It was something about charges coming from somewhere else, blah, blah.
I have contacted the CR cake hotline to try and get this resloved, but as yet have recieved no call backs. Have left at least one message every other day. Looks like once is served they are done with you and I might have to take this as lessoned learned, albeit an expensive lesson.

Sorry that the cake wasn't what you asked for :sad1:. I don't understand how they mixed up a chocolate castle for a stamped castle:sad2:. In any event, I do think the cake is very pretty but I understand where you're coming from, especially when it wasn't tasty to boot.

I am also sorry the cake wasnt what you wanted. It is very disappointed to expect one thing and get another. However, It actually cost you less because I know a white chocolate castle (the big one) is $100 by itself without the cake.

To the poster with the cake issues...

I'm really sorry to hear about that!

After seeing your pictures, I have to agree with you. The gold-dusted piping looks horrible, and that castle isn't great quality, either. The flowers are pretty, but that's pretty much it.

I hope they fix things for you!!

I'm ordering a cake from CM for December; I hope we have a better experience!

I know you were disappointed by your cake and I don't blame you BUT it's a BEAUTIFUL cake! Really.

So sorry your cake experience was less then stellar! I know it wasn't what you ordered and it was stale which in unacceptable imo. Though it is a very pretty cake!

Thank you all for the compliments. And yes, even though it wasn't what we ordered (in the least) and the quality of the cake or the decorations are not top notch, it was pretty.

princssdisnygina.....i just wanted the white chocolate castle topper, not a huge big castle cake or huge castle topper. I think the small topper is like $25. That is why I only ordered a 6" cake, because we were supposed to have the small chocolate castle topper.

MAGICX2 that cake is beautiful!!!! I know it is not at all what you ordered and for that you have every right to be very upset with Disney but I'm not seeing anything sloppy about it. To do that work in gold like that is not easy at all and the flowers (again, not what you wanted...I understand) are stunning. Really a fabulous cake under any other circumstances.

I'm not sure if this is okay to ask here but I'm going to give it a shot and if I get moved.....:)

I am now officially turned off on the idea of a "cake" for our anniversary trip. I've hemmed and hawed and the post about the cake at Cali Grill (our location) being so bad and the manager doing essentially nothing was the final straw for me. I adore CG and don't want my experience ruined.

So.....is it possible to reach the mythical "Brian" and ask to have a fabulous "dessert" created, rather than a cake? I know they do all the fancy stuff on the plates and stuff but I want something really *wow* for this time. Thoughts?

bumping.....

I was just wondering how soon I should call to order a cake?

Our trip is 8 weeks today and I was hopeing to have it delivered to our room at WL the day we check in

DF and I are driving over to WL on Saturday (10/3) to meet with my brother and his wife, who are starting their vacation to celebrate her birthday. We're joining them for her birthday dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe, and this morning I called the hotline and ordered one of the Minnie head cakes to be presented at dinner. Was juuuust above the 48 hour notice mark and the CM said there'd be no problem! Can't wait to have a picture to share here. :thumbsup2
