Since there are so many teachers on here, I have to ask, even though it can apply to everyone...Do you feel as guilty as I do wishing away the summer?? Especially after this winter...

No guilt here. I'm not even sure we will have a summer. I have my winter coat for yard duty today. :scared1:

Hey everybody!!!!

Still here.....I will get you all added to page 1 by the end of the week. :goodvibes

It's the kids spring break week so we are currently enjoying the Baltimore/DC area. I will be back home Thursday and will get everyone updated. :yay:

I have been absent here for a while but thought I'd post a quick check-in. I have been preoccupied planning a Memorial Day weekend trip! :cool1: This came up suddenly due to my middle DD being involved in an awards thing at Yacht Club which we didn't find out about until mid-March so I have been planning like a mad-woman, lol! I am usually planning 12 months in advance, so this trip on only 2 months notice has me crazy (but so much fun!). In the space of 4.5 days we are doing the MK 24-hr day, SWW (first time for that; DH is a huge fan!), seeing the AK parade one last time, hoping to ride 7DMT, taking full advantage of SAB, and all is a surprise to my 3 DDs who have no idea! ("Oh gosh, Becca, I'm so sorry! But there's no way we can go to this when we have our WDW trip planned just 2 months after that..." hee hee hee). We are getting our money's worth out of these PAPs! (but I must promise myself NEVER to get them again -- we really are spending a small fortune, even with having them; yep, they totally suckered us in!).

WRT the recent QOTD, I have to do better with the sunblock. Usually we go late August and have had a summer's worth of sun to build a good "base" and can get away with a quick spray of the sunscreen when touring for parks (though we do better on waterpark and pool days). This year we are going late-July to early-Aug, so we'll be a bit less tanned up and the sun will be even stronger. This was a good reminder to me to be thinking ahead on that! Does sun screen expire? Or can I finish up some of the stuff I've got left over from last season?

Only 88 days to departure (89 to arrival!) for August... :cloud9: Just over 3 weeks until our surprise May trip! :hyper:

Changing plans again, hopefully for the last time :rotfl:

Leaving 8/2, arriving 8/3 - first day in parks 8/4. Changed our Ft. Wilderness night to 8/4. ADR at 50's prime time cafe still for 8/8

Realized if we left a day earlier DH would have to take one less vacation day.

Guess I need to make a new ticker :goodvibes

Double digit day!! 99 to go!!

The kids are FINALLY beginning to show more than a passing excitement. My 8 year old was the one who reminded me that we were at 99. That's a big deal.

We've been reading the first Kingdom Keepers book and that's helped a lot...although now they're not thrilled about riding It's a Small World, LOL!!!

We're at 97 days! I'm so excited!

I think I'm going to call and change our resort today though. We're at the point where we're burnt out on Value Resorts so I think that we're going to upgrade to a Moderate. I'm at work right now and so is Jen so I'm just waiting for her to answer me back about where we should go

So I need help planning our trip, who wants to help???? :confused3

I usually spend a year+ planning trips so my mind goes into overdrive when trying to plan something on less notice. I just officially booked WL a couple minutes ago. So it will be just DH and I. We will arrive on a Thursday, probably early afternoon. Then we'll have all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We're going to do the full day Backstage Magic tour one of the days, I'm thinking we should do it Saturday, and I'm thinking we will beat after that so probably just do dinner and hang at WL that night. So I need to plan:

Thursday night - ??? (maybe take boat over to MK for dinner?)

***

Friday day - ??

Friday night - ?? (thinking Epcot and WS for dinner?)

***

Saturday - Backstage Magic tour

Saturday night - WL for dinner

***

Sunday - ???

Sunday night - ???

We will skip AK but need to fit in a half day (or night) at HS and at least same for MK.

Uh oh, why?? My daughter (8, almost 9) has mentioned an interest in reading that series. How do you like it? Do you find it's ok and appropriate for that age range? Thanks!

108 days for me today!! Almost double digits! Since there are so many teachers on here, I have to ask, even though it can apply to everyone...Do you feel as guilty as I do wishing away the summer?? Especially after this winter... I can't wait for this trip. I feel like I've been waiting my whole life for it, but I don't want my summer to end either. Mixed feelings!! Next time maybe I'll brave the crowds and shoot for late June. :goodvibes

While we've had a very mild winter in the UK, I'm trying hard not to wish the summer away, especially as I will be teaching the first day back after we land due to a change in the school calendar!

As a teacher, I would like my summer to c r a w l, but I cannot wait for our August trip to WDW, which is actually after our school year starts. I am taking a personal day and extending Labor Day Weekend! I am going to enjoy the anticipation and plan a ton of other getaways this summer, so I am not going to let myself get into "I cannot wait till August" mindset.

We go at the end of August every year. Summer is my favorite season! I live in Jersey and we had a harsh winter! I can't wait for warmer temps! I find that going the end of August is like the last Hurrah! We thoroughly enjoy the summer and then instead of being sad about the end of summer we get a week in Disney! No time to focus on the sadness of summer ending! Then when we get home it's right back to school! So I never really "wish" my summer away just actually have something to look forward to even though summer is ending!

My oldest son is 10, and my youngest is 8. We are reading the book together at night before bed.

For me, I think the story is a little disjointed. It started out verrry slowly for my taste, and tends to jump around between chapters, but the action picks up. The characters in the book are thirteen I think.
We're about 40 pages from the end, and it's pretty interesting. I like the Disney connections, they're a lot of fun!
As for it being appropriate, I would say yes, at least for my two boys. They love the Harry Potter series, Cirque du Freak, Percy Jackson, Gregor the Overlander, etc... so if your daughter is into that she might really like Kingdom Keepers.

There's just a pretty creepy scene that takes place in IaSW involving the dolls coming to life, lol.

We're going to try the second book in the series and see how we feel from there, but my boys seem to really be enjoying the first one so far.

Very interesting, thanks! My daughter is currently into series like the Rainbow Magic fairies or the Boxcar Children, but we enjoy anything with a Disney connection. We like reading certain series together, so I like that idea, especially since I would be interested in reading Kingdom Keepers myself (although a scene about the IaSW dolls coming to life might be enough to keep her away)! It's our girls' favorite ride and I wouldn't want to ruin it for them!

I don't feel like I'm wishing away the summer but I also think of my Disney vacation as the "last hurrah" of the summer. One last shebang before going back to the grind!

The book might be a little dark for her, then. I don't want to mislead you and say it's fine, b/c kids are all so different. There are some pretty intense moments. I wouldn't want it to ruin any of her ideas of or feelings toward the park, you know? It's not the happy sunshiney magical Disney we're all used to. I would suggest reading it for yourself first and then going from there.

I agree! For our district it's on the 6th grade reading list, anyone younger than that may have issues with it.

We are the same about going in August! (- From Jersey too ;) )

Totally understood. Sounds like I'll take a peek first to be safe! Thanks for all the info!

Interesting. She's going into 4th, so that definitely puts it into perspective. Thanks!
