***Official August 2010 Thread!! Come Join Us In The Countdown!*****

....... I've been in May, Oct & Nov. My trip in May (09) they had record temps (was 95 the whole week only 1nt it rained). It was HOT but the humidity wasnt THAT horrible. ..... Love to hear about trips in Aug.
Warning, this is long.

We've been 4 times in August. I just had a May:love: trip by myself and a trip in Oct:cloud9: with DH. DH can't take the heat anywhere so I take DSs who will go to WDW anytime. You'll experience similar temps as your May trip but the humidity will be much higher. Plan for an afternoon rain as the humidity builds. Last year it rained every day sometimes with dramatic lightening.
I've suffered from hydration so I know to stay away from caffeine and alcohol sticking with juice, Crystal Light drinks and water. My Hydroflask is wonderful for that. It keeps ice and drinks cold all day and doesn't sweat.
A coolie bandana around my neck wetting it throughout the day helps. Freezing wash cloths and putting them in a ziplock bag with ice for cool swipes during the day is better than dessert.
In my camera bag is a super absorbing swimmers towel & silcia packets that absorb humidity and clear kitchen garbage bags. For camera "fog" up going from air conditioning to the outside. Seal your camera in a large ziplock bag while in your room then put it inside your camera bag. Don't take it out until the outside of the zip bag reaches the same temp as the outside.
We have a Misting bottle fan to pass around that will hold ice in the base for a cool mist:) People in the que were drooling over it last year.
Our daily touring plans are centered around air conditioning. We go to the parks early for EMH or late EMH. Last few times we did late EMH more so than early. I love taking pics at night!
Our WDW ponchos are in the bag but it has to be a monsoon before DSs wear them. An umbrella. The best rain memory is of DSs running out into the rain dancing around.

We have so many more wonderful summer WDW memories than bad ones because of the heat. Really looking forward to this August:banana:

One thing to note. This may not be a time to get a lot of Character greetings, at least outside. I would imagine that since the costumes are so very hot, that the character's will either be inside, or have to take very frequent break, which could lead to long lines. The character greeting area Camp Minnie Mickey in AK is pretty shady. I'd go there if I have to be outdoors.

SO UPSET about the TSMM refurb!! Cannot put that in words-- so incredibly upset! We're having a newbie along and I was really looking forward to showing it to her!

I'm upset about it too! Although glad they moved the dates back one day. I'm hoping we'll get to ride it once on our arrival day (15th). But it will be very hard for us to get there early for fastpasses. I might have to think of waiting in a very long line to ride it!

I'm upset about IASW being refurbed then too! That's a big one for newbies to miss!

Yeah.. I see you. Now maybe we have a chance of finding each other. Is your hair much longer now?

my hair is longer now, like down to between my shoulder blades, but I will have it up in a pony tail the whole time because my hair and i do not get along in that heat lol its too hot to leave down anyways.

Okay I think I am now DONE tweaking dining reservations! I have a serious problem I think. I can't even think about it anymore!!!

Another good spot for meet & greets and air conditioned:cloud9: is in Epcot. They're very organized and although the lines are long they move swiftly.

You're not kidding about the heat and humidity and hair. I probably will have my hair up too. Its soooo thick and curly that its a nightmare! :scared1: My DH always looks the same though and DD7 (soon to be 8) is so cute and tiny and her hair I usually put in pony tails. Even in cooler weather, without pony tails her hair will surely dip into whatever sticky thing she's snaking on.

im jealous you have little ones going with you! i love seeing little kids faces at disney world. Although, i think my parents would agree, even at age 21, i act like i little kid at disney world =)

We moved our arrival day up one day. We now arrive in the evening on August 21st. We'll spend the 1st night at CSR before moving to BCV on 8/22. I save several hundred $$$ on airfare by arriving later in the day.
I keep tweaking our ADRs! I've added a few lunches and moved some other meals around. I think it's an illness! :lmao:

Just wondering how many more people have added vacations or found this thread since the OP had last updated the August list????:confused3

several. I added myself in May (with one reminder) and I'm not showing up on the list :sad2: but... I met a lot of good *new* friends on this thread, so all is good.:thumbsup2

Just realized today that I am fast approaching the day of reckoning for this trip! We've been paying it off in dribs and drabs as finances allow, and now it is a race to see whether my final substitute teaching paycheck arrives before the July 3 deadline, or if we have to break out the credit card...:scared1:

If only they would let us come free every year!:rotfl:
