Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

How did you do with the winds last night? It was pretty bad here.

We had some wind here that night, but it wasn't too bad.

Just finished 9.5!

Off to find some compression socks or leg sleeves. Are the Zensah ones the way to go? I actually have socks I like quite a bit, so I'm leaning more toward sleeves than socks, but I'd welcome any suggestions.

Congats on the 9.5! As for compression socks/sleeves ~ I have recovery socks from CEP and I like them for recovery, but I wouldn't 'wear them aside from that, the material isn't as soft as the Zensah. For sleeves, I have Zensah and I love them. They're comfortable and tight but not too tight. I've worn them to the gym, run in them a couple of times and worn them after my recovery socks. I'm getting another pair in the next couple of weeks.

No running for me this weekend. My alarm went off yesterday morning to go out, but I wanted just one more weekend to sleep in before training started up again. :) But I did get to the gym, so that was good. I have 3 3's this week and a 5 to get back into the groove and then training officially starts next week.

Just an FYI for those booked on Alaska airlines flights into Orange County for the race. Just checked my flights and they dropped $30 a ticket so I got the credit put in my Alaska account. 5 of us going so that's a great savings! Just wanted to mention it so you might be able to save some money like I did!

Ooh, will have to look at mine.

Waiting to leave for London currently. I don't think my trainer is happy with me currently because my schedule kept shifting at the last minute. I am going to Cardiff tomorrow for the Doctor Who Experience, I was supposed to go Saturday, it booked up. And I had my schedule all set up to accommodate for traveling on Saturday. But now I am traveling on Friday and kind of stuck. So I am doing my 3 miler on Saturday I guess. Its 6 hour round trip to Cardiff and we leave bright and early at 5 am and don't get back until around 6 so all I am going to want to do once I am back in London is sleep. Whoops.

Lets not even talk about the fact that I am probably going to end taking the week off when I'm in India since I'm pretty sure the hotel doesn't have a fitness center and I am not comfortable with running outside where we are going.

To top things off one of my leg muscles has been throwing a royal hissy fit in the last few runs for some reason. I don't know why its doing so its perfectly fine when I'm walking. Maybe a week off while I'm in India will do it some good. :confused3

Well, I am glad I went ahead and booked my race weekend through a travel company! I had been debating about doing that or gambling with waiting in the hopes for a Green Friday like they had last year. I decided to just go with the travel company knowing that I was paying for peace of mind of just having it all registered. And since there was no Green Friday I'm really pleased I didn't wait. And as an added bonus Virgin America had a Black Friday sale on flights so I'm all booked up there, too! Now all I need to do is wait the next 48 days! Oh, and train. I might get a little if that in, too :thumbsup2

I feel you! I have been feeling really strong, but not fast with my training and was going to sign up for the 10K on Green Friday if a spot opened up. But nothing.

So I have a story to share from London after yesterday's long run.

So long story short yesterday was supposed to be a 3 mile run. It turned into a 4 mile run. Why? Because I didn't realize that Kensington Gardens closed at dusk and if you are in the Gardens you literally get locked in for the night. Now let me tell you traversing Hyde Park at night is not as easy as it sounds because apparently most of it closes. Me not being local did not know this. And did not know that half of the park was called Kensington Gardens. So when I heard something go by 'saying the gardens are closing shortly' I thought it was talking about a small portion of the park. Not 90 percent of the park. And kept on running when I should have just turned around and ran the park's perimeter.

All I got to say is thank god for the really nice German tourists who also got locked in with me. Because I certainly wouldn't have had the upper arm strength to get my legs up on the gate footholds to get out.

On the bright side I wasn't the only runner who made that mistake I saw another runner with a camelback on looking for a way out now long before I finally hopped the gate. :lmao:

Also on the bright side I think I finally learned it takes about a mile or two for me to get properly warmed up as far as running goes. Which might explain why the last few short runs felt a bit odd since they were on the 2-3 miles since I've been trying to recover from a phlebotomy and other things. It's been a fun time making the transition from a run walker to a full on runner but at least I finally understand the oddity with my legs.

Which spells good news for me since my runs should start getting longer again since I am getting away from the Wine and Dine half marathon date. And I just discovered yesterday that there is somewhere to run while I am in India. So I won't be forced to take a week off while I'm there for a wedding. It still might be hard to find time for runs but hey at least I have somewhere to run.

Does anyone recall how much the ParkHopper tickets are through GET Travel? Trying to decide between a 2-day and 3-day park pass...

Thanks!

GET Travel Tickets

2 Day - $185
3 Day - $210

Disney normally offers discounted tickets for January. They are a little more thane the GET travel tickets, but they include the early admission. The GET travel tickets don't include any extras.

Hi! Does anyone have insight for the corrals for this race?

I've only run one Disney race--Tower of Terror 10 miler this past fall. I submitted proof of time of 58:52 10k and got placed in corral C (I believe there were corrals A-J).

My TOT time is skewed because I made some stops for pictures with characters, so I will be using that same 58:52 10k as my proof of time for the Tinkerbell half--I'm signed up for another 10k in December, but that's too late to submit for corral changes.

Anyone run last year with a time similar to mine--and what corral were you placed in? Does it tend to be pretty similar year to year?
Thanks for any insight! :)

This is the corral placements for the 2013 Disneyland half. The Tink corrals should be similar. I just noticed they spelled Disneyland wrong.

The only thing about the announcement being a challenge for this year that would confuse me is why now? All the races are filled up for the year if they were going to announced a challenge they should have done it months ago. Unless they want a riot on their hands they are either going to open an entire new slot of race just for the a double challenge this year (highly unlikely) or there announcing something for next year (more likely).

Or maybe they are announcing a sale of reopened slots like they did last year (also unlikely but hey you never know).

It's all ready the next day here so I'm curious what the heck is this announcement. I probably won't find out until tomorrow morning here.

Too funny about Disneyland spelled wrong! :lmao:

Thanks! So it seems it's very similar to the TOT corrals...and I'll mostly likely be in C? I put that my Estimated Finish time was 2:10 (even though the calculator I used said a few seconds before that).

A bit sad...I've improved a lot since that 10k and I really think I *could* do a half in less than 1:58. Too bad the 10k I am doing in a few weeks is too late to submit for this race. Oh, darn! I guess I just will have to sign up for next year, too! What a shame! ;)

Don't be too sad yet! You might end up in B. If your calculator ended up less than 2:10, and you estimated 2:10, that puts you a lot closer to B than C.

I'm hoping for D. Would be super cool to have a bib with that low of a number! (for me, considering my first half I started out with 10,600 something).
