Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

just signed up the other day.. this will be my first race i think i might also do the wine and dine half a month later and use this one as more of a training race

What characters are out for pictures?

I think not as many as some would have liked. I remember being thrilled to see the grave keepers.... Dr. Facilier... the hyenas. Stitch was out too... :scratchin I am trying to remember who else.... cards from the queen of hearts? Oh... big bad wolf. I thin there were a couple more maybe?

I might actually have a chance to run this race this fall. Does anyone know for the after party what rides are open and what shops and eateries
are open?

I know the big three are according to the website...RNRRC, TSM, ToT

Here is what it says...

Party all night long with the Disney Villains during the Hollywood Bash!

Runners and their guests are invited to party all night long with the Disney Villains at Disney's Hollywood Studios! You'll enjoy exclusive access to some of your favorite Disney attractions including Rock 'n' Roller Coaster® Starring Aerosmith, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ and Toy Story Mania! Plus there will be live DJs and you'll get to meet your favorite Disney Villains.

Here is the description from last year's official race program, which I believe lists all open attractions during the party-

Runners and Guests can party in the shadow of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ at the Disney Villains Hollywood Bash where you will enjoy Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster® Starring Aerosmith, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™, Star Tours, Muppet*Vision 3D, The Great Movie Ride, and Toy Story Mania!, in addition to DJs and character meet & greets with your favorite Disney Villains.

I signed up to run this yr! Might have to bring the kids though as hubby wouldn't want them for a week by himself, lol. We'll be staying at the Sports again Oct 2nd-8th if anyone wants to meet!

Hubby says the kids can't go so I guess if it's just me I'll be staying at PO Riverside 3rd-7th!!

If you buy discounted tickets through runDisney, can you upgrade them to AP?

I understand that "special" tickets can't be upgraded, but I wasn't sure whether the discounted tickets count as special.

"Special Tickets include Touch of Magic, YES (Youth Educational Series) Program, used or unused Special Event Tickets (MNNSHP, MVMCP, NoJ) after the date of the event, any ticket that includes the word “comp”, “complimentary”, "SPORT", or "YOUTH" on it, or has a "not valid before" or a "not valid after" date on it and any tickets that are not sold at the Park Gates cannot be upgraded or modified in any way."

you probably can but like the military tickets and the florida resident tickets they just use the price you paid for the ticket they wont do any "bridging" like they would with some of the other discounted tickets. so really you are paying the same either way

Add me to the first timer, slow, running solo group! :woohoo:

Family will likely come on the trip...but I am the only runner for the 10 miler. Still trying to talk a friend into it but she may do W&D instead. Going to sign DS up for the sprint and maybe the 5k with my dad. But first we'll see how he does in the Color Run this weekend.

We will also likely stay at Port Orleans or Shades of Green.

Hi Laura :wave2: Welcome. This is the first time I am running at night, so I will be slow and can't see in the dark too well, either. It should be fun!!

PrincessV I just read some of your blog and it's so helpful! Love your info on the past TOT race and the Princess 1/2 because I'd love it do it in 2014 if the TOT race goes well. Hopefully this race goes better for you this year!
Such a nice thing to hear - thanks so much! I'm afraid to get too optimistic, but so far, so good... :thumbsup2

Just something I've been wondering...what do you take with you to the corrals? And do you carry a bag or anything during the race?
The only thing I brought for the corral last year was a bottle of water - but they had water tables in the corrals, so it turned out to be unnecessary. This year I may bring an old towel to sit on; the asphalt snagged my compression shorts and sparkle skirt. Plus it's, you know, hard. I'll also bring a Clif bar for a last-minute snack.

During the race, and for all long runs, I use a double-pouch iFitness belt to hold my energy chews, money, room key, credit card, driver's license, car key. I use an armband pouch for my iPhone. And I carry a small, handhled water bottle that I refill at the water stations.

That's all I can remember, too, though I wasn't stopping for pics, so I wasn't all that aware.

I might actually have a chance to run this race this fall. Does anyone know for the after party what rides are open and what shops and eateries

It seemed like almost everything was open, as far as rides. Food I can't remember at all... but I can vouch for a good number of beer and mixed drink carts. :teeth:

Welcome aboard, Laura!

Welcome Laura!!

We stayed at Port Orleans-Riverside in February and LOVED it! Great atmosphere! For TOT, we will probably stay at either Port Orleans-French Quarter or POP!

i just wanted to add that i'm running solo. my sister and my two older kids are coming on the trip with me, but not running. i run around 9-10 minutes per mile. i'd be happy to have a running buddy if someone else is solo too. :)

Is anyone else experiencing problems with the online ticket store? I've tried to login over the past week and keep getting an error message.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Ren - we really like Riverside too. Stayed there last Oct for DS's birthday. We like the Magnolia Bend/Terrace area for easy access to everything, transportation, food, pool, car, etc. We are staying there again in May. Going down for SWW staying a couple of days at Pop (realized DS has an extra day off for Memorial Day weekend) then over to POR (my original reservation) for a couple more nights.

Really need to get at it. Peachtree will be here before I know it.

Glad to see there are so many solo runners and travelers! I'd love to stay at POR or another moderate but will most likely be staying at All-Star because I'm a grad student on a budget! :goodvibes

Maybe we can get a meet up together, like a dinner or something, when the dates get closer. All I know is I'm planning at least a lunch at BOG! ::yes:: But if not, hopefully I'll meet some of you in the corrals!

honestly a lot of people like saying at Mods because the resorts are a little nice i used to stay in only mods all the time myself but one time i went with a value since they didnt have any mods thats weekend and really unless you spend a lot of time in the rooms/resort there isnt much of a difference between the two you pretty much lose the hot tub since most of the values have fridges now. so i now pretty much rent points (which can be a cheaper option) or ill stay in a value and spend the money i save at the world showcase!.
