Official 2013 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

You got off easy with nine minutes. DH waited almost an hour at the Expo. Mainly b/c of the lady in front of him who apparently had never seen the "magic box" known as a computer before. He said she took over 30 minutes to do her registration and needed assistance from multiple cast members.

When she was done and moved on, people behind DH in line actually APPLAUDED.

Oh my gosh that's funny. There are times when I wonder how some people don't walk into walls more often.

No corrals, but they sent people off in short waves. They did have some people holding signs w/ times of where you should stand, but no one really paid attention to them. I saw on the reg site that you were supposed to click on what time your pace is/what you think you'd run it in and that is new. We've never had to do that before, so they could add it this year, but the race is usually only about 5,000 so it wouldn't be very many corrals if they did that.

I seriously wonder how some people in this day and age don't know what a computer is! I mean its really hard to do. They are everywhere now adays. I mean I can understand not knowing how to use one maybe, but never having seen one before? Nope!

On another note according to what I found out my appointment in February with the doctor will also schedule my surgery and my pre-op. So I will know within a couple of weeks how much time out from the DDD I will have my bariatric surgery. Could be sometime from June-August. I'm kind of hoping for the July to August range so I can get some weight off before the DDD, and look nice. Plus that means I won't have to travel back from Chile (which is probably going to happen, taking a semester off to study Spanish there since my parents are going to be living there).

Someone started this one DL Thread. It was going strong last week, but then it sold out and has been kinda quiet since.

Interesting about the 5k time like you said. I"ll have to check it out again when Tink opens over the summer. Missed out on the DL 5k last week, but I was on the fence $wise, so I guess it's a blessing in disguise. If I get into NY, I'll definitely need it for that reg fee and if I'm not, I know I'll use it at the expo. I can only imagine the $ w/ the DDD stuff and, fingers crossed, better C2C stuff than last weekend.

I guess I have to start scraping some nickels together and book accommodations for the DDD. Anyone have recommendations on the on-site hotels there? Tripadvisor has varying opinions for all three. I imagine I could stay off site as well but am not sure how much of a trek it is.
(Realize I have to get on it quick since places are already selling out)

For on-site hotels, the Grand Californian is the nicest and most expensive. It's closest to the parks and has it's own entrance to DCA. The DL hotel is the next most expensive but is at the heart of the race ~ start, finish, staging area and the expo. It's also closest to the monorail which will take you in to DL only. The least expensive is Paradise Pier. It's close to the DL Hotel but the furthest overall from the parks. Get Travel has good prices on those 3 hotels. But you don't have to stay on-site. There are a ton of hotels that surround the parks so walking to the race isn't bad. Also, some of the hotels offer a shuttle race weekend and they drop you off near the park entrance and you just walk down DTD which is about 1/4-1/3 of a mile. Harbor has most of the hotels. Also there are some on Katella which is the perpendicular street to Harbor and borders the backside of DCA. There's also BW Stovalls which is across the street from Paradise Pier and kiddie corner to the backside of DCA, so it's w/in walking to the race and really popular too. If you have a AAA card, you should still be able to find rooms that are around $100 or so a night. Hope that helps a bit!

I'm late to the party once again, so I haven't read all 23 previous pages yet, but I'll catch up soon, promise

DH and I are registered for the half, got shut out of Dumbo. In the end its okay, we still get C2C, which is all we were going to do originally. Plus not having to get up early another day lets us do more touring and sightseeing.

We are flying out Wednesday, staying at BW Raffles. Planning to hit DL and DCA Weds night, Thurs and Fri (going to expo Friday am EARLY). Saturday is Huntington Beach and the "Hollywood" tour, as our friends live in the area and will show us the sights. Sunday we run, then hit the parks one more time before catching the red eye home. PHEW, I'm tired just thinking about it.

Thought I would pass this around if anyone knows someone who wants to run but hasn't the entry or booked accommodations.

Marathon Tours has entries this year for the first time I believe. I used them to get my 2012 entry into the WDW race so they are pretty good. The only problem? You have to use snail mail to enter a race with them. Info to get in via them is supposed to be going out at the end of the week. And they implied that they will have entries for all the races (yes that includes the DDD if I read the email right).

Just two things to note with Marathon Tours the spots go in the following order: people who have run with them and our members of the seven continents club, members of the seven continents club, runners who have run with them before (it might be the other way around not sure), and then first time non-club runners. The fee for the club is a one time fee of 100 dollars which in the scheme of things may be well worth paying to give you a slight advantage.

There a good group from what little experience I have with them. And having a race with them is definitely a plus if you ever want to try to get into the harder/longer races that have extremely limited availability. They are one of the two ways (and the only guaranteed way) to get into the London Marathon if you live State-side. And that's just one of the many races they have entries for (they host their own Antarctica Marathon, one of the Easter Island marathons, etc.).

So late coming into this thread but signed up for Dumbo Double Dare through the early entry program. Booked Paradise Pier Hotel for hotel, because being able to roll out of bed and walk to start is awesome. Only Disneyland Race I have done to date was the Tinkerbell Half Marathon 2012.

Thanks for the reply. I may look into the Disneyland Hotel. The grand Californian doesn't really look like it is worth the extra expense at rack rate thus far. I like the idea of being able to roll out of bed for the races. That bus ride then walk from Port Orleans to the starting line was painful. Took 2.5 hours total.

Check with travel agencies, also. I know GET had cheaper rates than rack rate, but there are others that have even cheaper rates.

DL is the only one of the three I haven't stayed at and I am doing it for this trip. I made the same decision that it is more expensive, but I adjusted my trip from 5 nights to 3 nights to kind of balance things out. Plus I have decided to not even go into the parks until after the half. So I figured Friday after the Expo and Saturday after the 10k will leave me lots of time to actually stay at the hotel and enjoy everything there is to offer. It seems so often when doing WDW or DL I hardly see my hotel room because I'm going commando through the parks. Um, that sounds wrong. But you know what I mean! Lol. Anyway, I'm purposefully building in hotel time to also justify the price difference.
I don't want to be tempted to stay up late my going to the parks and wanting to stay up to see the fireworks and I think it will be really special to have the first time I see the parks for this trip to be when I'm running through them.

I hope they have a good supply of DDD stuff! I really want a cheapie (~$25) tshirt. I won't get to the expo until that Friday late afternoon/early evening.

I noticed that Southwest opened their booking window to include race weekend. For me its about $300 to fly into and out of LAX, $400 for SNA. I totally prefer SNA, but for $100....idk

I just booked through LAX on Southwest. Mine was over $100 different! It's not that far. We had to take a friend to LAX the day we got in and it took no more than 40 mins to get up there...

I wish it was $100 difference for us. Our flights are $300 more per person to fly to SNA. I would consider $400 more, can't even think about $1200 more.
