Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Got my first run in a week done today! The DH is off all week, so I have no excuse not to hit every single run on the schedule this week.

Christmas is over, so now on to the important stuff - my costume! I'm thinking Tink again this year, but actual costume this time, and not just a green shirt and tu-tu skirt. Green covering over the running shoes, big white pom-poms... this would be SO much easier if I knew how to sew. Maybe I can corral one of my overachiever friends to sew me a Tink top out of running - clothes material! I can't believe there isn't a company out there who has not capitalized on this and makes costumes for Disney races. Any of you handy with a sewing machine out there, this is your chance!!!

Amy, Sparkle Skirts does and will have a booth at the Expo, but I do know that Leah's custom costume schedule is full at this time. She has great ideas and some really cool ready to wear running skirts. She also stocks some wings at the expo booth, if you can find a green shirt, and order one of the green running skirt or tech skirt, then get a handy friend for the shoe cover, you would well on the way.

I was hoping to do Adventure Belle, but instead I have ordered a minnie mouse sparkle tech and will construct a head band with ears, and bow.

Hi All. I, too, am trying to firm up my costume for the Princess. My biggest concern is weather! Looks like 2 years ago it was freezing (which I remember bc I was there in January and the mornings were 20-30 degrees...actually the freshly washed sidewalks at MK were icy in front of Peter Pan...I remember bc I almost wiped out!) Then, last year it was warmer. Any recommendations? I know some have recommended that you shed "disposable" layers that will be donated. But, I am not sure how warm/cool to dress for costume. Also, being that I have no idea how long the race will take me, I afraid I'll be too hot at the end.

We are planning to purchase our park tickets through the sports (IRun) people...can we use Disney giftcards for that?

Thanks!

also-we are staying at the Boardwalk Villas when we are there for the 5K. Any suggestions on how we can get to EPCOT the morning of the race? We will have 8 adults and 2 babies. We have been to WDW many times but never with babies and we usually stay at a host resort. Thanks!

I would plan for a costume that can be worn in warmer weather, then decide what layers you can add if the weather is cooler. All my costumes for marathon weekend can be worn with pants or long sleeves underneath if it is cold. Arm warmers are a good option for races that may or may not get warm enough to ditch long sleeves. Throw aways are great if it is slightly chilly before the race. You have to wait a long time before the start, but once you start running you'll feel about 15 degrees warmer. I just wear throw aways over all my clothes, that way they are easy to take off and throw to the side before or shortly after you start running.

We were at the boardwalk villas last year for princess weekend. We had to take a taxi to the start of the 5k. That was really our only option besides renting a car for the day. After the race we ended up taking the monorail to MK and catching a bus back to the Boardwalk since there aren't any buses back to the boardwalk from the front of the park, and the park wasn't open for us to walk through it yet.

Yep you sure can! That's how I bought my tickets. I called and just bought them over the phone.

The best way is probably going to be getting a taxi, at least to the start. By the time you finish and are ready to go back, you'll be able to either get a taxi or walk through the park. Last year Team In Training did have a bus at Boardwalk because that became their host hotel, but I would not count on them being there again. They were also super gracious to let us use their buses!

The TNT bus wasn't available the morning of the 5k, but considering we'd planned on 3 taxi trips, we were lucky to have the bus for the expo and the 1/2!

Thanks for the direction! Team Sparkle (a diff. company) also has costume suggestions on their website as well. I am torn. Love Tink (she's really much more my personality), but also am really drawn to Aurora (a girl could dream, right?). Only glitch? I hate pink! However, I could get over that if I could just figure out how to throw that funky white cowl / sleeve thing from the Sleeping Beauty dress onto a running top! I know she's pictured with a blue dress sometimes, too, but wouldn't want to be mistaken for Cinderella.

Okay, I just read that last sentence over again. Really, Amy? I think I might be putting a bit too much thought into this.

8 more long runs until the Princess!!!!!

Ya we did have a lot of taxi's planned didn't we?

Although it was a bit pain, at least for me, to find the bus back since none of the volunteers at the race really knew about the TNT bus... It must have taken me like 45 minutes to finally figure out where it was since volunteers were sending me everywhere and anywhere it seemed.

Something I forgot - for Christmas, my sister sent me a travel coffee cup that has "I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world." on it! Love that, but here's what's even better - there is a picture of a girl on a bike, and on the basket is pasted the word "wish". Now, my sister is not on any of these boards and has no idea of this Wish board, so I thought that was pretty cool! On the side it says, "contribute your unique gift to the world". I figure that right now, my unique gift is to stay healthy for my kids and set a good lifestyle example for them (and any other friends who are struggling to get healthy). Way to motivate me in the new year! :goodvibes

Hello Princesses!
I haven't booked my hotel room yet for the weekend, are there any suggestions? Will all of the WDW resorts have buses to the Expo and the race start on the 26th? I'm so new to this, there is so much to figure out!

:-) Jennifer

Finally got past all the holidays' craziness and back to training. I went out for my 9 mile walk/run in about 40 degree weather. As I was just getting into the mood for this, my ipod stopped! Now, I figured that this was a real case of mental toughness. I could go home or just tough it out and finish 9 miles in the silence (I train at a very large, historic cemetery. The residents are always pretty quiet). So, I decided to go for the 9 miles. Well, by the end of the 2 and a half hours, I am loudly singing nonsensical songs that I have made up to all my quiet friends. (One verse went something like this..."Oh, there's a lady walking towards me. I better stop singing out loud or she will think I'm crazy." I did whatever it took. My pace ended up being 16:08 and that was with a lot of hills and little running. Tomorrow, short run training at an indoor track. I guess I won't be singing.

Only the host resorts will offer transportation to the expo and race. If you go to the run disney site you can see which resorts are host resorts. :)

Hi Princesses! I frequently I haven't posted in months but I've been a frequent lurker!
My mom and I are running the Princess as our 1st race. We have been so lucky with this mild winter so far in the NE that we got up to 9miles outside. Weather is turning though so it looks like the next 2 months will be treadmill weather. Any advice?

On a happy note-I booked a massage at the AKL with a GC my DH gave me for Christmas! WooHoo!!

Also, DH was feeling left out so we are currently making plans for the TOT race. Oh that Mouse is sooo good at taking my money!!

Talk about feeling defeated!! I was SO looking forward to talking to my SIL over Christmas since she did the princess and getting to know the ins and outs of everything that goes on until she tells me she finished it in 1:58, WHAT???! R U KIDDING! I'm hoping to finish this thing :( She was very nice about the whole thing and told me as long as I finish, I'm thinking in my head yeah I'll finish alright another HOUR after you :( I know everyone is there to race their own race but since talking to her I'm so sad. I guess it is safe to say she is a runner and has been running her whole life, but still?!?! I haven't been on any of my shorter runs this week or my 3 miler with all the craziness of Christmas going on and the kids being off from school I really dont' want to wake early. Oh well lots of healthy eating this week to hopefully lift my spirits into being healthy and I'll start hitting the pavement soon I guess ;) I have a 9.5 miler this Mon I'm gonna have to do so gotta get my shorter runs in there somehow!

I know how you feel! That is why I haven't talked much about doing the princess to my runner friends, I'm also in the "I hope I can actually cross the finish line" club. Keep your chin up, and remember that you will do the best for YOU
