Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

In ONE WEEK I will have just finished dinner at Saana and will be in DTD having drinks with my friends. :lovestruc princess:

It was pretty nice here today. I am so psyced I got out on the road and did 6.2 miles. It felt so great to be back outside! Might try to get a short run in tomorrow. And probably one more run on Tuesday and that will be it till the Princess!

When is your last run before the big one?

4happybogles-So glad your doc gave you the ok. Just take it easy. I agree, you should keep your corral and go for it. You have overcome so much to get to this point! You can do it! I'm in corral B and will be going slower than I had planned so I don't reagrevate injures that are finally feeling better.

We are Princesses, we are strong, and we WILL do this! princess: GO PRINCESSES!!:cheer2:

I have a pretty simple and silly question.

Do I need a ticket to get into the expo? I haven't bought my tickets yet (yea, I know...) and I was going to get the Park Hopper, but it looks like you need to buy the Park Hopper with the Water Park Fun & More option. Is this true? It seems a little ridiculous to have to pay almost $20 more just to go to the expo....

It was a pretty nice day here too...so nice that we went to a lunch place that was a good mile round trip (doesn't sound like much, but we usually go to a place that is so close that you don't even need a coat in the winter!).

I'm going for 5 miles on Sunday, 2 on Tuesday, and 2 on Thursday. That's my goal...we'll see if it actually happens.

Nope! It's at the ESPN World of Spots complex thing which sometimes does ticketed events, but the expo is a non-ticketed event.

And um, I may or may not have just signed up for the DL half to complete my C2C. And I may or may not have been lurking in this thread forever :)

Thanks! That's what I thought, but you can never be to sure.

I'm also going to do the DL half...I was going to wait until the expo to sign up, but it's already 93% full. So I'm going to take the plunge and do it.

Also, I'm pretty close to just being a lurker too :)

That had been our plan too, but when we saw the jump from 90 to 93% in a day, we jumped in :rotfl:

I did early registration, and my wife said that I was crazy for signing up so far ahead of time. I have been vindicated!

I am doing the DL 1/2 too!

I registered early too and my DH said the same thing!

Does anyone know if you can buy discounted park tickets at the ESPN complex? I read about the 1/2 day tickets, but I'm not sure if I have any days left on my old no expiration ticket from our honeymoon and would like to save the money on tickets if I can. I don't want to miss out on the cheaper tickets though... does anyone know for sure?

Ugh, the crud has hit my family. Started over the weekend but it was only one kid who seemed affected. Slowly my husband has succumbed and now I seem to have something. A cold? Beginnings of the flu? I will fight this! I have a week to get better! I should be okay. I hope. Drank an immune boosting smoothie, doubt it will do much but it was tasty. My race partner/roommate has some cold symptoms too. Healthy vibes! Healthy vibes! To all of us!

I'm still fighting something. Started last Sunday. Hope it is gone by the time we leave for FL on Friday. I'm miserable and cannot even fathom running right now. I know I should be better by next weekend though.....and I guess if I have to just walk parts of it, it won't be the end of the world since I still get a week of vacation at Disney. Just hope that won't be the case......and that my family does not catch this as we are leaving!

Okay princess runners, I need your help. I need encouragement and inspiration!
I have been training for this half marathon for a year now. I ran my first 5K last Feb with a run time of 32 minutes. Since Feb I have ran in 15 5K's, I have done 2 10K's and I have managed to turn in a time of 2:10 when I run my 13.1 miles in training. My fastest 5K since last Feb was an amazing 25:10 (ran in 31 degree weather at that!!) I have made so much progress and have worked so hard. (I should mention, I had an illness 4 years ago that effected my brain, I was no longer able to walk, eat, or remember things, the fact that I can even run again is HUGE to me, it took me over a year to figure out how to walk up steps!)
Then in Jan I broke two toes, I am a fighter, so I let them rest a 2 weeks and went back to training. I knew my finish time was was going to be closer to 2:30 with the toes, but i was still very happy with that... well then last weekend, Saturday, somehow, while running, I tore my meniscus and my lateral tendon. I have been to the doctor, we have been doing a lot of talking and going over options, thankfully nothing is seperated. She is debating giving me the green light to try and do the half next weekend. I have already come to terms with the face I cannot run the whole thing, I just want to do it, prove to myself I am going to get through this and I can do this. I think with the time I turned in for my 10K I should be in coral B (ish) Would it be horrible to start in B and just walk?? I know that is where most of the runners are, but I am thinking if i can stay to the side, I might be able to get through this....Everyone is telling me no, don't, you shouldn't, but I really need to hear, give it a try, we understand, if you can handle the pain we support you.. I figured there might be someone on this board who might feel the same way as I do and just let me know I am not nuts!! I just needed to share and get this off my chest, I don't ever want to feel like I gave up just as I got the finish line!

Do what your doctor says.......if the doc says you can walk it and you are up to it, go for it. I had Plantar faciitis bad last Jan and at the advice of my PT, I went for it SLOWLY AND I was ready to listen to my body and quit if I needed to. IF you try - and please only with your doctor's blessing only is my advice, just be mentally prepared to quit if you need to. I was in corral B last year and had no problem knowing I was going to be slow. I just stayed over to the side and let everyone pass me. I understand wanting to finish with an injury, been there...BUT if you go against your doctor's advice you risk hurting yourself and not being able to run for a VERY long time best case. I don't think you want this.

In regards to the park tickets, you just need to change the drop down option for "Water Park Fun & More" to "NO" if you don't want that. You can also drop the park hopper option if you wanted. They really offer great prices.

I registered as soon as the Princess opened and have even run a half before. But I've been having IT Band problems since just before Christmas, so I'll probably be mostly walking it :( I was hoping to see how I was afterwards before committing to DL, but my 2 friends who are doing the Princess with me talked me into it :rotfl:

I signed up DH & kids for the free Chear Squad. Do I need to pick up anything at the Expo for that or is it just the paid Chear Squad packages that have waivers and pickups?

Please disregard this if you want.:goodvibes I don't know if you are finding some relief from the itbs but I wanted to share what I do. I had nasty itbs last year. Felt like a hammer in my knee. I went to physical therapy for it, did the foam roller, strengthening exercises, etc. But what helped me the most was a stretch my pt for my foot recommended this fall.

Lay on your back. Legs straight out. Bend one knee and pull it towards your chest and opposite shoulder. Make sure your bottom is flat. You should really feel it in your glutes. Hold for 30 seconds and switch. Repeat a couple of times a day.

I also switched shoes. I had been fitted for shoes but when I lost 50 pounds I stopped pronating and developed a slight suppination. No one could believe I had stopped pronating--I guess that doesn't happen too often. The stability shoes were making the itbs much worse.

Itbs is so awful. I hope you can find something that works for you.

No one from my family has ever picked anything up. Someone might correct me if I'm wrong, but the free package just includes the info on the website about spectator areas and how to track your runner.

Where are you seeing the discounted ticket prices? We have APs, but our friend (who is also racing) needs tickets. Can you direct me to where to find them? Thanks!
