Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

Hi everyone. Just bumping up the thread and letting everyone know, Run Disney updated the website with Training schedules for the Disneyland Half. The Galloway plans on Run Disney start the week of May 1st.

I'm still trying to decide exactly what plan I planning on using. For my first 2, I used Bingham/Hadfields "Marathoning for Mortal". For my last one, I used mostly MFM with some Jeff Galloway inspired element. Right now, I've got 3 different Galloway Goal plans. Right now, I'm thinking about combining what I like about them, with what I like about MFM to come up with my own unique plan.

I'm either doing beginning run a half from MFM for DL Half and (99% sure) W&D and then fishtailing that into the beginning run a full from MFM or just doing the Full plan with modifications for the HMs with help from Coach Jenny. We shall see.

I really liked John and Jenny's MFM plans for my first 2 halfs. I did the walk plan for my first and a slightly modified walk/run for the seconds. As written, I'm not ready for the run/walk plan. My current PR is 2:51:02 from April 3rd. I would like to come close to that at DL and be able to enjoy the rest of my vacation. So, I'm wanting to turn Race pace into solid run (but not all out) pace. Right now, I'm looking at basing my training on "Galloway's Book Of Running" 2:45 goal plan. But factor in things I like from MFM, and new things included in the Run Disney plan.

ETA: I was looking at the Rundisney sight and Think I found the plan for me. It's actually the middle of the W&D plan Time improvement plan. The W&D plan is a slightly modified plan that includes running Disneyland. I have a goal 5K june 10th and would start the plan after that in week 4 and finish week 15 with the race.

Thanks for letting us know! I think I'll start my training May 1st :)

Happy Easter everyone!

I just emailed my TNT mentor about the fundraising minimums for this race. I don't know why, but all of a sudden I got the urge to do this race. Luckily TNT still has spots available for it. Let's cross our fingers that the fundraising isn't insane. I'm going to start the Galloway training today like the program calls for, just in case. Ooh, I may get the C2C medal!!

Galloway DL training plan starts today! 30 minute run after work for me. I'm going to try to train in VFFs for this race and see how my body handles it.

Good luck! Have you been using VFFs at all yet? If not, it's really not recommended to go even from 0 to 30 minutes. My good friend who uses them started out - under her PT's care and supervision - at no more than 5 minutes at a time at first for the first couple of weeks, then gradually upped the time in them. She's been in them for a couple of years now and uses them almost exclusively in her training (unless she goes 100% barefoot), but just a couple of months ago ran more than a 10K in them.

I've been using them for 2 months now. I ran a 5K in them 2 weeks ago and I love them!

I just got back from my first training run :) I'm also using Galloway. Boy is it warm here! 82 degrees, I didn't hydrate enough beforehand and I should have also put on some sunscreen! Oh well, lesson learned for Thursday...

Well it's official. I'm signed up to do the DL Half with TNT. I'm getting my C2C medal! And because I'm planning a family WDW vacation, and I'm doing the Princess Half again, I'm buying a Premier Passport. I feel so special. Lol

Good job on getting the first run in.

Welcome to the Group. I would like to get a C2C medal but my break schedule isn't conducive to it.

Supposed to hit 91/93 tomorrow so DW and I will get out after dinner for a quick 5K. The joys of mid-spring in SW Fl. Don't imagine hot weather will be a factor at DL.

John - That's hot. We're supposed to hit 80 tomorrow and Wednesday I thought that was hot.

So, far I'm doing 3 day a week: 4 on Monday, 4 on Wednesday and 6-7 on Friday. I'm working on 5K training right now with that. I'm also working 1 day a week on Continuous running. I'll start peaking for Disneyland in June.

So the Princess was my very first 1/2. I loved it. I only made two full stops (one for a picture with all the Princes and one for a real bathroom with no lines - even though I didn't have to go). Anyone know where the real bathrooms are on this course?

Will we be running around Angels infield? I sure hope so, it was were I was going to park my family to see me. The description doesn't sound like it and I'm frustrated that there is still no course map.

So excited your in. How was your Princess run? I feel in love with the C2C medal at the expo. It is so much prettier in person than on the website.

I want to say that I read somewhere a while back (somewhere on this thread maybe?) that this year the course is taking us around the outside of Angels stadium because there is a day game scheduled there that day. I was pretty bummed when I read that too. I don't know how accurate it is and I haven't looked at the team's schedule or anything, but it does make sense that we couldn't run through there with game day prep going on.

I, unfortunately, have a similar recollection.

Finally booked my airfare so that much closer to being there :) Would've liked a tad cheaper but noticed the better flight times disappearing so decided to bite the bullet-

Now to start long run training now that Everest is over-

Arggpirate:...that just poor planning on somebody's part.

Just booked our room and tickets. We'll be staying at the Embassy Suites South. Had to do it because the price on the rooms had gone up $40/night on their website but had not at Costco.com. Breakfast in the morning and snacks and drinks at night. Good excuses to get to the parks early and leave early. Can't wait!:woohoo:
