Going back to the "tiebreaker" and Bela talking about throwing out scores....

When they showed it on NBC, they took away the next lowest score. Nastia's was 9.0, the Chinese girl was 8.9. So Nastia's lowest score was higher, but the remaining scores were lower. That had to have been so frustrating.

And yet, didn't they know the rules or did nobody ever bother learning them since the chance would be so slim? Marta (?) Karolyi was trying so hard to explain it to Nastia's dad. Of course, he didn't have the wonderful graphic that NBC gave us.

On a side note, what's up with Nastia? She never looks happy. She always looks pissed about something. The only time she smiles is when she knows she's on camera. Shawn however can't seem to stop! I love Shawn!

I don't think you're being fair to Nastia. Just b/c someone doesn't have a permagrin on her face doesn't mean she's not a nice person or pissed. She's concentrating.

Why would she be pissed? She smiles after she's done with her routine or when other girls are done with their routines. How can she not see the cameras? They're less than a foot away. She doesn't let the cameras disrupt her pre-routine routine.

Shawn concentrates before her routines as well. I agree her pre-routine looks aren't as foreboding as Nastia's, but she still has a serious look on her face most of the time before her routine.

Besides, I don't recall Michael Phelps smiling before his races. He always had that stoic look on his face before his races, as well.

I personally like both Nastia and Shawn. I think they're both lovely, young ladies who have represented this country well in and out of competition even when things haven't gone their way.

Well, after last night, I think I'd be pissed too!

But yeah, Shawn is just as cute as a button! Did you see last night, when Bob Costas showed an interview with Shawn and Nastia and pointed out that Shawn is so small that her feet didn't even touch the floor when she sat back in the couch?

Yeah, we were laughing at that at the time. Shawn is really truly 16. And she is very short. I don't think gymnastics has stunted her growth to any great extent because it looks like her mom is about 4'10" or 4'11". But look at Shawn's body compared to the bodies of the Chinese 14 year olds....she's about twice as wide as they are and looks like a massive muscle woman compared to them.

Yeah, I saw it during the interview and had a small chuckle. I'm sure she's used to it by now, though. Oh, and she is cute as a button.

It was frustrating to me, I know that. I just don't understand why giving two gold medals is so horrible. The IOC really needs to re-think that.

I think you did imply that when you compared two people and favored one in your comparison. It sounded like a judgment to me, not an observation. But that's just my opinion though.

Right back at you about "chilling" though. We don't have to agree. It wouldn't be the DIS if we all agreed all the time.

me too...exactly...I guess they show it in order but IDK...I didnt go to sleep till almost 2am last night watching the ping pong an USA lost. Plus what ever else is on..

It's Wed. night at 11 EST/10 CST.

I already know how beam ended, so I was "safe" to go to nbcolympics.com.

I'm too weak to not look at the results. I have to know.
