I'm in the process of trying to purchase a hp printer...I dont know much about printers but the salesman recommended model # 6280 all in one (printer,scanner,copier).....this one requires black ink, plus 5-6 more colored cartridges...magenta,yellow,green,etc....so you have to replace them individually as the color runs out....not sure if that's better or worse then having to buy the black ink, and the tri color....

Can someone please give me some advice.....thank you!

I have an HP2610 All in One and I feel like it uses alot of ink. The cartridges are the most expensive to replace. I just print common stuff, homework, mapquest directions. I rarely, if ever, print photos. My printer does not use the individual ink colors.

Do you need a printer, scanner, copier? I thought I needed the 3 in one but after really thinking about it all I really needed was a good printer. So I got an hp with a good picture printing quality. Just check out the ink prices on several models and the amount of pages it will print. Thats how I decide when buying a printer.

We have an HP Photosmart C5280(all in one) that we bought a few months ago. I love it. I'm just now replacing the black ink for the first time, and the color cartridge is still going strong. We are a family of 5 and print an average amount(can't give a number....several pages a week at least). I spent $14.92 at Walmart today for the cartridge. It was on an end cap with TONS of different HP inks....every one was $14.92. Our last printer was a Lexmark and the cartridges were $35 a piece. It was cheaper to buy a new printer! I love this one!:)

I use an HP all-in-one printer. I set the print quality lower than the default. It saves a ton of ink and I really can't see much difference in quality.

I have a HP c7180 (all in one) and love it. I've had it a year and still haven't replaced ink. I print pics and alot of graphics. It's wireless and bluetooth enabled so it is very easy to print from my palm, camera, cell phone etc. without downloading first.

I have the HP Photosmart 3210 all in one printer. I love mine, and I've had it for 2 years, I think. Before this printer, I had an old Canon that put all the ink colors into one cartridge...I felt like I was throwing away perfectly good ink sometimes because a certain color would run out before the rest. I think this printer with the separated cartriges is better.

As someone else suggested, you can change the printer settings to a lower quality for most of your printing, and you won't notice a big difference. Just put it to higher quality if you are printing something really important, or printing pics.
