Off Topic - Christmas Card Request

My coworker sent this email to everyone in our company yesterday. We are only a small company (about 150 people), so I am hoping my DisBoards friends can help us stuff this boy's mailbox with extra holiday wishes. Most of us have children, and for those of us lucky enough to not have faced this type of adversity - hold your child extra tight tonight as you stamp one extra card and drop it in the mail...

Hi Everyone,

My cousin Nate Elfrink is 7 ½ years old and has been fighting cancer his entire life. They thought the tumor was finally gone earlier this year, but we found out last week that it has returned and is growing more rapidly than ever. Unfortunately, there is not much more they can do for him. His last wish is to receive as many Christmas Cards as possible, (hopefully 1 million)! If you get a moment, could you please send a Christmas card to Nate?

This story has really touched me! I'm going to have my DS8 make up a nice card to send to him tomorrow! I lost my wonderful grandfather this Oct. to cancer. I can't imagine losing a child....

Thanks for putting the time into confirming the story. I should have done that in the original post.

I still can't get this little guy out of my mind. He was all over our local news outlets this weekend lighting his small-town's Christmas tree.

I will say again, after a long, wonderful weekend with my children - hug your little ones close, folks. There, but for the grace of God, goes any one of us...

The snopes website just listed that as of Dec. 15 the family has requested that no more cards be sent.

Thanks for that update! I'm sure his parents are overwhelmed right now, and this just added to it. I had the card addressed and stamped, but I won't send it. They don't need the added burden!

If you follow up on that link, it says towards the bottom that as of December 15th, the parents have requested no more cards be sent. They have received so many cards that the family can no longer keep up with them all. Now they are requesting that instead of sending a card, a donation be made in Nate's name instead. Just wanted to bump the thread with some new information! Lots of prayers for this family!

Edit: Wow, guess I'm not the only one who saw that.....still sending lots of prayers his way!
