Off topic challenge, come inside!!!

Is it possible to see how far off topic a thread can naturally progress? A social experiment perhaps, is it allowed, will it be tolerated, is fun allowed, pretty please??:hyper:

I start with this topic: Does anyone remember the department stores' names before the current ones? I know Filene's used to be GFOX. Was JCP anything before that? What did Woolworth's turn into?

First "the rule".

I have to admit I haven't read all the responses but what is the deal with those oranges?

We go to Chicago frequently, where the downtown Macy's is still called Marshall Field's.

I also saw KC and the Sunshine Band in concert. W get great bands at our local festivals and I can just walk or ride my bike up

I saw KC and The Sunshine Band at Pleasure Island!! :guilty: *pours a 40 for PI* :drinking:

And yes @kimblebee Filene's Basement was a discounted offshoot of Filene's a department store found throughout the Tri-state :)
Annnnd I am crying cuz I am laughing so hard just reading this thread, you are all precious beings and have made my night :rotfl::thumbsup2

I have never seen an episode of Magnum P.I.

I have never seen an episode of Magnum P.I.

I have never seen an episode of Knight Rider, neither in the 80s nor the newest version. It seems like a really dumb premise but apparently my husband watched it as a kid.

I've never seen Matlock.
My dad loved that show. I would go off and play Barbies...

Yeah, I think I have seen clips. My mom used to watch it. Don't think I have ever watched a complete episode.

I was in college when it started (just looked it up) and didn't watch much TV in those days.

I am sure either is fine. As long as you throw the cup in someone else's trash once you finish, then they will absorb the calories and not you. That is how we did it in college.

This made me laugh!!

My daughter is driving me nuts with all the crap she wants to buy for her college dorm room this fall!

See, and I am the happy mother of a community college student. Yup, I admitted it, my college kids is in community college and lives at home.

I really don't belong here.

WHAT? Do tell as I have not heard of this new show. I wish my house would be chosen for love it or list it on HGTV

Well, since this is an OT thread anyway here goes!!

https://www.netflix.com/title/80044950

Found a letter in our mailbox one day that Netflix was filming a new show and our house had some of the qualities they were looking for. Totally random. They had a location scout just driving around the Hudson Valley and Long Island. After checking online to make sure it was not a scam called back and after some more visits from the director, producers and one of the stars they decided on our house for the main character's house, Prairie Johnson. Any of the scenes shot in Prairie's room or where her parents are in the house (Abel and Nancy) were shot in our house. A few exterior shots of our house as well.

It was a fantastic experience. They emptied our house of most furniture but kept and used our bedroom set, our dining room set and our kitchen table/chairs. They repainted rooms, wallpapered some rooms and brought in all their own stuff for the show. They wanted an early 90's look so took out and stored our stainless appliances and put in almond colored ones and also covered our granite counter top with Formica. They packed all our stuff in a climate controlled storage facility and put us up in a hotel with meal allowance for the time they were at our house. We loved the experience!! All we had to do was pack what we wanted at the hotel and that we would need and they took care of everything else. They treated us wonderfully. They spent several days at the end of filming putting our house back to exactly the way it was so removed wallpaper and repainted in the colors we had. They took over 1,000 pics of our interior so they could put everything back exactly...even down to the stuffed animals on the shelf.

Scott Wilson from Walking Dead fame is one of the main characters. He plays Prairie's dad in the show. It is an "out there" show involving other dimensions and such but we enjoyed watching it.

That is one of the coolest things I have read happening to a DISer. Thankfully you were set up in a nice hotel, not sent to claim new land like on Little House on The Prarie
