just booked a cruise with Royal Carribean, as the price was too good to pass up. This will be the first cruise i have been on by myself...

has anyone out there got any tips or info on majesty of the seas? is cocoa cay good snorkeling? I am guessing you can do this on your own if you have your own equipment.

any info would be appreciated

You Go Girl!!!!!! :p (in re: cruise with just yourself--)

I also love to travel (and have even thought of going by myself on some trips, just haven't had the guts to try it yet). Notice you are from Iowa---Maybe its just us poor midwestern folk wanting to "see the world"? ;)

Will never forget DH & my first trip to Hawaii and person @ hotel asked us how we lived in Nebraska, did we have good utilities, necessities? Probably thought we used outhouses!!

Anyway, sorry I have no info for you, but you inspire me! Hope to hear how well your trip goes, especially as you "go it alone".

thanx for the encouragement. I am feeling just a bit guilty not taking my guys...

it has been a rough past few months for me. My mother had colon cancer, and i was the care taker. Then after my mother passed away, i had to pack up and get my dad moved in with my family and get their home sold. I feletlike i need a break just all to myself...

Anyway, i am excited to be able to go snorkeling soon, and am looking forward to checking out a different cruise line.

I LOVED snorkeling on Cocoa Cay! I thought there was much more to see, however, the area is not as protected as Castaway Cay......I've heard sometimes the waves can be rougher. Remember this...........if you go out to where the plane is submerged, ask the life guard in the chair there to throw out some fish food, then you go under water and you will see the most incredible fish swimming right around you! It's incredible!! I saw a lot more fish, different kinds, saw an octopus.....

Also, take a walk around the beaches. Although they don't have an "adult beach" like serenity bay, there is a LONG stretch of beach that is virtually empty......a couple chairs, no waves, no music.....beautiful quiet walk

You'll also notice that the tide really affects the main beach. In the few hours we were there, the beach completely changed and we had to move our chairs about 15 feet or so back from where we started in the morning.

prymsu - We took a girls-only trip on the Majesty last month (10 women)! We had a ball. The Majesty is very nice and you will be treated very well. Make sure to visit Steve in the Crown lounge and ask him to sing you a James Taylor song - great for the soul! Just make sure to tell him that the Boston Babes say hi! If I were by myself and needing a little tlc, I'd spend some major time in the spa and the sauna. I hope you have a wonderful time - there's nothing like the ocean and a little pampering to heal a weary soul. Have fun.

You deserve the cruise after everything you have been through. I am going with my BF on a 3 day RCCL SOS cruise in August and with visit Cocoa Cay too. I can't wait, I also felt guilty about not taking my guys (2 & 5) but hey I am taking them on the 10/25/03 Magic. My BF still lives in San Diego and we now live in NC so it will be a great "Mommy's only" trip. Have fun!!!

Snorkeling is great at CocoCay! They have just upgraded the beaches, indoor facilities and added a aqua park, we had our first snorkeling experience here many years back and have enjoyed everyone since. Plenty of fish, rays. You can bring your own gear to use. Even if you are on your own there is plenty of 'life guard' in boats floating around if you get into any trouble. Once my hubby and I were snorkeling and i popped up to see where he was and waved at him and suddenly I had 2 boats by my side to 'help' me, none were needed. but it is nice to know its there if you do. The crew working the snorkeling shack were very helpful pointing out where the best areas were and getting people started who were newbies.
Have a great time. We are sailing on RCI in October.

My husband and I were just on the Majesty this last November. It is a beuatiful ship and we enjoyed ourselves very much.

We were able to go to Cocoa Cay 7 years ago when we were on a cruise with them. But in November the weather was too bad for us to tender in so we were unable to go. We had a full day planned too. We were renting jet-skis in the morning and then going parasailing then in the afternoon we were going to snorkel. It was so disapointing not to go! The things they planned for us on the ship that day, were pretty boring. But what do you expect at the last minute :(

Good luck and I hope you get plenty of rest.

thanx everyone for all the good info about snorkeling. I have my own equipment, and i will be snorkeling from the minute i get off the ship until i have to get back on. Do you have to take a tender to get to this beach?

Also thanx for the kind words. I am sure a little rest, relaxation and time to myself will help me bounce back and try to be ready to return to a normal routine.

Yes you do have to tender. I have been looking for snorkeling equipment and it looks like to get a set and good value but decent set I will need to purchase it on line...............

Hey Sue,
Sorry to hear about your lost, I don't know what I would do if it were my Mom.

We are doing the same thing this year, just booked an RCCL cruise for Oct 11, 2003 1/2 the cost of DCL for the same time.
My brother and wife are take the 3 year (will turn 3 on the trip) and the 10 mo old to WDW for a week, and are taking Mom as a nanny so they can have fun at night, then I fly out and we drive down to Miami and do the Navigator of the Sea on the eastern cruise, will hit 6 Hard Rock Cafe's this trip.

Take Care

aka HRCCrazy

Hi John! How are you? I am sure still building up your massive pin collections. I know what you mean on the price of RC. I am going by myself and for a superior ocean view i paid 607 total. I am hoping i won't have balcony withdrawls...

Say hi to Mom!

take care, Sue

i couldn't tell much difference by looking at them. If it were me, i would go with the least expensive set. Just my thoughts...
