We are planning a trip to Disney in January and have decided to look off-site this year. We usually stay at POR but with our growing family of 5 the rooms are shrinking. I came across Windsor Hills and it seems really nice and affordable. I found a 3bd/3bath townhouse for a total of $700 for 6 nights including the heated splash pool. Is this a good price? (POR was $1100 for the same 6 nights) Any advice for renting off-site? We will have a car, but any tips, etc would be greatly appreciated.

I think that is a very good price for WH. You might be getting a deal because you are going in January.

Yeah, I agree that it is a good price for a townhouse with splash pool heat. :thumbsup2 You can use the $400. you save on tickets.
There's lots of places to eat within 3 minutes of WH. You'll only be 5 min from AK parking lot and just 10 - 15 to the other parks. Allow about 45 minutes if you're going to rope drop at MK. This will give you plenty of time to the MK parking lot, tram, monorail and bag check at the gate. We only allowed 30 minutes last time and were at the bag check when the train came in with the characters.
Here's my google map of the area:

It does sound like a good deal, if the taxes and pool heat are included. TIPS:

  • Driving: You already have one map linked, but print yourself some other maps to have handy, to and from each park. Or use a GPS if you have one. Give yourself a little extra time at first for driving, while you learn your way around. One shortcut is Sherberth Road which goes off of 192 into WDW near the Animal Kingdom, onto the Osceola Pkwy.
  • Shopping and Food: plan your at home eating around your WDW dining. One mistake people make is to overbuy. For food, if you will eat breakfast everyday "at home" just buy that, bottled waters/few snacks to carry into the parks, and maybe a few late night snacks. Do not shop like you are at home for a week, unless you do not plan on eating out. You will also need the minimal laundry, cleaning supplies, that you can probably bring from home.

FWIW: all that extra space (and TVs, bathrooms, kitchen, laundry) can be addictive. With your growing family, you may find it hard to return to a normal hotel room. Enjoy your trip!

I think you got a very good price. I reserved a 3br TH in Windsor Hills for March and 7 nights w/ heated pool will cost us $1029 (w tax). This will be our first time off site and looking forward to having the extra rooms. Enjoy!

I paid more than that for a 3 bedroom windsor hills condo (not a townhome with it's own pool) which of course we wanted !! - but we are going for April vacation. we spent $825 :upsidedow
