Off site hotels on New Year's Eve?

We're going to stay 12/31 and 1/1/12 off site before heading to WDW. Are the rates going to be crazy expensive like they are at Disney hotels? We haven't made reservations yet and don't really have any particular hotel in mind yet. I'm hoping to find a good deal via Mousesavers or maybe do Priceline closer to our travel date.

TIA!

Probably. In addition to the Christmas-New Year crowd (biggest of the year), the Citrus Bowl is downtown New Years Day, so fans come into town for that.

Ugh! I didn't know about the Citrus Bowl. We are not football people. Maybe we will stay closer to Legoland in Winter Haven. Thanks for the heads up!

Even with the Citrus Bowl and NYE I'm certain you can find reasonably priced hotels,I would book them ASAP to get the best rates available. As far as hotels in Winter Haven closer to Legoland,I'm fairly certain you'll get much lower prices in or around Orlando as Orlando has so many thousands of hotel rooms the prices rarely if ever get outrageous for offsite hotels.I just did a quick search on Hotwire for New Years eve through 1/2/2012 and they had hotels as low as $31 with 3 star hotels as low as $38 and up.
