So I need some dirt to convince my DH that we need to rent a car. Our hotel offers free shuttle to all of the parks. He thinks since we are going to be there for 10 night we can afford the time it takes to shuttle.

Thanks

Call the hotel, get the answers to the questions that I previously posted. Either post or PM and I'll try to come up with a strategy. If you're not going to rent switch hotels.

I had a friend stay at the summerfield suites in March 7 nights no car...The hotel was wonderful great price...i couldn't convince him to rent a car...(money was a big issue) On the flight home he said he would definately stay on site or rent a car....He spent lots of his time waiting on a shuttle...

Example...a large group of us went to Chef Mickey's...He went downstairs to wait for the shuttle..we finished the bill up and headed down about 5-8 mins later...we passed them as we headed over to watch fireworks at MK...We waited for the start and then watched the entire show. Walked back to our car at Contemp. drove the 8 mins to Summerfield suites arrived at like say 9pm....my friend didn't arrive back with his familiy until about 9:30...He was either waiting for or riding on the bus for at least 1hr 20mins...and it was absolutely pouring at one point....he said the time frame was about par for the most part....

That makes sense. I know the owners of that hotel own about 4 others in the area and I bet the shuttle services at least all of those hotels if not more.

This is the ONLY time you'll see me saying "Rent a car!" versus taking the shuttle. Off property shuttles can be a nightmare.

There's no money to be made in running hotel shuttles. As such, most every shuttle bus is old, beat up, run down, and couldn't pass a DOT inspection without $50 being taped to the license plate. Buses run without A/C, bald tires, missing body panels, not a working tail light in sight... plain and simple, they're unsafe. FL DOT is very laid back... horrible about enforcing the MANY violations these companies have.

Listen to Tyler, you people! While not every off-site shuttle will be as bad as he describes, I'm sure he has worse stories he could tell if he chose to.

Indeed.

Like the bus where everyone was singing, "The wheels on the bus go round and ro-- whoa! Where did the wheel go?!"

I've seen two shuttle companies have wheels fall off while driving.

I tell you... I have my complaints about Disney Transport and whatnot (they're mostly trivial show quality stuff)... but at least our buses are safe. We do nightly and daily safety inspections and pre-trips... and if a bus doesn't pass, even for the smallest of reasons, it doesn't get put into service. That's one of the benefits of having a large fleet... always another bus to trade it out for.
