I am a veteran Disneyworld visitor, making our first trip to Disneyland in a few weeks. We are looking for a clean, affordable hotel preferably within walking distance to the park. We are traveling with my brother and his family, as well as a childhood friend, so we need three separate rooms. He is military and can get the discount at some locations.

We are leaning toward the Days Inn and Suites (on Harbor Blvd). Any other recommendations? We have three kids under the age of seven, and will be spending all day at the parks. A free breakfast buffett would be a nice bonus.

We have stayed at HOJOs and BWPPI and would at stay at either one again.
Both are within walking distance and are clean and comfortable.

With CarsLand opening up on the 15th availability might be a little tough.
Good luck and have fun!

Right now the Carousel inn and suites has deals going on. They are advertising it everywhere. Its basically right on the Disneyland cross walk. Its clean, affordable, and no shuttle is required. 5 minute walk to the turn styles and you off and running. I also stay at the Tropicana Inn and suites right beside the Carousel, and I like a PP will also recommend the Howard Johnson.

I would suggest google earthing Harbor Blvd and seeing which hotels are in the hotel areas that we mentioned. When you see the crosswalk in front of the Carousel and Tropicana which is the Disneyland Entrance, you can look into the hotels around that area. Then you know what you are up against. But those would be my recommendations. I would try and avoid going to hotels where you have to shuttle it. It takes too much time when you have tired kids, and you as well will be tired at the end of a fun day.

I usually don't mess with any of the fleebags across the street from Disneyland. Just a little farther away down Harbor is the Embassy Suites. Good size rooms and an unbeatable buffet every morning. They also have happy hour in the evening with free drinks and snacks.

While not within walking distance, they do have a free shuttle to and from the park.

We like the Best Western Park Place Inn (BWPPI), the Park Vue Inn (PVI) and the Candy Cane Inn (CCI). They are all older motel style, where you door opens to outside rather than in to a hallway. But, all are clean, affordable and very close to the parks.

The PVI or the CCI both have better breakfast than the BWPPI. The CCI is a little further than the other two, but has a shuttle that runs every 1/2 hour- and its walking distance if you miss the shuttle. Pool is small at all of them- but the CCI and PVI have nicer pool areas than the BWPPI.

The Dobies like the Anaheim Sheraton. It is not walking distance, but they have a very convenient shuttle. It is about a five minute drive. We like the Sheraton because the rooms are large and there is a nice pool area.

I usually do either the Howard Johnson or Fairfield Inn when offsite. Howard Johnson is less expensive but Fairfield Inn is marginally nicer IMO. I'm a heavy Marriott Rewards user so that tends to tip the scales toward Fairfield Inn, but they're basically in the same location and very comparable.

Not sure if you know this but BWPPI now serves waffles, sausage and a scrambled egg patty.

Back in 2007, I thought the food offerings were good. Now it's even better.

We always stay at the BWPPI. It is always clean, and the staff has always been very nice and helpful. The rooms are a fine size, and the have mini suites. So 2q and a sofa bed. The breakfast has stuff I normally eat for breakfast. Cereal and coffee, plus they have biscuits and gravy, pastries, fruit, yogurt, juices. It was fine, and it is included. The best thing about BWPPI is the location. It is the closest to the gates. That's a big deal after a long day in the park, or when forget something and have to run back to the room.

Thanks for all of the recommendations! We ended up at the Best Western Stovall's Inn (BWPPI was booked). Spending four nights there then heading to San Diego for Legoland, San Diego Zoo, and Safari Park. Almost ended up sleeping in the car in San Diego, since Comic Con (had never heard of it before now) is there when we are and everything was either booked or had prices double the normal.
