We are thinking about a February trip to combine both Disney and the beach, but are too short on points for Vero. Can anyone recomend any fairly reasonable beach places not too far away? Thanks!

We're from RI, so we realize it may not be that great for ocean swimming in February, but anything is better than freezing!

There are a myriad of choices. Any suggestions would vary greatly with the number of days and number of people in your party. First thought would be VB on cash or one of the Marriott's. Also anywhere at Captiva or Sanibel. For non timeshare options, the number of great resorts are TNTC but realize that is the peak time for the coast for Mid FL on down. If you're driving and not flying, I'd consider HH. It's easy to get and cheap and still quite nice though not beach weather.

Cocoa Beach-we stayed at the Hampton Inn once and it was pretty nice and reasonably priced for being right on the beach.

Vero on cash.

St. Augustine-it may be a little chilly in Feb. You could probably find some great rates. They have several chain hotels like Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express that are on the beach.

Clearwater Beach/Indian Rocks Beach/Sand Key.

Flagler Beach-no chain hotels but a few "mom and pop" motels that are very cute. You really can't do better than this town for relaxation. It is slow paced and still has a small town atmosphere. You can look on some of the Florida tourism websites and pick where you want to go and how much you want to pay and it will give you a list. flausa.com is great. Sorry in advance if I shouldn't post that.

Well...if the Cocoa Beach area appeals to you, you could try the Royal Mansions (www.royalmansions.com). We stayed there last year the first part of November. It ain't Disney, but it's right on the beach, has great sunrises over the ocean (I suppose every place does, but we found them memorable). The accommodations are clean, though a little timeworn, and pretty reasonable, we thought. If there will be a shuttle launch anywhere around the time you're there, you would have a fantastic view...we really wish we'd have been there for one, but they kept rescheduling it. You can watch the cruise ships, including DCL, sail in and out, too. Darling little tiny lizards everywhere on the grounds, if you like lizards...the grounds were well kept and the people were friendly, the pool was adequate. We'd go back if time allows on the next trip.

We have stayed at Adam's Mark, Holiday Inn Sunspree and Sheraton Sand Key all on Clearwater Beach!!

We love the gulf coast, especially since we visit the east coast beaches in Maine all the time!!! Gulf coast is nice and warm and calm...............well, anything is warm compared to Maine water!!
