Does anyone know of any sites, lists, etc. with restaurants that are just off-property? Fast food, mid scale, nice....crab leg buffets????? lol

I would google Kissimmee restaurants and get lots of links.

Along Highway 192 is just about every single fast food and chain restaurant in America. About the crab leg buffets - watch the prices - they aren't cheap.

We are from the UK so we spend 2-3 weeks out in Orlando and not just at Disney (don't shoot me! :rotfl: )... we've eaten out at lots of places off-site and these are the ones we like!

The Outback Steakhouse... a good burger and steak place with amazing onion rings.

The Olive Garden... an Italian - it was lovely when we first started eating there but hasn't been as nice on our last few trips.

Margaritaville... this is at Universal City Walk. The menu is a real mix and it has a great atmosphere.

The Cheesecake Factory... at Mall at Millennia. A HUGE menu with HUGE portions and around 80 types of Cheesecake!

We, er, also went to Hooters! :rolleyes1
It was just fun! :rotfl:

Hope this helps a little bit xxx

Seasons 52 is a great Darden restaurant......its more towards upscale, but great......its in Sand Lake, on the ritzy side of I-4

We just got back and I hate to say this, because for the most part I think giant chains are evil and hurt local economies, but it's quite hard to find a good place to eat down there anymore that isn't a chain.

I'm not saying that they aren't around. I am sure they are, but most of the buffet's are real bad now and the smaller restaurants are hit and miss. The Chains like Perkins, Olive Garden and the rest have a higher power to live up to and as such are as likely to shrug off a customer having a bad experience.

We went to Bill Wong's Buffet based on the recommendation in the Unofficial guide to WDW w/kids and it was BRUTAL. Mind you we did go about 45 minutes before closing, but the trays were half empty or less, only 3 items were refilled in the entire time we were there and the majority of it appeared to have been sitting for well over an hour already.

We went to another one the following night as my daughter likes buffets, and unfortunately I can't remember the name but it had fewer selections ( during normal dinner hours ) and the taste was horrible. ( although it was stocked well ).

The dinner we had at Olive Garden was good tasting for a chain, but the service was actually a little better than we expect from them.

We found Perkins to be a nice place for breakfast, decent food and not bad prices... very much like a Friendly's to those from the Northeast...

But out of the 5 non chains that we tried to eat at, only 1 was good enough to return to. That is not such a good percentage. Stick with the larger chains if you want to be safe.

Here's my list:
Romano's Macaroni Grill
Chili's
Margaritaville
Emeril's
Tchoup Tchop
BJ's Brewhouse
Whataburger
Qdoba
Jersey Mike's
Panera Bread
Publix Supermarket Deli

What about the Japanese restaurant that the podcast crew recommends? It is in the Downtown Disney Hilton, so you wouldn't even have to drive! I just forgot the name...:confused3

Keep in mind it opens at 4 p.m.

Not sure if it is everyday, but at least on the 2 days I tried to get there. Plus it's $8. to park in the lot... they may have some sort of discount or waive it if you are only there for the restaurant, but I didn't get to eat there because one day we tried to early ( but you don't have to pay if you leave the parking lot right away ) and the other they couldn't seat us for an hour.

The area is mostly big chains, and tons of them. Crossroads (just down the road from DTD) has a Red Lobster, Fridays, Fudruckers, Perkins, Uno's, Sweet Tomatos, Chevy's and a Taco Bell and Mcdonalds. You could reasonably walk to any of those from dtd.

They are actually building a new benihana near Seaworld, but I don't think it is open yet.

Like others have mentioned, there are tons of restaurants. We only tend to do restaurants that we don't have at home so Chevy's is always a must do. There's also a Maggiano's on I-Drive which is so yummm. I have seen plenty of seafood buffets down there, just don't know any to recommend because we've never been.
