The new equipment to screen every piece of baggage at OIA has been up and running for a while now, so can anyone explain to me the logic behind Downtown check in not being allowed to open again. If the bags are dropped off and screened, what does it matter where they were checked in?

I'm only guessing here, but maybe it has more to do with cutbacks in the travel industry generally than with the security question.

Even though the UK/Orlando routes haven't suffered the lack of bookings seen elsewhere, presumably the downturn in trade must impact into other areas.

I think Hilary may be right. Some of the American airlines have restored off airport check-in at Port Canaveral (for the Cruise ships departers) and it's been back for some time, so it must be Virgin.
