Looks like we are finally going to bite the bullet and get a new van. I like the nicest trim line in the Odyssey, but we want the abilty to have 8 seats and that one is a 7 seater, so it looks like we'll be getting the EX-L with the Navigation and Entertainment. The Touring trim line comes with the Plus One console between the 2 middle seats, the EX trim line comes with the 8th seat, but we could add the console as an option.

In that case we'd normally not use the 8th seat, but have it when we have relatives visit, etc and need that seat. We'd keep the Plus One console inbetween the 2 seats. But of course Honda charges through the you know what for that console. I don't really mind paying what they charge since I'm spending thousands less by not buying the most expensive trim line, but I want to make sure that I use it.

It would add a nice storage bin and a couple cup holders. There certainly seems to already be a lot of cup holders, so I'm mainly thinking about the storage.

If we decided to wait on that can we buy one in the future?

Thanks!

We have the EX-L, but we opted for the 8th seat, which we use a lot already as it's where DW usually sits (in between the boys) when DS2 is fussy (especially since he's still rear-facing). She likes the seat -- says it's pretty comfortable, even though it's only about 1/2 the size of a regular seat. :)

Sorry, I can't help on the Plus One console, though.

Yeah, we want the 8th seat, too, but thought that this might be a nice add on when we don't need that extra seat. But it's so expensive. Your wife's butt must be smaller than mine because I can't imagine mine fitting that little seat. But I could maybe put my son's booster there since there is a lap belt.

Steven, thanks for the links--I'll check them out!

I'm also thinking about getting the third row sunshade to help with the glare when the kids are playing video games or watching tv. My kids complain about the glare when they are playing their game boys in our current van. Again, though, another expense...

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Her butt (while cute ;) ) uses a little bit of our older son's seat as well, since his booster seat doesn't take up the whole seat. If it was two full sized car seats it might not fit otherwise. :teeth:

I tried to look at the Odyclub site, but had to register to view. When I went to register it said that my e-mail address was banned. :confused3 Sent an e-mail, but am totally confused as to why I would be banned. Tried with another e-mail address and that one didn't work, either.

I can have 23 cups of coffee in my Odyssey! :cool1:

:rotfl2: I'd need a porta potty if I carried that much coffee. I'll have to check, is a porta potty an option? :rotfl:

I found a list of places to order the Honda accessories for less $. So I will hold off on the console.

Don't know about the sunshade since that has to be installed, but it should be an easy install.

Are the kids able to play video games, watch tv, without too much glare (without the sunshade)?

I was able to read on the Odyclub site, but can't search without registering. Strange.

Hey, Bob, you better hope your DW doesn't read this thread. :rotfl2:

DS hasn't complained yet about glare, but considering we've only had it since October, A.) there's not much sun here  and B.) he's never watched anything from the third row seats.

C'mon, stick the kid in the way back seat! LOL

Do you use the shades that are in the middle windows?

Trust me, there's days when we'd love to put him there! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yep, we've used the middle row shades a lot -- I love that they're built-in. What a cool feature that one is!

I threaten my son with that (and he cries at the thought of it). I have no idea why I don't follow through on that threat. Would have been a more pleasant last almost 6 years... :teeth:

I would do it, but he'd probably enjoy it and his little brother would start crying because he likes looking at him whenever we go somewhere.

We'll use all the available seating (and storage) this summer, when we take the van to the Outer Banks -- it'll be our first real test for the van. :)

I just bought an Odyssey EXL-RES. For us, the Odyssey has plenty of storage, the console in the second row wouldn't be needed for us. The nice thing is that when the stow n' go is down there is a nice tray that things can be put on. There are plenty of cup holders, I don't think that I would need anymore.

It sounds like you've decided on the EXL instead of the Touring. While we liked the option of the 8th seat the tires on the Touring were what made me decide on the EXL. They are run flat tires, what that means is that if your tire is flat you can run on it for 150 miles before replacing. What I didn't like about them is that 1) if you get a nail or small puncture in the tire, it must be replaced 2) there have been complaints that they are not wearing as well as "normal tires" 3) they are expensive to replace, I heard that they run around $200 a tire and 4) the tires do not have sidewalls and if you hit a curb they are prone to break. I had a nail in a tire a couple of months ago, it cost me $27 to fix, much better than $200.

We took the Odyssey on a 6 hour car trip over Thanksgiving. It was a great car to travel in. We took my IL's with us and 6 of us and our luggage fit and we were very comfortable. The kids watched the DVD in the third seat. They did not complain about the glare but it is Nov. I wouldn't install the 3 seat sunshades untill summer and see if the glare is bad.

What color are you looking at. We got Sage Brush Pearl with an Olive interior. I love the color combo.

Is Sage Brush the color that looks kind of like Charcoal or the lighter one? I like the charcoal looking one, but am not a big green fan. Sometimes I see it and it looks green and sometimes like charcoal. I was really debating that one and I love the olive leather interior. I'm going with the Desert Rock, though. I don't like the ivory interior as much as the olive, but I like the beige color. Don't know why, but I love that color.

I possibly would have gone for the Touring. My DH likes the run flat tires and I like the power liftgate. But we couldn't get the Touring in an 8 passenger.

I thought about waiting on the 3rd row sunshade, but then we'd have to install. Probably not a big deal (my DH doesn't think it is), but when I see "drill" and "new mini-van" together in the same sentence I panic and think someone else should install. Or I guess a dealer would install aftermarket, too.

The Sage Brush is the charcoal colored one but I think that it looks like a dark green to me. I almost got the slate green but I didn't want sliver and thought that the slate green was too silver to me.

I did not want a beige interior so no Desert Rock. I have a beige interior in my old van and I hated it. I didn't have leather so it might be better but the beige interior showed all the dirt. I read the newspaper in the car and it bleeds all over the car. Personal preferance I guess.

I think that any third row sunshade would have to be installed aftermarket so I don't think that it matters when you have them installed.
