Odds of being upgraded

I have stayed onsite 13 times and I think I am at 3 upgrades.

1 x at CBR
1 x at POR
1 x at AKL

But I might be forgetting one or two in there. Memory lapse on the early trips..

I was offered the upgrade but didn't take it because I hate the contemporary.

Have stayed every year since 1985 for 2 weeks as we travel from uk sometimes twice a year never had an upgrade.

WDW = 32/3 - (1) upgraded to CL, (2) upgraded to deluxe room/Jr suite.
DLR = 29/1 - upgraded to deluxe room/Jr suite.

Both upgrades were at the BC, one a standard to GV and one a standard to WV.

I have only done 25 vacations but I have done split stays on 7 vacations.

1. Upgrade was from BWI CL standard view to BWI CL boardwalk view. I believe we got this one because we know one of the CL CMs at this resort.

2. Upgrade was GF RPC lagoon view to GF RPC theme park view. I believe we got this one because we did a week of the Platinum Plan.

Out of that 7% I would say a majority of them are for 1 or 2 night stays. I've had CMs tell me that is your greatest chance. Both times we were upgraded they were 1 night stays.

The time we were upgraded to a suite was the time that we just wanted to add two extra days to our trip at the last minute and a regular room wasn't available. All of the other upgrades were just view upgrades, from standard or garden to lagoon view.

I would say this is very true. My biggest upgrades (GF GV --> RPC LV & BC CL LV----> VP Suite) were 4 night and two night stays respectively. Holy cow, if we could have had that VP Suite at BC for a week, I'd have tried to return my park ticket and never leave the resort!

2006: We Disneymooned and stayed at POFQ. They upgraded us to a King bed and river view; it was amazing. We paid for standard room/view.

2007: We celebrated our 1 year anniversary. They upgraded us to a king with pool view at WL. We paid for standard room/view.

Both were lovely surprised when we entered our rooms. I have a feeling because we were celebrating something special

We only ever go the last week of August or first week in September; just so happens to fall on our anniversary We got married the final week in August, and the first week in September is the date of our first meeting. So romantic, I know

How do you get down graded??? That doesn't seen right!!!

Out of 20+ stays we were upgraded once at Poly CL paid for GV CL upgrade to CL TPV but that was only b/c we had a ridiculous check in and had to ask for manager but the upgrade wasn't expected!

Several posters have reported this in the past. IIRC, it happened at both value and mod resorts. The only explanation given was that there was unexpected unavailability. If you look very closely at the Terms and Conditions, you are only guaranteed a room. Not necessarily the category of room that you have paid for. In those circumstances, I'd be asking to for a transfer to another resort at the very least.

That would def makes sense as they try to "fill the holes"

Just to throw a kink into that...our 1 upgrade was a 10 night stay. We were upgraded from our standard view YC CL room to a lagoon view YC CL room.
