Oddities Following a Point Transfer

I have a very small, 50 point contract which I purchased on the resale market.

However, I just had someone transfer me 300 points in the 2020 UY. These points were for the same home resort and UY as my contract. As the DVC Member Services told me, these points were not visible on the website.

HOWEVER, once I told them over the phone that I wanted to bank the points:

1. These points DO show up on the site and I am able to make reservations with them online.

2. I logged in on the Disney Annual Pass site (https://www.disneyworld.eu/passes/) and all of a sudden the "Disney Gold Pass" popped up as an option for me to purchase.

My understanding is that the Gold Pass is only supposed to be available to Florida Residents and purchasers of DVC direct contracts (and I think there is even a point minimum).

If I buy a Gold Pass through their site, as it's allowing me to do, what's going to happen if I show up to activate it with my DVC white card?

Worst case scenario they tell you you got it in error and they credit you your money back to use on a different AP.
Best case = you win!

They will not let you activate it without the blue card. The vouchers can be purchased through the website for any guest, but once there, proof has to be shown,

I am surprised you were able to see the points and buy the pass.

I am surprised too!

I’m happy enough just to be able to use the points online, but that Gold Pass sure would be useful next year for me! I figured that was too good to be true, but it also seemed odd that it appeared as an option at all. I’ve never seen it pop up before.

That is very strange. I transferred points from my one contract to the other (I have 2 AKV contracts with 2 different use years) and I want to use them together next year for a 1 bedroom at my home resort. I then banked my 2019 UY points due to my cancelled trip. As expected, the points do not show on my Dashboard and i will have to call to use them.

Interesting.

I think the difference may be because the points transferred to me were both the same resort and the same UY as my contract.

You can usually see transferred points that are the same resort and UY

People have reported for quite awhile that this was no longer the case, it seems even the OP only saw them once banked.

I have family who transfers their small contract to me with same UY and resort. 2 years ago it didn't show. This last year it did. It still seems to be based on the CM but I don't think it's impossible. Perhaps just getting to be fewer CMs that know how to do it that way.

I am white card, and I get the option to buy DVC gold passes at the discounted price. I know I seen it before. So, it has nothing to do with transfers. Of course, I am never going to purchase it, because I know it will just end up being a hassle to even try.

Great3

Good to know!

Even seeing the Platinum Pass at the discounted price looked tempting.

To me there's something wrong with that though. If you log in on the site to buy annual passes, nothing in the fine print on the page says you need to be a blue card DVC member to qualify for those prices. You log in, and it says those are your prices.

For someone who is a white card owner and doesn't spend enough time on these boards to know better, that's dangerously close to false advertising.

I believe that any new resale buyer has to sign an acknowledgement of the restrictions so it would be difficult to claim they did not know they were not eligible. I'd have to look at the AP page to know if they also list it there but either way it's information that is acknowledged all over by DVC and I don't think it's anything like false advertising. I'd guess they would refund your money if you were to accidently purchase and not want to pay the higher price.

Not worth stating the obvious here

However, If you are not eligible to book an affinity discounted AP or ticket but do so ‘by mistake’...

IMO it’s reasonable to expect a credit towards a different ticket. Not to be confused with a refund.
