Does anyone have any products that they have "odd" uses for -- or use for not what it's intended. Such as, I've heard Preparation H actually works to reduce a pimple... something to do with the swelling I think...

This isn't that odd, but I swear by it... Lansinoh (a thick cream used normally for easing pain of breastfeeding) -- works on rashes, cuts, chapped lips, chafing... I guess it's not that much of a stretch, but my dh thinks I'm nuts when I use it on the kids for chapped lips... it works miracles though!

I have heard toothpaste for pimples too. :earboy2:

Bagbalm is sold for people to use on everything from dry skin to minor burns. The kick is it was created for cows nipples while they were milked. Crazy history but I love it!

The one that seems wierd to me is vinegar added to the wash as a fabric softener. It would seem like your clothes would stink!!!

I had a MALE friend who swore by using Preparation H under the eye that it reduced wrinkles.

Baking soda added to any facial cleanser makes a good exfoliating scrub. For the body too.

I use vinegar in my rinsing water in the washing machine. I'm allergic to fabric softener, but vinegar works well.

I use Lansinoh on my babies' bottoms while they're teething. It keeps them from getting diaper rashes.

Try dissolved aspirin on mosquito bites, the sooner after being bitten the better. Use toothpaste to clean scuff marks on tile floor. The Mr. Clean magin erasers are good for that too.

We used duck tape to help remove a wart on my daughter's finger.

I mix equal parts ammonia, ERA (liquid detergent), and water to make a killer spray for stains. Takes out almost everything.

I have a metal contraption that you hang pots from over the island in my kitchen. I use it to hang up decorations and lights year round-Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, Fourth of July, Halloween, Mardi Gras, and St. Patrick's Day.

Another trick I got from the Queen of clean show on TV. Mix a paste of
baing soda and bleach to clean the grout in the shower (tiled). No scrubbing is required, just paint it on. Just be careful of the fumes from the bleach-have the area well ventilated.

Our bed has posts up the corners as well as on top (going across the top). For many of our cotton clothes; I only put them in the dryer for a very short time.... then I take them out and hang them from our top bed posts (with hangers) and turn the ceiling fan on high to dry them. Sometimes there are so many clothes hanging from the bed that the bed looks like a closet. :teeth:

I have a lavender roll on stick that's supposed to be just for a scent, but it's great for taking the sting out of insect bites and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
Also this spray talc that's intended for your linens is great to prevent your feet from sweating/blistering.

oh and shea butter is awesome for stretch marks

Another use for toothpaste: it helps make scratched CDs play better :flower:

I wear "althletic" socks inside out, its smooth and VERRY comfy !

I use a juicebox case, the reg box you get when you buy them, for a trash bin for my van. I put a store bag inside to line it, and it fits right between the seat and the console. In reaching distance! I can change the bags often and box when needed. Keeps a neat van! and its all free !!!

tooth paste makes a good hand scrub to remove paint or caulk from your hands,, you can use dawn dish liquid mixed with salt as a salt scrub to clean those off too,

dawn mixed with vinegar makes great window cleaner, especially when dryed with old newspapers,

I use chapstick around my eyes to reduce wrinkles!

Dawn dish soap is the best flea shampoo ever. It's perfectly safe and kills every flea every time. Works better than the highest priced designer flea shampoo you can buy.

rub fresh garlic on bee stings.

I cant think of any others, but there are books available that list all kinds of these ideas.
this one and this one for starters
