has anyone booked a cat 7 room and get up graded? and where did you book the cruise? thank i would like to get an idea to see how much pixie dust i really need to get. thanks

While it may seem that there are a lot of upgrades given by reading these boards--they are actually few and far between.

There really isn't anything you can do to increase your chance at getting one.

I suggest booking the category in which you will be happy. Then if you do happen to get an upgrade that is just an added bonus.

Totally agree with Sue Ellen...why book a category you might no be totally happy with and wish for upgrade. If that upgrade does not happen (and chances are it won't) you would be very disappointed.

Book with what you know you will happy with. Some people get upgraded to a higher category but do not like the location of the new cabin so all upgrades are not wonderful.

It may seem like they happen a lot from what you see on the board. But if you think about it THOUSANDS of people sail each week with DCL and only a small handfull get an upgrade. Usually it is from a lower cabin than a seven. If you would be unhappy with a seven than I would not book it. We always book a six which is what I am happy in. I am well aware that Cat. 6's rarely if ever get upgraded and that is ok because I have what I want. I would never book like say a nine in hopes to be bumped up to my six because the chances are very very high that would not happen! I would spend the entire week bummed out and mad at myself for not booking what I wanted in the first place,

Ok, how about upgrading yourself for free..... sound good?

Just book cat 7 and pick room 7120 7620 6634 or 6134

the deck 6 rooms were cat 6, and the deck 7 rooms were cat 5 but due to some metal on the side of the otherwise open balcony they have been downgraded to cat 7.

thanks for the information. i have booked a cat 7 room 7628 and i was looking at the DCL website and noticed that there are few rooms showing for the next 7 day cruise but the 7 day after that is still showing lots of rooms. i was told when i booked my room with the castaway club that Nov/Dec cruises get more upgrades then most other cruises. they told me at the castaway club that if i do get a upgrade it would be to cat 3 or cat 4 cause cats 5,6,7 are now the most popular on there cruise line.:teeth: now the room i booked it the room we want but if we get an upgrade thats great but if we dont we still get the room we asked for. if we do get an upgrade i hope its a aft room cause i love how quite it is out back and so close to food LOL thanks:wave2: ::yes::

But do know that I have cruised each December (not Christmas week) for three years and have never been upgraded. We were cat. 5 once and 6 twice. My table mates each time were also cat. 6's and they were not upgraded. It would be great if you get one but please don't think because you are going in Nov. or Dec. and are in a popular cat. you have a better chance. Most upgrades I am aware of were from cat. 11. And I would think the chance of getting a many thousand $ upgrade to a cat. 3 is just about impossible. A cat. 3 for three people runs around $10,000, a cat. 7 for three people under 4,000.
That said though I do wish you luck, just don't be let down if it does not happen.

We were surprised at check in when we were told we had a "change in room assignment"...which turned out to be a Cat 4 upgrade from a Cat 6.

I'm hoping to do a trip report and will write more about it. It was very exciting, totally unexpected, and quite the way to kick off our trip!

Just back tonight - checking email and boards...and hopefully, after I dig out from work and laundry this week, will post reports on our trip. :)

On our last cruise, we were booked in a Cat 7. I checked the DCL website several weeks before our departure and saw a change in room number. Come to find out we were upgraded to a Cat 4. It was one way aft with the metal verandah.

We booked directly through Disney, but I don't think that really matters. I just appreciated the pixie dust that came our way on that trip.

Just remember, any cabin is a good cabin if you're on board the ship.

EXCELLENT!

I'm not sure that my memory is correct, but I believe that there are 875 rooms on each ship. Three sailings per week puts the total rooms available at 2625. From reading these boards I would guess that there is less than 100 rooms per week upgraded (If it was this high we would hear a LOT more about it). That's less than a 4% chance of being upgraded. And since we are talking about upgrades and not just room changes the odds of getting upgraded are even much less.

Book the room you will be happy with and IF you get upgraded, be happy, very happy:Pinkbounc :bounce:

We were upgraded on our October cruise from a cat 9 to an 8. Not as great as a cat 6 but still got us off the 2nd floor and in my view anything above the 2nd floor is great!

That's great! Glad it happened for you!

Some pixie dust must have fallen my way. I just called DCL to purchase a surprise for my DW and they told me that we were upgraded from 8 to a category 5. Great news!!!!!!!!!!!!
