This year several people were giving out what I thought was odd items..

My DS got a can of soda from 1 house, a can of arizona icetea and candy from another, a Hi-C juice box and a pack of gum from another...

Is this odd or do people by you do the same thing???

I never got drinks when I was a trick or treater

Maybe they were running out of candy? Sometimes you have to be creative. ;)

The idea of giving drinks out is not new here. I will say, it was great at first (the kids get thirsty), but man...when the idea becomes popular as it has here, the bags get really heavy, really fast!

Drink boxes were packaged for Halloween this year.

We got American flags at one house :teeth:

One year I ran out of candy and started giving out pennies. You would have thought I was handing out gold. The kids were all screaming....."Hey, come over here, this lady is giving away money!" Back then a penny was enough money for gum out of the machine.

Funny thing about drinks being handed out... my DD had a "Lil Hug" drink open up in her bag last year and the same thing happened to her friend this year. It makes quite a mess. (Lil Hugs are plastic containers with a foil lid) I wish people would give out drinks in containers that cannot open easily (drink boxes and cans seem the safest).

hey all,
one year was i was a kid this lady that lived on my block owned a candy/choclate store in manhattan.she made homemade treat's in her house and gave out the best stuff.one year was fudge and i remember another was triple choclate brownies.she had the most popular trick or treating stop on the block.sadly she retired and moved to florida.

Oh, and along the line of the thread...my kids have received pencils, erasers and small toys. They really liked finding these little treasures.

They also used to get alot of the McDonalds certificates (free ice cream cone, etc), but I haven't seen too many of those lately.

the above are popular here, too.
I used to fill little Halloween design cello bags with Halloween themed erasers, pencils, temporary tatoos, a McD's, cert (just one a piece), a glow necklace & penny candy. Lots of fun to make & lots of fun to see the faces light up. :sunny:
DH insists we give out full size candy bars, now.
A very sweet couple used to give out the full sizes in his neighborhood & he gets very nostalgic & gives him a good feeling to be able to do it. good thing we get them at decent prices! :cheer2:

Hoping yr Halloween was a Happy & Safe one!
Jean

My kids would love you, bless your heart!

Btw, I remember the people who gave out full candy bars too. Maybe someday, when I don't have a gazillion kids coming each year.

Giving six packs of beer and fried eggs is common for most parental units. I'm from France.

Well, when we got home the girls went to check their candy and they found a couple of those little packs of soy sauce.
WEIRD!!

one year I ran out of candy and before I had a chance to turn off the lights a huge group of kids came down my driveway (which is long). I felt guilty so I ran in the kitchen and came back with sodas, pudding cups, and little bags of potatoe chips. The next day everyone at my daughters school was talking about their 'stash' over lunch. Interestingly enough a large group had soda, pudding cups, and potatoe chips for lunch. LOL

Yikes!
Better check their bags again, make sure there's no raw fish & rice! :goodvibes

Soy Sauce? Okay, that's gotta be one of the weirdest Halloween Treats ever!

I did checked! :rotfl: They did know where they got them. :confused3

My grandson got a drink box this year. He also got a life-size, life like plastic mouse. Well, it looked real from a distance. He dumped out his candy and it ended up off near the side. I spotted it and started freaking--I am terrified of mouse. My kids were all laughing and saying, "It's o.k. Mom, it's not real." My grandson dissolved into a fit of giggles, which I think is the best sound in the world--so it was worth the embarrassment.

At least it wasn't a rock.

My daughter got a gift certificate from Mary Kay, a glue stick, and she also got a few dollars, I guess some people ran out of candy and were giving out dollar bills.

This year besides a few pencils and granola bars and one Push up from a friend
they got mostly candy

Last year however they got Army packs of Jelly
even said ARMY right on them

that was the strangest thing :confused3

DD6 was thrilled with the teeny container of play-dough one of our neighbors gave her. I'm going to get some of those for next year!

We got a juice pack from one neighbor, too.

The strangest thing in my DD's bag was a pack of Kool-aid, she also got some full size candy bars. I am always amazed when she gets those. :)
