Odd question: temps at FW?

Okay, maybe not a question about temperature per se, more about comfort :)

We're planning on finally making a visit to FW (dreaming of our hopefully RV future), and DH and I started thinking about the most comfy time of day to walk around. That ended up in a discussion about how you may think shade is good, but look at AK, which ends up feeling like an oven due to the way the paths are closed in. So we're curious: do all the trees at FW make the grounds feel cooler than the average resort, OR do all the trees block the breeze making it feel more stiffling?

This time of year, everything in Florida is just HOT!!! The only time you may feel cool is when it rains or just after.

Animal Kingdom is like 10 degrees hotter than the rest of WDW. We stay away from there in the summer. :cool2:

As far as trees go, in FW, finding one to put your chair under is a good idea. Another good idea this year is a screen room, especially if you are in loops 1600-1900 or close to the old petting zoo/barn by the marina. The yellow flies are bad this year. (even if TCD says he killed the one he saw...he never stopped to see my ankles or Lornaducks' legs!) We had a screen room and it helped immensely with the bugs and the heat. We put our fans in the screen room and it worked out great.

On the whole, starbuc is correct that the whole state is HOT!, however, FW is not AK, and it is much better to walk around in the morning and evening at FW.

I am still a big fan of the full hook up loops, even with the yellow fly problem. I know that it can be controlled, people just need to complain enough. Trust me, I, and several others, are about to put our ten dollars worth in.:surfweb:

Depending on what loop you're in - some have more shade than others - I think it is very plesant at FW in the summer. I did not say cool, but there is shade, green grass and water which makes it seem cooler and one of my favorite things to do on a hot afternoon is sit under our RV awning and recline my chair and take a nap. I think FW is the coolest place you can find at WDW in the summer.

The vegetation at AK is nothing like the vegetation at FW. At AK, they've got all this stuff packed together and lower to the ground - almost to the point of being walls of plants. At FW, you've got a lot of the tall pine trees which sort of filter the sun, and allow all the breezes through. There are still some spots that are hotter than others, but it's pretty easy to find a spot that's comfortable.

I am serious when I tell you this,,but you did mention walking around at a good time.
I think the best time of day is 4:AM-6:AM it is absolutely beautiful at the Fort that time of the mornings ! And it's nice and cool too ! The sun rise is super to watch. And a lotta the critters are out gettn breakfast,,(take a camera)

After 6:AM, it starts warming up real fast.

I'm going to do that next time. It's something that I wouldn't have thought of, thanks.

Growing up in Florida, I can stand the heat and humidity. That being said, I do what I can to avoid being soaked in sweat. As Frank said, early morning is nice, I also like 8-9pm. The sun is setting and while it is still warm, its tolerable. As others have mentioned, the tree cover at the fort is great, and something else that really helps is the fact that there is less concrete and asphalt at the campgrounds than any other guest areas at WDW. Best place to be around sunset is out by Bay Lake, not only is it pretty, but a nice breeze comes off the lake, which really helps! Stay cool!

Great answers, thanks so much!

We'll be there next mid-May, so thankfully no summer heat (well, one hopes, though I heard this last May was brutal).

Which gives me thoughts about another question. We were also going back and forth on maybe adding the Segway tour at FW if we're going to be exploring the area anyway. That time of year is there a huge difference, comfort wise, between the 8:30-10:30 am tour and the 11:30-1:30 am tour? I mean, I certainly know the later one will be hotter, but with the description of the shading, I wonder if it will be marginally different or A LOT different.

Thanks!

I so wish I had known about AK before we went...that's where my dad had a heat stroke over Memorial Day! HOT isn't the word for it!

I've been to WDW 3 times...once in mid-November, Mid-February, and this past time, Late May-Early June.

I'd go in October or November anytime! It was the best trip we had!

I am fond of the early morning walk also. I usually walk the path to WL & if you are the first one down that path in the morning, don't be surprised when a deer jumps up from the brush beside you.
