Hello, everyone!

Is there anyone from Florida on here or those who go frequently enough to give some tips on preparing for October weather and crowds in WDW (Orlando)?

I tried looking on some of the "crowd calenders" on line, but they seem to be inconsistent about what to expect during the first couple of weeks of October. I'd like to know if the water rides would be out of the question, what kind of clothes to wear, and what the lines are like.

Thanks so much!

I've only been there once in October and it was my favourite. The weather was perfect... not too hot but not cool either. We wore shorts everyday. The crowd levels when we went were fair.. not low but definately not as high as July.

We always go in October! The weather is absolutely perfect! We wear shorts every day...bring a sweater for the evening and maybe a pair of light pants in case you do run into a cooler day. Crowds are great, too. It's my favourite time of year!

I've been several times in October, at varying weeks throughout the month. Here's my feedback:

The weather can be unpredictible. It can be warm and pleasant (upper 70s to low 80s, somewhat humid). It can very very hot and humid (low to upper 80s and quite humid). It can be unbearably hot and humid (one trip we had low to mid 90s every day, with very high humidity). It can also rain, either a little or a lot. I was there during Hurricane Wilma in 2005! So be prepared that the weather can be great, or it can be super-hot. No way to know!

Regarding the crowds, they're pretty low in October! That's what makes it one of my favorite times to go. Plus you get the Food and Wine Festival, and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, which are both very fun.

So I definitely recommend October, but be prepared that it might be really hot!

Definitely agree here. In Oct '09, we went over Columbus week. It was extremely hot & humid...felt more like July weather..didn't rain and the crowds were moderate to high. Last year, we went the 3rd week in October & the weather was wonderful..low 80's and very low humidity...rained on our last full day but it didn't last all day. Crowds were low to moderate...wouldn't hesitate to go that week again...we loved it!

Thanks, everyone, for your EXCELLENT responses! :thumbsup2

We will prepare for the moderate crowds and warm (hot) weather. I am actually glad that the temperatures will still be hot because I would really like a chance to get on Splash Mountain again (you don't get soaking wet, but it just doesn't seem as fun when it's cool outside)!

You guys ROCK! Thank you for responding so quickly! :thumbsup2

We went Oct 2005, Columbus week, and it was like this. NO sweaters needed, and I'm always cold if it's even a little chilly out.

:) We were there for Halloween in '09, hot as H***. We were there the same week last year, weather a couple of degrees cooler but still wore shorts. Will go again this year 10/26-11/2 and wear shorts, capris, tees and maybe a costume or two.:thumbsup2

jumping on this thread! going 23-31 and hoping for great weather and crowd:goodvibes!

Thanks for your responses! According to AccuWeather, it looks like it will be in the mid-80s...PERFECT weather! My solemn wish is that this will be true!! pixiedust:

Don't forget to factor in the humidity with those mid 80 temps. :scared1:

Yep. Even though it is low-mid 80's, it's the humidity that will kill you. :crazy2: I'm in Texas and it has been in the 80's for the last couple of days and it's still very hot out.

We went the last week of October 2011 and the weather was beautiful. I wore long pants every day, I was pregnant and did not even own shorts, and I was comfortable. I recall breaking out a sweatshirt at night a few times.

The crowds weren't too bad but we are used to going in the slow season (January). The crowds in Epcot on the weekend were pretty bad (food & wine festival) and MK was crowded on MNSSHP days

we lay a pair of jeans in the bottome of suitcase and a jacket and if it gets cooler than that we buy a new sweat shirt for under the jacket

We have spent a total of six weeks at WDW in October.

In general, the weather is beautiful . . . warm but not smoking hot. Shorts weather.

Just to warn you, though . . . we were there the last week in October in 2008. A bizarre cold snap blew through, and we had no inclination of it until we climbed into our rented minivan one morning (in shorts and t-shirts, of course) . . . and saw that the thermometer registered around 52 degrees (at roughly 8 in the morning).

We went to the MK that day and were among the hundreds of people crowding the Main Street gift shops, buying sweat shirts and jackets. It was really unpleasantly cold for the next 2-3 days.

We next went in October 2010, and this time we were prepared with jeans, sweat shirts, and jackets. Ha, we were ready for the cold snap this time! And on the same exact day in October (my daughter's birthday, in fact), Orlando hit record highs in the mid 90's. It was sweltering! :rotfl2:

So . . . there is a VERY high probability that most days will be in the 80's and quite lovely. But don't be completely caught off guard if you get an early cold snap, or even a very late heat wave.

Have a great trip.
