Just when I thought I was done planning, Disney extended some of the October park hours at the MK. We initially were not planning to go to the MK on our first night due to an afternoon arrival, but now the hours have been extended from 10 PM until 12 AM. I was able to change our Epcot FP for the evening, and even managed to get a late FP for SDMT.

The new schedule will work better for us, but I am afraid these longer hours indicate Disney expects even bigger crowds.

I saw that. We had planned to go to Blizzard Beach on Saturday the 24th because that was supposed to be the last day it was open before it went down for refurb. I just noticed today they changed it to Oct 4th so no Blizzard Beach for us this trip. I always did prefer Typhoon Lagoon anyway so we will just go there twice which isn't all bad but I'm still a bit bummed.

I can't get the disney site to load hours, it says they are unavailable, where did you see the changes?

Looks like they've extended Animal Kingdom hours for our visit as well. That could change our ADR plans.....we had Tusker House for 6:00 which was when the park closed. Now that cuts into two hours of park time since the park now doesn't close until 8.

Interestingly, they're now opening MK at 8 instead of 9 on Saturday the 10th. That's new. Does that mean they'll add another earlier hour of breakfast ADR's? And any idea of when they'll do that?

Guess I need to get with sister and niece and see if this affects any of our plans.

I'm so glad the MK is open till 11pm on one of our stays. I won't feel so bad about sleeping in. ;)

No. I'm pretty sure breakfast will still start at 8am.

The weekend of Saturday October 10th is the start of Columbus Day weekend. Many public schools in the Northeast have a long weekend (Monday off), and many colleges schedule this as a semester break (Monday and Tuesday off). We have been to WDW the past 3 Columbus Day weekends (2012, 2013, 2014) and EVERY year, Disney has shifted the park hours pretty much at the last minute (a month in advance... even though guests make ADRs at 180 days and FP+ at 60 days). It's pretty busy, but not crazy-busy like mid-August.

I think this is business as usual at WDW, and would guess that the crowd calendars should be reasonably accurate, if they are based on last year's attendance at this time.

Thank you for the heads up. I checked for our dates and some of the park times have changed for us as well. I am now considering going to MK on our arrival day because it is open until 1am, we originally planned on not doing a park that day but just relax by the pool and then head to DTD for our dinner at Fulton's. I may move up our dinner time to a bit earlier and then head over to MK for the evening...not sure what to do, I think there will be a family meeting today regarding this :goodvibes.

I'm hoping that with the extended hours on the 10th in MK, people who were planning to go to HS that day will go to MK instead! There are EMH at HS that day so it is predicted to be really crowded, but it's the only day we could get our group of 13 there for the Fantasmic package :)

I all but came unglued when I saw they changed park hours in October. Thankfully, the day I planned to be at MK for a 9 am opening hasn't changed to 8 am. Whew!

Seems that October changes may have opened up a bunch of FP+. I see many days in October with availability now for A&E, 7DMT, MSEP to name a few. Have at 'em folks.
