October Crowds

Good to know that this will basically impact on-site room reservations more than it will impact crowd level. I have been wondering about this convention for awhile because our trip overlaps with it! Thanks!
same here! big thanks guys for all the information!

Okay, ;) ;) we'll go with that, they're "forgetful".

It's not rocket science to add the weather app or check on the 10 day forecast prior to packing :sad2:
Another idea is they can't help it. My DS (spectrum and sensory issues) takes close to a month to switch from long sleeve/pants to short sleeve/ shorts and then back again every season change. There's no way to switch him for a few days back and forth due to weather. :sad2: It's frustrating but he used to freak out that his clothes were attacking him so we let him wear what he's going to wear. He's still sweating it out in jeans right now and we're in the 90s. I would melt but he so far is fine. Just another perspective.:)

That's what I'm worried about as we are going end of September beginning of October. We have some dinner ADR's at DHS and with TSL having only been open a few months what happens if they reach capacity and you have dinner ADRs? Do they leave some availability in the numbers for those with reservations, so if they are 100 from reaching capacity they shut down to allow the 100 with reservations in?

I can't image TSL causing HS to reach capacity. It looks like a nice area but I know I am not planning any extra time there at all. I also don't have any kids going on my trip either.

So this is my first time at WDW and I was planning my rope drop attractions for 24th oct as I'm attending NSSMHP 25th oct. After reading your comments I've changed my plan to rope drop on the date of the party and doing only FP attractions on 24th. There won't be party that date and also there are EMH pm so I will return to the park for the HEA dessert party and stay late till closing. How does this plan sound to you? Thanks for all this valuable information!! :)

I am still reeling over the size of the crowds that we experienced in October 2016 and September 2017, but to be fair, we were impacted by hurricanes both trips. Apparently, we have impeccable timing.

It will be a few years, at least, that I will be going that time of year again. Shame because it used to be our favorite time of year with the Food & Wine Festival. But between the Halloween parties and the threat of hurricanes, I’ll be sticking to the Flower & Garden Festival time of year for a while.

Check and see when the Orlando schools have their fall break

Not really a break like they have in the northern states but some days off about mid October

I’m actually planning around that for my kids school. It’s usually the Monday and Tuesday of Columbus Day and they changed it this year. I checked Florida schools and it looks like there’s is the 22-23. Hopefully we’ll be ok. Thanks for the tip!

I am really glad I am going with a relaxed trip this time and not worrying about crowds and stuff since I was just there last December. If its too hot for us we will go relax in the pool or the room. If its to crowded we will try to do things we never have done before like seeing hotels we have never seen. It seems that every day is a busy day now but I keep hoping that at some point people will start to save there money for Star Wars stuff opening and there will be a little break but doesn't seem that way at all.

Wait Florida has a break on October 22-23?

We have traditionally been going in early Dec for the past 14 years, we did do Oct back in 2007, and have done may and june respectively each once as well. This year my university daughter is on reading week right after Columbus day and is begging to do the Halloween party for a change. I am looking forward to doing the F&W again since we got rained on all day back in 2007. I am very nervous about the crowds, and the hurricane threats! We are booked Oct 8-14th. I have been trying to find availability at the Poly (our first choice) since I booked at the Contemporary since april with no luck. I am preparing for crazy heavy crowds. I am still second guessing this choice!

I will be there Oct 8th to Oct 18th with a break Oct 11th to Oct 14th on a cruise. Oct 14th we are staying at Poly. We know it might be crowded but we will just do what we can and enjoy everything we can do. Just have a plan and don't stress over what you can't control. Have a great time.

I agree. And from my understanding as it was pounded on me by an uncool fellow DISer a few years back, it's not all of FL. Just certain school districts and private schools within that district that will be off.

Yeah but its always going to be busy and its only going to get worse going forward. Just enjoy your vacation is what I say. Once it gets to the point of you not enjoying it anymore means you should find a new destination.
