October Brides 2008 or 2009

I'm 05 November this year. Do i count? I haven't seen many November brides. 05 November is bonfire night for us UK brides

O'course you count! Welcome!! :flower3:

What's bonfire night if you don't mind me asking - sounds fun!

Bonfire night is when we have loads of fireworks, and bonfires - like loads of wood and stuff on fire!! i think your supposed to have a man on top - a guy and sparkelers, like little firework sticks you can hold. it came from a plot ages ago by Guy Falwkes to blow up parliment using gun powder. its quite fun - not for pets though!! x x

Alissa, I wasn't freaking out until I saw you were 60 days out! That means I am too! Well now I think it is a few days less.

Remember remember the fifth of November the gun powder treason and plot! I see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot!!

On the 5th November 1605 Guy Fawkes was caught in the cellars of the Houses of Parliament with several dozen barrels of gunpowder. Guy Fawkes was subsequently tried as a traitor with his co-conspirators for plotting against the government. He was tried by Judge Popham who came to London specifically for the trial from his country manor Littlecote House in Hungerford, Gloucestershire. Fawkes was sentenced to death and the form of the execution was one of the most horrendous ever practised (hung ,drawn and quartered) which reflected the serious nature of the crime of treason.

The following year in 1606 it became an annual custom for the King and Parliament to commission a sermon to commemorate the event. Lancelot Andrewes delivered the first of many Gunpowder Plot Sermons. This practice, together with the nursery rhyme, ensured that this crime would never be forgotten! Hence the words " Remember , remember the 5th of November" The poem is sometimes referred to as 'Please to remember the fifth of November'. It serves as a warning to each new generation that treason will never be forgotten. In England the 5th of November is still commemorated each year with fireworks and bonfires culminating with the burning of effigies of Guy Fawkes (the guy). The 'guys' are made by children by filling old clothes with crumpled newspapers to look like a man. Tradition allows British children to display their 'guys' to passers-by and asking for " A penny for the guy".

Sure AWholeNewWorld, you can count!! :cool1: And actually - I think I might crash your wedding!! We'll be there til Nov 9th!

The antibride - when are you?

I can't believe I am five weeks from getting married! I still have to choose a cake flavor and meet with my DJ all while working two jobs and coaching high school field hockey! I think getting married in field hockey season was a bad idea! How funny that I'll be Coach Smith for the season and Coach Jones for the post season!

I thiink Alissa got the whole Bonfire Night. In the UK it's abit like a night a Disney but not quite as good. We have fireworks and sparklers (little sticks that you light and they sparkle). It's usually extremely cold on bonfire night. :thumbsup2

How are you gals doing your marriage licenses? I'm torn between mail order from the people DFTW recommends or just going to the courthouse - it's a difference of $90. And we'd have to go the day before our ceremony because its the only time.

I didn't know that you could mail order it....

We're going to the courthouse. We have 3 days to play with before the wedding so I am not that worried. I also read that the process was easy so hopefully it will be!

We are doing our marriage license through mail with Brevard County...but I have to send it back, they listed Mike's residency in WI, we live in MI, they got mine right, and we live at the same address, you'd think they would have realized that....oh well
